Game has no story until the minute

>Game has no story until the minute
>Expects me to find it impactful
What the fuck? It had like no build up, then woop you're now best buds with an ancient aylmao.
Okay game.

>until the minute
yeah, I hate that in my gaymes

last minute*
fug

It's because they realized they weren't technically able to create the game they wanted so they simultaneously started cutting features while also using their early access money to create a slapped together endgame so they could "re release" the game as a complete product. The story is absolute dogshit and the gameplay is incomplete. That's what you get with indie games.

No one is asking you to take the story seriously

the game is

>>Game has no story until the last minute
>only cutscenes count as story
kys

Did you not read anything or listen to any of the audio from the Degasi?

WHY IS EVERY BIG FISH A FUCKING CARTOON DRAGON

>90% of the PvE is rendered moot by stumbling upon an area that's coded not to load within a certain render distance
>you can't build most things without finding this area

I'm still mad over the fucking in-game gun grabbing. At least let me make a harpoon and hunt for food.

The ps4 version shouldn't have been released.
>Fully upgrade seamoth
>Leviathan makes it clip through a wall and gets stuck

>Finally build prawn
>Ground isn't loaded so fall through and reach 1700m deep

>Build cyclops
>Everything is black
>Shit suddenly loads in the biome
>WARNING WARNING THIS SHIT ON FIRE YO

Nice fucking game, and it runs at between 8-30fps.

>discover high tech alien plasma rifle
>YES FINALLY
>it's nothing
When I realized you were pretty much invulnerable in the prawn suit I stopped giving a shit about the monsters. Hell I 1v1'd the ghost leviathan with the drill arms in the story area

>in-game gun grabbing
You're a self-parody.

Did the game literally say that guns were removed from the in game universe because they kill people?

>gun replication was specifically banned following an in-game massacre
>aka a dev got butthurt over Sandy Hook

Fuck off, it's what it is. I don't even want guns specifically, but at least give me a harpoon or a trident so I can properly Aquaman this shit.

>don't pay attention to the story at all
>complain you're not invested when the game ends
retard
the story begins with the first radio message

>>by stumbling upon an area that's coded not to load within a certain render distance
are you complaining about not being able to find Lost River? if so, it has five large entrances
and why are you playing an open world game if you hate exploring?
% of the PvE is rendered moot
incomprehensible
are you being hyperbolic about the % and forgot 'without' in order to complain about how crucial it is to find Lost River

the first two hours of subnautica are the best horror experience in gaming right now. prove me wrong.
however it all falls apart once you realize that you're rarely in actual danger and can outrun all monsters quite easily.

>answer the radio every time you can
>you get nothing for doing so
>slowly realize in game progression is tied to you answering the radio
>realize just by me answering the radio on cooldown I'm now halfway through the game within 4 hours of gameplay
Cool

Rong

It's literally in the same universe as Natural Selection 2, guns were never planned to be in the game because they didn't want it to be about killing the wildlife. You're retards who are falling for the dev's lazy virtue signalling.

The mega-corporation you slave for doesn't let you have guns after a massacre that caused shit PR for them, because your life is worthless to them anyway.

Not lost river, the floating island. Literally has free water and free food spawning plants and the only building part that accepts large machinery

So which is it? Are you getting nothing or are you progressing through the story and getting incentives to explore? Can't be both.

no removed because of some incident where people were killed in a massacre of some kind.

>incentives to explore?
>hey come to my pod
>dude's dead for the 100th time
>no body
>oh cool a FLARE
>get locked into narrative that pushes you to complete the story and not pve like the game was originally designed
shit

Who plays sandbox games for the story anyway?

If I remember right the in game explanation is because people kept going Lord of the Flies in emergencies, so the replicator in escape pods are restricted to making only basic survival gear. Considering every other survivor managed to get themselves killed pretty quickly, they may have had a point.

>If I remember right the in game explanation is because people kept going Lord of the Flies in emergencies
Which is stupid because most of the conflict in lord of the flies was created by lack of resources

Yes it's an incentive to explore. The pods are dispersed through the map in biomes that are relevant to progression and contain story-relevant PDA entries. One in particular leads you to pass above the entrance to the mushroom cave, which starts the degassi arc of the story which will eventually lead you to the end by incentivizing going deeper and deeper.
The game is not about PvE, retard. It's about exploration.

>dev is assblasted over guns
>comes up with a cool idea for a game without guns
>makes vague reference to it in game
In universe there are any number of reasons why Alterra wouldn't want people freely fabricating guns. The Sandy Hook shoutout in the credits is cringe though.
Progression isn't tied to radio (hints), dumbo. The actual problem is that the hint system is too quick to help you and can not be turned off.

>Progression isn't tied to radio (hints)
Yes it is. The progression of the virus is directly tied to how many radio calls you answer. If you never answer a radio call the infection never advances.

>The game is not about PvE, retard
Originally it was, until about 2016 when then money started rolling in

That's what makes SOTC good. It doesn't give you the story when you don't care about it. The story is brought forward only when you're already invested in gameplay and world. It's a mark of genius game design. Miyazaki does something similar in his games with the introduction being just a few sentences of exposition and then you're out to see shit and the story gradually builds up.

Glad to hear the game didn't end up being a shitty PvE survival with awkward combat and no content.

Glad to hear I'm literally informing you on the subject as we argue as if you're a worthless shitposter.

is this game worth $20 or no

Wrong, infection is tied to visiting certain locations.

Play before you buy, retard.

I'm not sure the devs are actually anti-gun. I mean, in Natural Selection 2 you see noguns aloud signs in some of the maps but that turns out to be a horrible idea considering the aliens that grow out of a fucking bacterial spore anytime anywhere and murder all humans.

Yes but don't complete any of the "story" until you're bored of the gameplay.

You think what a game is in apha dev is what it will be once it's complete, so it's not like you're any kind of authority on game design yourself lmao

Yes the infection is directly tied to visiting the locations that the radio tells you to go, get bent with your semantics.

Literally free on epic store

> tfw sequels witty epic female lead
How bad is it going to be at launch

how about the piece of shit that is below zero?
>colony on planet and giant ship in the sky you can see
sense of loneliness that was ever present in the first game? GONE
>MC has no gloves on despite being underwater almost her whole time
and small bump would tear her skin to the bone, not to mention the freezing temps near the surface.
>fired good sound designer because a few problematic tweets
if you listen you can clearly tell when they use old sounds vs new, as well as the lack of good ambient sounds that were so apparent in the first game.
>MC talks so much
who the fuck cares bitch. the games were never about story or character.
>smaller map
b-but once you include land its actually bigger! nah, the games premises is underwater exploration and building. having clunky as fuck land sections takes away from already shallow game.

You're just trying to find something to argue about, get a life.

All the infection triggers are on major locations that you don't need hints to find, faggot.

>>MC has no gloves on despite being underwater almost her whole time
How else are they going to show you you're playing a black french woman?

>I'm forbidden from exploring before the game tells me to go somewhere!
Starting to understand why some of you didn't like the game

Says the guy who comes into the thread of a game he doesn't like to bait people with his non-arguments and then pretends he's not here to start arguments
Get a life

>naturally progress story flags by not answering the radio ever
100 hours of gameplay
>answer the radio and complete the story
4 hours of gameplay

>talk about game you don't know about
>get mad at me for pointing it out
Suck a shotgun

Yes, you'd never go to the Aurora without the radio tellling you to, how could i overlook that.

It automatically tells you to go to the aurora through without ever touching the radio. Nice try though.

I finished the game 3 times. You never played it.
Suck a dick.

Okay

How is the sequel anyway ? Heard it was shit and full of SJW stuff

What was the problematic tweets?

Unfinished

He mentioned that allowing tens of thousands of middle easterners in with no background checks will do nothing but burden out communities.

First one was a lucky success because no other game does underwater exploration, they're too retarded to surf on its success by making more of the same so they're changing the formula. It'll probably be shit.

that is kinda problem with subnautica because, people got this buildup...while waiting for new updates. Playing it as a finish product you can easly skip most of the stuff and this way, you just get the last piece of the puzzle.

I guess there are plenty of RPGs with only 5 hours of gameplay because you have the option of ignoring 20 hours of side quests. It's time to just admit that you are a moron.

Wew, pirating below zero then.

you get a waypoint that takes you directly to the floating island in the first hour of gameplay

are you not using the radio, or visiting the escape pod sites?

Attached: 1583373558381.jpg (782x674, 59.72K)

this is a great bit of storytelling even if the devs didn't intend for it

the alterra corporation made a kneejerk policy to lock out firearms and other weapons after a spree killing, which directly leads to the deaths of presumably dozens of innocents later as they are unable to defend themselves.

You get a mobile vehicle bay, a seamoth, and a seamoth depth module in the first hour of gameplay?

I'm like 25hours in subnautica right now and I fucking love it, I also like to dive irl so that might be why.
I've crafted everything up until the cyclops for now, I still need one hull part for it and I cant find it.
I've dived as far as 900m with the seamoth and just upgraded everything on the prawn to go to 1300.
I guess my only complaint about the game is the slight disappointment that after 500m and once you find the Lost River, its not about a big empty space but rather caverns that you have to find your way in, and its not as interesting.
