If it was made to recognize an analogue stick, would it be the definitive version?

Yes, of course. It's the controls that kill it.

For me yeah but probably not for everyone. The extra content wouldn't be worth the extra tedium of having to switch characters to complete certain stars for some people I imagine.

Why is Mario 64 not on switch in any capacity? I want to replay it but not on my pc

>can play on my comfy wiiu tablet in bed
jealous switch faggot?

the pointless need to switch characters wasn't that interesting. the best part about it was the minigames

Assuming it plays identically to the 64 version then yes it would be.

its fucking ugly. i'd take 64 low poly models over this blurry abortion any day.

The audio would still be bitcrushed to hell.

the character swap gimmick was just shit

That rumored Mario mega compilation for the 35th anniversary might have this DS version and with the proper analog controls.

If there was a rerelease that got rid of the extra characters, then yes. Adding extra characters seems like it's more content but all that fucking did was force you to go switch to a different character if you wanted a different hat.

I never thought it was that much of an issue since you could just play as Yoshi and select any hat you want before starting the stage or find the hats in the stages

It'd be a shame if the rumored remaster left out the additional characters the DS version has. I always thought this game was an interesting piece of history to put in Wario's portfolio. Is this the only game where he and Mario team up (beyond something like Yoshi's Island DS)?

none of you play it on 3DS? Works great

Yes

its crap
the art is crap
the charatcers all all NSMB fags
switching between 4 gimped characters instead of just playing as Mario is shit
they even removed the faces from whomps fortress

Then what's even the point of having different characters? If they're going to insist on having multiple characters at least get rid of the stupid shit where you need to unlock Mario in Super MARIO 64

it's less that it wasn't interesting and more that wario and to a lesser extent luigi were kinda useless apart from a handful of specific instances, and it was easier to play as yoshi for the hat selection and just not get hit
easily remedied by upscaling and running on a screen that isn't SNES-sized
the DS has a similar sound chip to the GBA in that the music/sound files played are of a higher quality than they sound when they play through the speakers. check out the mother 3 uncompressed soundtrack, you might be surprised at how good GBA/DS audio can sound
could you elaborate on this a bit? like is the analog control as smooth as the n64's?

this game emulates really well btw, there's a controller patch you can apply to play with proper analog control

autism

I genuinely wonder how the fuck did Miyamoto allow Wario to be in this game, was he just sleeping during the development or some shit?

Doesn't even matter because if the rumors are true and this game is getting remastered again, those redesigns on the far left are still going to be carried over.

They should definitely leave it in. Swapping characters was never an issue since the player is given the option to wear a hat on the stage selection screen (the only times you're required to switch to Yoshi are on the ice levels for 1 star each). Removing the extra characters would ruin this version for me.

I would love it if they built on the multiplayer mode, if they remake this game that is. The only reason we even have those extra characters is due to a multiplayer campaign mode they weren't able to properly implement. We ended up with the vs. mode as a sort of compensation for the time wasted.

It still uses a run button though

What do you mean?

I liked it but can't remember too well, this guy demonstrates how it performs

yout.ube.com/watch?v=TaI7wO4CxLY

it was a different time

Yeah I always did find that odd, maybe they would change it in a rerelease

So are we expecting anoter 64 remake?

>none of you play it on 3DS? Works great
This is such a meme at this point. There's no way this is a serious question. For those who are wondering the 3ds does not fix the controls whatsoever.

There's rumors pointing towards several 3D Mario rereleases for Switch to commemorate Mario's 35th anniversary.

Maybe

If they do co-op, I think we can say goodbye to Wario and hello to blue and yellow toads again. I dunno what their fucking problem with the Wa-boys is, but they always just use toads now.

>The only reason we even have those extra characters is due to a multiplayer campaign mode they weren't able to properly implement.
He was the best character choice for a 3rd player with Yoshi being implemented for the hat gimmick.

he meant that miyamoto has severe autism when it comes to anything not in the bland modern nsmb style

I genuinely wonder what was even the problem with the multiplayer campaign, the e3 demo seemed to work nicely

It already is the definitive version, better than the original in every conceivable way and you will never convince me otherwise. Controls, graphics, multiple characters, it's all better than the original. :^)

Yes.
The perfect version would still be the original designs with the extra characters + new multiplayer.

literally soul/soulless

The issue was that it wasn't fun/ didn't meet their standards. They've been trying to incorporate multiplayer into every 3d Mario game, but weren't satisfied until 3dWorld gave them the results they wanted.
>There was enough leftover code in Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 for modders to gain access to a buggy split-screen multiplayer mode only a few years after the games release

Only reason it really works in 3D Land/World is because those games take level structure cues from 2D platformers and Crash Bandicoot's effort at making the transition of 2D platforming into 3D space.
The obvious benefit is that you don't have to worry about splitting the screen, just keep everyone on the same screen since there's no need to worry about a free-roaming camera like in Mario 64 and other 3D titles. Only way you can realistically make a multiplayer with free-roam camera work is if everyone had their own screens to look at, which was definitely doable for Super Mario 64 DS, the implementation was just shite enough for them to tap out. All we're left with is speculation on stuff from the cutting room floor.

Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll create a new campaign just for a Switch version. It's not going to happen, but I can dream.

>wii u
No

>the DS has a similar sound chip to the GBA in that the music/sound files played are of a higher quality than they sound when they play through the speakers. check out the mother 3 uncompressed soundtrack, you might be surprised at how good GBA/DS audio can sound
That's not how good GBA/DS audio can sound, that's how good the samples can sound when played back on a PC with a sampler that isn't trash. The GBA/DS didn't really have a soundchip like older consoles (it's just two 8-bit 32.7khz dacs) so audio mixing, audio effects, and resampling were all done in software. Since the GBA/DS had dogshit CPUs, games had to use fast but low quality audio processing techniques and were often mixed at an even lower than native sample rate (which again had to be resampled using low quality routines). You'd need to rewrite the game's audio system to fix that, and even then the GBA/DS's native bit depth and sample rate would be lower than the N64's.

It needs some reworking, but otherwise yes. If they took another crack at SM64 I'd keep the multiple characters, maybe add an option that lets you swap characters each time you entered a painting, let non Mario characters be able to do more shit like wall jump, make the levels more vibrant and less washed out, bring back the old scuttlebug design, add more courses and stars in general, and complement the old rumors and add an unlockable Waluigi BUT give him ridiculous bullshit requirements to get him and dont even hint that hes in the game until you get him. ALSO bring in that 4 player mode that was in the beta of the DS version. That would be fun

Eh, if they were going to update Mario 64 I'd rather them do a full on remake rather than a port of a tech demo

>If it was made to recognize an analogue stick, would it be the definitive version?
Yes it would be.

>Look this up
>It's fetish shit

I hate TF fags so much

>uncompressed
Yeah, ANYTHING will sound better uncompressed. But in the actual game, it still doesn't sound a whole lot better with headphones.

>replaces interesting marbled-blocks with generic brown bricks
I hate soulfags so fucking much.

>Fetish shit
What? There's even remotely sexual about this. It's just a status effect in Mario RPG.

>There's even
*There's nothing even

Rebalance the characters a bit too, then it'd be great.
As it stands Luigi is the go-to for anything that doesn't require another character. Playing Mario (or heaven forbid, Wario) when you could be playing Luigi feels like you're gimping yourself.

I would prefer if characters weren't required for anything and that all of them had access to the ? powerups (invis cap, metal cap, wing cap, etc), and walljump with their unique quirks primarily existing to have them offer a unique experience through the game. If someone wants to 400% the game to completion, godspeed to them.
General balance goes without saying, though.

It really does. The only reason to ever play as Wario is for the fun of it. Yeah, he has unique interactions, but certainly not enough to warrant playing. His swim speed it awful too. I don't even think the guy can make it inside of the ship without drowning. I still play as him though.

Luigi is broken, Wario is useless, and Yoshi can't do like half the stars.

Super mario allstars 3D is rumored for Mario's anniversary. Galaxy 1 2 and sunshine. Mario 64 is being remade on the Odessy engine

Honestly nintendo is fucking up by not letting us play every single game in thier back log on the switch. It's the perfect console for it

Who do you play as the most in SM64DS? Mario has always been my go-to guy, despite how broken Luigi is

I've only played SM64DS one time does it run well on emulators? Wouldn't mind giving it a go again

For me it was Luigi purely because I wanted to savor his first appearance in a 3D Mario game.

wario despite being so clunky and unlockable so late in the game

>the switch is perfect for x
go back to r*ddit, faggot

Wario. It's fucking WARIO!

Yoshi. I just use the caps to complete most of the missions that Yoshi can't do himself.

It would be a good version.
I'd still hate that certain powerups are locked to certain characters. I like the idea of multiple playable characters in a video game, but I do not care for the idea of them being forced to switch to them.

How would the switch not be the perfect console for their backlog. Try explaining yourself without using buzzwords this time

did luigi's leg waggle in the air move actually do anything, i always thought it slowed your fall speed but only by like 1%
