The thing is FF7 used fun storytelling devices like during Cloud's flashbacks at Nibelheim Sephiroth asks Cloud a question but turns to a random grunt instead of turning towards "Cloud" to visually show that the truth is leaking through Cloud's delusion.
Tactics was just a very straightforward story that had several moving pieces with their own agendas and goals. It was well executed but wasn't as ambitious as 7.

It was but XII made the brave decision to have the player take the role of the evil villain who ultimately wins.

Yes. The pacing was tight, the characters were likeable, and the stakes were high. The game had issues - the only characters to get real emotional development other than Cloud were Red XIII, Barret, and Cid - but overall it was a thematically complete and compelling package. It's possible that this story will keep most of the good and change some of the bad, but I'm worried that Nomura and Nojima will just think that sad things happening makes for a worse story.

I usually dont care but fuck FFVII was the first jrpg I ever played, and I cant help but feel sad with the way they are ruining this REMAKE.

She got a background story, but she was mostly just there to play off of Cloud. All of her moments were Cloud's moments but reflected off of a mirror that was willing to express a wider gamut of emotions. It's fine, it worked for the game, and if I were to list a fourth it'd be her, but there's definitely room to give her her own personality and opinions.

2.) Also doesn't happen. The "WMD" was her birthright, you can't steal what's already yours. And yes, Ashe did want to use it but then decided not to so it didn't even matter.

Global power balance was already destablized and all she did was stop a war that was going to more harm than she even intended to with the nethicite and meanwhile stopped the watcher gods from interferring in their world and controlling everything by offerring access to WMDs to whoever they wanted to win.

Tifa's problem in the original is her character collapses into nothing when Cloud isn't in the equation. She's his anchor, great, but does her character stand on its own? Not really. All of her motivations essentially centered around "Will this help/hurt Cloud?" She definitely could use a tune up to her character arc, so I'm hoping they execute it well. I feel a lot more vengeance from her, and internal conflict about that in the remake, which is a good start.

XIII's story sucks because some magic fate bullshit puts the characters together and drives them to action. VII's story is driven by a group that chose to take action.

Yes. Aerith dying was meh and having characters die permanently for dramatic effect had been done in the series before. But the main character misremembering his own past because he actually mixed up his own past with his friend's memories was a pretty neat twist that I can't really recall being done before. Plus it had a much larger cast with more interesting characters than the vast majority of games.

FFX had a good story too. Weird character designs in some places and some so-so voice acting but the overall plot was easily one of the most interesting FF stories.

Think how much more money they would have made though if they'd had a proper FF7 remake ready to go years ago.

Cloud is built up as a cool hero guy the entire storylien, but then the big twist is that Cloud was a failure! He failed in his then life's quest and it was all to impress Tifa. He then ended up being a lowly Shinra soldier, the very same kind that you kill rather flippantly. That was what was so mind blowing about it. It takes a lot of guts to amke your character's backstory that they're a loser.

Then Cloud becomes the SOLDIER hero he wanted to be anyways (with some Mako treatment and Jenova help from Hojo)

It was shallow but excellently told. Literally the only reason the game is worth playing, because the gameplay was seven kinds of broken and you can find better minigames elsewhere. The entire strength of FF7 was that it was so well composed that people are still arguing about these Lego block motherfuckers to this day.

Even in the remake it's evident: all the best content is the stuff that sticks to the original despite this being a fast paced ARPG instead of a turned based game. It was designed that fucking well.
