Dark Souls is great, it just happens to be in an extremely tired setting genre plus there's the second half. It's still a 10/10 for me but I consider Bloodborne even better.

Nier is so painfully average, I'm surprised you didn't list Dragon's Dogma too.

Nier's gameplay is too lame to be in the best and HK was good but I still wouldn't rank it up there.

Hollow Knight is actually an expanded flash game by Team Cherry.
I remember reading it a long time ago, but they had a flash game where you played as a cat with pretty similar gameplay or something.

Dark Souls, Dishonored, Prey for me

I never found Nier Automata to be that good. The enemy design was largely boring, the story was vague and largely ended up with lots of questions that will never be answered, and the combat itself is largely underutilized (you can use lots of different moves, but few things pose enough of a challenge to do so on most difficulty levels), pause healing especially gimps the game pretty hard. The music and ass were great though.

bloodborne was forgettable, hollow knight has a pretty decent art collection, nier had a cool intro, the rest i found pretty dull, wouldnt even put it my top 20

Agree with Bloodborne and Hollowknight.

Disagree with Nier:Automata though, the way how they executed the story concerning the truth about humans was cheap. It would have been more impactful if you actually went to the moon yourself. That way the futility of the entire situation would have had more weight to it.

Great twist on the souls formula and some incredible boss design, sound design and aesthetics. Ultimately just a better designed and more polished game than Dark Souls. Agreed.

Both are nearly unparalleled at what they're trying to accomplish

The infinite healing on pause was the combat's biggest flaw since it made balancing impossible, which is a shame. It could've been great otherwise, I liked the movement alot and dodging projectiles etc. I still liked the game enough to complete it though

Not him, but the original Nier is kind of awful. And it's pretty valid to expect a game to stand on its own.
