It's meant to better simulate how light works in real life. And it's a lot more difficult / tasking for computers, so they want to show off their rendering capabilities.

I have the Index, Rift S and Odyssey+ and I definitely prefer the Index to all of them. The blacks aren't as good but everything else about it makes up for that.

Black Flag still the best

99% of pre-2010 games don't have good lighting. Some of them made up for it with better stylistic choices and design but the technology wasn't really there or was way too heavy.

No. They took the Witcher formula (lots of sidequests) and turned everything about it into a grind. It has a bog standard Ubishit open world with absolutely horrible leveling and looting. It's about as bad as video games get.
