You are using quarantine as an excuse to try some underappreciated jrpgs, right?
Sunday jrpg thread
>You are using quarantine as an excuse to try some underappreciated jrpgs, right?
well yeah, though since I'm a NEET the quarantine doesn't really change things.
Unlimited saga is shit though
And yes i'm playing some unstranslated psx jrpg's
This is on my 3DS ready to play, but I'm too depressed to play anything.
what's
No, I still have to go to work
I also bought Unlimited Saga full price on release day.
I made a thread asking for recommendations the other day and started playing Radiant Historia, only a couple hours in so far but it's been pretty fun, the combat's great too
phone bad
been enjoying ffx lately. I just beat seymour 3, it was tough I burned alot of my best items. I hope I'm not playing wrong
I also started Ys 1 on my phone, and I don't get the bumper cars gameplay. when does the series move on from that if ever?
Nah, Seymour 3 is pretty tough
However, there's 1 more tougher fight awaiting you
i only play JRPGs with cute lolis. What are some JRPGs with cute lolis?
I still have work, but I really want to play the fan translated Sakura Wars 1 on saturn
Fortune Summoners
Touhou Soujinengi
Yurikago no Sora
Towelket
Which ones?
That thread a few days ago with an user playing Unlimited kinda makes me want to play some SaGa. I'll probably go with Frontier though.
Playing Pokemon Pearl now though. I was playing through Platinum, but I really don't see why everybody heralds it as one of the best games, so I'm gonna play through Pearl and then start Platinum fresh to see what changed and maybe I can appreciate it better.
Saga frontier 1 and 2 are both really solid games and 2 in particular is possibly the 2nd prettiest game on the PS1.
After finding out about FF7R I decided I'm probably not gonna play it. Im checked out on Nomura nonsense after KH3.
Whats a good JRPG when it comes to writing and characters?
Playing Robopon 1, it's got some really sick monster designs, not a bad game at all.
This is how you do JRPG slow burn right. Everything coming together feels so kino.
I still would've been willing to check it out for the changes made if not for literal retcon ghost cops magically whisking characters away from deviation in the most ridiculous ways. But that's not what this thread is about so let's move on.
Puzzle and Dragons X, Monster Hunter Stories and Puyo Puyo Chronicle
Tales of Graces, Xillia, Abyss
Etrian Odyssey
Mary Skelter
Dungeon Travelers 2
Atelier
Yeah that was a step too far for me. Anyway any recommendations?
Here are some of my faves.
>TWEWY
>Radiant Historia
>DQ5
>Chrono Trigger
>Persona 2
>NieR
>NieR Automata
>FF Tactics
>Devil Survivor
Time travel shenanigans being introduced to VII are making want to give the Chrono games another spin. Might even finally get around to playing the DS remake of SaGa 3, see what changes it made to the original.
End Roll
I was really enjoying the DS port of Chrono but my autism made me forget about it and get distracted with other games. Same with TWEWY actually. Might have to go back and finish them up. Thanks user!
Have fun, man. There’s a lot of meat to both of those games.
Just finished my DaS trilogy run through and I am ready for a nice jrpg. What should I play first out of
FFXII The Zodiac age
YS VIII
Octopath traveler
KH3
FFXII
Avoid starting with either Riki or Lute, play literally anyone else first.
Make sure to pay attention to the narrative too, as a lot of things are explained throughout all of the campaigns, sometimes a certain campaign might even have additional story stuff for another MC's campaign, or interesting alternative events.
FFXII
as a previous huge KHfag I wouldnt bother with 3 unless you just wanna be bored out of your mind for 20 hours, and then have your intelligence insulted for 3
Cool. From the way people talked about SaGa, I pictured something like Live A Live, with a bunch of stories intertwined, or the same story told from multiple characters' perspectives, but so far I haven't seen that. Scarlet Grace was the closest so far. I hear Frontier 2 is more story driven?
As for characters to start with, I'll probably forget this advice by the time I get around to it. I'm just gonna play whoever looks the coolest.
I'm playing 引き裂かれたバダール, game 2 of the Dogma series, known for being so depressing that if you play them while suicidal it may push you over the edge. So far it's pretty interesting, though it hasn't really gotten into true feelsbad territory yet.
Underappreciated? Dunno about Ys VIII which I've decided to play through again.
Don't know why I did that since I have a backlog that I'm trying to get through, too. But I was just in the mood for it.
>I also started Ys 1 on my phone, and I don't get the bumper cars gameplay. when does the series move on from that if ever?
Only Ys I and II use it (and I guess Dawn of Ys, but Memories of Celceta is now considered canon as far as Ys IV is concerned).
a VIPRPG? Well I might take a look. The bleakest and cruelest game I have ever played was タオルケットをもう一度~Fury~
Play Knights in the Nightmare.
Ys VIII is kinda a fun summer holiday sort of game, good if you're looking for a break away from grim dark stuff
I'm glad there's someone as dedicated as you to the game. As much as I love it, I never did get the true ending.
I still have to work. But I just got Trails of Cold Steel I and II. III is on the way. And then Friday I should get FFVII Remake. Hopefully. I've had it pre-ordered from Best Buy for a month now.
Already did and wasn't a fan.
Wow, a man of taste.
Yeah, it's VIP, though it's more of a 喪男 culture thing at the start. The games in the series are:
ドグマの箱庭
引き裂かれたバダール
ポイズン・セレクション
アリスの標本箱
アリシアのパンセ
ゾーエーの共鳴箱
シューニャの空箱
combined in this pack if you want to skip by it mediafire.com
They're somewhat similar to the Towelket series in a way. Also, as a warning, the first game is easily the most amateurish. There's a big quality jump from game 1 to 2.
>I pictured something like Live A Live, with a bunch of stories intertwined, or the same story told from multiple characters' perspectives
No, that's not what SaGa does at all, so do not ever look for that, no game in the series is like LaL.
Basically, all the MCs have their own stories and each campaign is a "what if" scenario rather than a part of whole, outside of the games with no multiple MCs of course, there is also no real "canon" timeline of events, only many different possibilities.
That doesn't mean there isn't a bigger whole of course, but that's the general world narrative, and it's kept separated from a main character's own story, which is used to alter this general world narrative and create different versions of common events or new events altogether.
So whereas in games like LaL or Octopath you get one part of a whole, in SaGa you get one possible part of a whole, as in your decisions as a player and/or the character you play as shape the general world and allow you to see not only a part of it, but how could the world change through the actions of a certain main character, which have both restrictions and extras.
Asellus for instance is the only MC that has access to Chateau Aiguille and several Mystic characters that straight up do not appear in other MCs' stories, on the other hand, Red is completely absent in her scenario, so when you'll play as Red and encounter Asellus you'll get extra story bits for both characters that you wouldn't get while playing as Asellus, Asellus herself also has three possible endings to her story that change depending on the player's use of a certain mechanic and a couple of story related decisions.
>I hear Frontier 2 is more story driven?
It is, in SaGa's own way of course.
It is the SaGa you play for the story, and it's a real good one at that, though it's fairly dramatic and character driven.
What are the best JRPGs on PC? No final fantasy, automata or tales or trails games.
hey, that's awesome. Thanks
(though I like hearing about games like that, my overburdened backlog doesn't)
I've almost beaten Ys Oath on nightmare, just need to git gud and stop getting my ass handed to me by Galbaran. It's pretty cool how a 10 hour game turns into a 30 hour game just by upping the difficulty level.
Mary Skelter
>someone else has taken up the Dimensions shitposting
is this what it feels like to be a god
Touhou Defiant of Shrine Maiden
Touhou GoS
Touhou Labyrinth
Touhou Labyrinth 2
>ryza sealed gust's fate as atelier factory
>tsuchiya no where to be found
fuck it, what are some games that have similar settings/tones like ar tonelico and ar nosurge
Mary Skelter was super fun for me.
>>ryza sealed gust's fate as atelier factory
Are you fucking retarded?
I played through all the major jrpgs this gen, not interested in FF7r though. I want to play a classic now, I'm deciding between valkyrie profile and terrangima, which should I prioritize and why?
What are some great JRPGs on the DS/GBA?
anime cashgrabs don't count
Terranigma is shorter and IMO more fun.
We elite Japanese readers will never run out of JRPGs to play, eh?
What's your favorite, by the way? I like 扉の伝説~風のつばさ~
>DS
Etrian Odyssey 3
Gust has been making Atelier as it's main series for 20 YEARS
Battle Network 2
Playing FFVII currently, PS4 version, going for the platinum.
I really want to play Legend of Legia after some anons keep talking about it in these threads. What are my options for playing it now? I do not have a working PS1 any more. I'm open to emulation but I don't know the good emulators or where to get ROMs these days.
and a bunch of other (debatably) cool stuff, but now that ryza brought it to normalfag territory and nights of azure and blue reflection were bombs, do you really see them doing anything else?
>ryza brought it to normalfag territory
Not even a little bit you dumb hipster
Playing Grandia and it's a been lot of fun.
Thinking about revisiting the Evolution series next. IIRC they have a similar sort of feel.
TWEWY
Radiant Historia
Etrian Odyssey
Megaman Battle Network series
SMT Strange Journey
Both Devil Survivors
FF Tactics Advance
Mother 3
Knights in the Nightmare
Infinite Space
It's still a very very niche series
look me in the eye and tell me that KT isn't going to try to capitalize the fuck out of the shot in the arm ryza gave the series
An actual miracle would be needed for the next atelier to sell more than Ryza
riviera: the promised land (gba)
I started unlimited saga today. feels good every time I figure something out, it's my first saga game. I plan on just figuring it out as I go, I heard there's monster ecosystems and a large market economy. cool shit
I have yet to delve deep since I only got started with the language recently (and frankly I have a long way to go)
I visualized my thoughts like this once. For me Soujinengi has the ideal gameplay (the jap only switch port is the bees knees) and Towelket has the best writing/characters.
I have yet to dive into tobiden, I took a quick peek and was intimated by 1500 fucking maps
StarForce 3 has pretty good gameplay and peak romamceable cunny, you can play it as a standalone too without missing out on much
Also both Devil Survivor games, and Tales of Hearts if you're not an EOP
Do not play Riviera, it's really not a good game
Yggdra Union is great though
>EO
>story
Playing Star Ocean 5, so far I don't understand the hate, seems like another Star Ocean, though to be honest, it's really hard to give a shit about the plot or characters since the TWEEEEST on SO3.
Also, playing Growlanser WoT on PSP, way better than expected so far.
Finally, Etrian Untold 2 on 3DS. Same as all other Etrians, fucking addictive and top music.
That's been on my backlog for years, bought it day one for DS, bought it day one for 3DS lol.
Shadow Hearts II is a fucking masterpiece. Still haven't played FtNW, but almost everyone says its just OKish.
Play Ar Tonelicos / Ar Nosurge, Neptunias, the good FFs (IV, VI, IX)
