Why do all modern MMOs suck?
Why do all modern MMOs suck?
chinkization
Here's a better question for this thread, why does modern Yas Forums suck? Gone are the days of real OC, the average user age is getting lower and lower, we have fucking memes stolen from twitter, instagram, and black rappers/sports players.
outdated game design
Then:
>If you build it, they will come
Now:
>Fuck. Building it's expensive and risky w/ competition! Engage their monkey instincts constantly, or they'll leave!
>he hasn't heard about guild wars 2
We've all heard of it. That's why we stay away.
The majority of people on this board today started browsing here no later than 2014.
gw2 is shit
The only semi-decent thing about gw2 is the PvP, and even that is only mediocre
its okay to get filtered by the difficult mechanics, dont be sad
>difficult mechanics
oh I am laffin
I wish it didn't exist.
does Yas Forums agree?
Is Phantasy Star Online 2 worth playing? Just downloaded it to my xbox1 but im fighting off the temptation to take a nap.
Sadly I do actually find myself agreeing with leddit here.
From the egregious mobage tier p2w to the complete lack of endgame other than running in circles killing the same mobs over and over, it really deserves the title of worst game. Which is a real shame, because the combat is by far the best of any major mmo, and would feel great in a game that wasn't run by greedy gooks.
If you're fine with a lobby game then it's alright. I only played it a bit, combat was alright but every level felt kind of the same. Also not a fan of scifi stuff and just got the feeling that I'd just be repeating the same missions over and over again.
shut the fuck up lmoao
>benny hill combat
>mechanics
tip fedora was stolen from reddit which was stolen from a twitter meme
>the combat is what makes it good
>i dont want to do the combat repetetively
into the trash it goes with the rest of the opinions
nobody asked
Been posted since 2012, too. Feels bad man.
The combat is good but simply doing the combat over and over with no real purpose gets boring
Emphasis on solo content and convenient grouping. Times were, you needed to get friendly with random dudes just to get anywhere in the world. These days, it's hundreds of thousands of players playing together by themselves, getting into "groups" that never say a word to one another unless someone fucks up, which is incredibly rare because dungeons are super lame, and just blitz through everything in five minutes and never see each other again.
wasn't there an age+favorite game thread a few weeks ago here that confirmed that most people on Yas Forums were born between 98-00?
Retards from tortanic and 2016+ have utterly destroyed this board and mods forgot that ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
>combat is good
>but mindless grinding where you only spam 1 or 2 skills in order to oneshot a pack of mobs isnt
is that hard to grasp?
People don't want to create OCs anymore because everything is stolen and used on other websites, mainly social networks. Even the thousands of variations of Wojacks end up being adopted by normalfags, the same ones who are lurking or posting waiting for "the new hit".
Modern WoW is an ARPG, not an MMORPG
elyon, formerly ascent infinite realm, will save the genre.
Unironically because vg, vr, and to some extent vp exist. The topic restrictions are more strict there than Yas Forums, so naturally as actual vidya discussion is sucked from Yas Forums, the proportion of tangentially-vidya topics on Yas Forums increases.
This.
The general threads is where all the oc gets created. Yas Forums is just where people come to smear shit all over themselves.
Yas Forums was never good.
They changed the name? That'd explain why I haven't heard anything about it lately.
>actual vidya discussion is sucked from Yas Forums
The worst bit is that discussion on various more niche games is completely killed because they are exiled to /vg/ for having 2 consecutive threads meanwhile certain other games are allowed to have 10+ threads at the same time and are never told to fuck off to /vg/ (well, at least not by the mods or jannies)
>graphics from 2009
>hideous UI
You hadn't heard anything because they hadn't posted anything in the past few months. Well, nothing besides some minor nothing updates. They just started posting real news again a few days ago.
>difficult mechanics
They aren't difficult most of the community is just bad.
>mmo fags complain about ui
>dev lets them mod the ui
>mmo fags replace everything with rectangles and squares.
Because everytime someone tries to do some OC, anons start whining that they are reddit/discordfags and doing anything is just inviting newfags and children to the board.
See any Yas Forumsga thread, Yas Forums the musical, any game project that tries to get started.
Lots of people on Yas Forums want this to just be Yas Forums 2.0.
>See any Yas Forumsga thread
The only thing that has ever been entertaining about that shitfest is the recent one where the person shilling it here was desperately trying to damage control it being found out that most the people involved were discord trannies.
While we have problems like influx of retards from other sites and overall generalization of internet as whole, I believe one of the main problems is the lack of content to be turned into OC. Content doesn't appear out of thin air. And it's not just Yas Forums. Back in the day there were countless silly flash animations, youtube poop, demotivators and much more other shit that we don't see nowdays.
To create content you need something that inspires it. Most of highest points of Yas Forums content came from somewhere, like MGR, Tortanic, Smash etc, there was a major event that got the hivemind working. Now very few big events happen, or anything new in general. The last big tide of content was probably Bowsette, and even that didn't last long. And what inspires people to be creative is the sense of community just for the sake of having fun together, no matter how stupid it is. And modern day "OCs" like Wojak variations serve the exact opposite purpose, that is to be as ugly and nonsensial as possible and make others angry.
This.
Matchmaking is cancer plaguing online games, no only mmos. It kills everything community.
Upon reentry into MMOs with classic wow I have some personal anecdotes to share that I think others will empathize with.
When people make friends they game in groups or cliques. These cliques typically transcend the current game. To interface across platforms they use steam, discords, or even their cell phones. Blizzard became aware of this about a decade ago and introduced realid and battlenet that let people interface across all the Blizzard games. The result of this degradation of the roleplaying aspect of characters interacting with characters, guilds becoming more meaningless, and server communities almost ceasing to exist.
Players persona aren't their characters but a gaming persona that transcends through several games. Your not your wow character, your wow character is one iteration of your profile that you stream or tweet.
Guilds have become even more a vessel just to ascertain loot which people may leave as soon as they get what they want. Many times the guilds are just a link to a discord where people form more personalized cliques that may immigrate them to different guilds or new games entirely.
Server communities don't mean anything beyond the most major guilds interacting which doesn't happen much either. Servers used to have "character" and all of them now are interchangeable.
Gaming has evolved past the initial appeal of MMOs.
1/2
They're all designed around habit forming mechanics (daily rewards and tasks) and real money cash shops rather than naturally exploring and interacting with people in a unique setting. Subscription based MMOs used to be the alternative to avoid these gimmicks, but that hasn't been the case for a long time.
2/2
Any fun I had with Classic wasn't doing a dungeon or a raid, it was doing things organically in the world.
>Noticing another player has walked the same road as I have for awhile and I talk to him to find out he's actually is going to the same destination I am so we decide to kill every player of the opposite faction on our way there.
>Grouping with another player in a questing section to fend off other enemy players only to have more enemies come but then more of our own and a large skirmish erupts naturally.
>Helping someone fight an enemy over a herb then escorting him as he farms herbs while killing rival herbalists.
Compare to this to instances.
>nobody talks through the entire length of the two hour dungeon
>raid are worse as the 40man structure depersonalizes everyone
>everybody just goes through the motion while probably listing to music or a podcast because it really boils down to the same formula
Also to maintain guild and raid decorum and viability, there are super inclusive and PC. You may like this if you're a meek sexually confused melanin enriched individual who had to have teacher make the cool kids play with but for the rest of us this is a far cry from what gaming was like in 2005.
>Guilds have become even more a vessel just to ascertain loot which people may leave as soon as they get what they want. Many times the guilds are just a link to a discord where people form more personalized cliques that may immigrate them to different guilds or new games entirely.
This happens every time I try to join a guild in an MMO, whether its a casual or hardcore guild
>welcome, we mostly talk on discord so you should join, here's the link
>not a word spoken in guild chat for hours after
And then if you make the mistake of actually joining the discord its the same cliquey bullshit that you get in every discord server
>habit forming
It's less about making it a habit and more about making the player feel like they're missing out by not playing every single day. It's why I dropped honkai impact 3rd pretty fast, and why I play warframe less and less. Too much content is transient. It becomes less about playing on your time and more about playing when the devs want you to.
>wtf why are all these friends talking to their friends instead of me??
don’t be a sperg and they’ll be talking to you too soon
is there any mmo i can join to get a gf (female)?
almost any mno is good if you have good comunity but in today political climate where you risk band if you talk to people this part of mno is dead
this, once you've played 1 MMO for a couple years, you've played them all
Which MMO has the LEAST-RPG combat?
i.e., no "I cast magic missile and it hits no matter how hard you dodge", and closer to an action game
arena shooters
Any mmo with an erp scene. Keep an eye out for partners that focus on seemingly unusual aspects of it, those tend to be girls. For example, I used to erp with a girl that had a big fetish for navels, and always wanted our sessions to involve some sort of tummy teasing. Sniff out a girl that way and start going after her.
>MMO
>arena shooter
Black desert. It's shit so don't bother.
>I just want to play DMC: the mmo bro. I don't care about the other shit.
It's still shit so don't bother. Enemies are all just typical non threatening mmo mobs that only exist to be grouped up and killed en mass with aoe. Then pvp is heavily dependent on gear score. Enjoy getting burst down by a geared players in just over a second, then doing literally no damage when you try to fight back.
The community is as much at fault for this as the game companies. Every single MMO quickly degrades into a meta that most strictly adhere to so they don't get their shit pushed in. Then they get bored and leave once they realize what should have been an interesting, open world experience has been reduced to a boring fucking grind. People do not want a fun and new experience, they want the small dopamine reward of "winning". So yeah, the game developers are just giving them what they want.
>make an MMO with action-y combat
>pvp is heavily dependent on gear score
what a rotten shame
Because Asian MMOs are P2W dress-up sims that crash and burn in a year like Maplestory 2, and most new western MMOs try too hard to be "survival based" sandboxes to appeal to Minecraft and Battle Royale autists.
Your only hope is to play an MMO like pic related that costs $7 and where the solo content is satisfying enough
I've seen some of the modern mobile games and every time it feels like they made collectible content but forgot to make a game for it.
Man, is it that fucking hard to make some simple jrpg styled turn based combat? Java shovelware was more fun than this shit.
This. Play any mmo long enough and you realize mmo players are the absolute dredges of humanity and deserve what they get.
I played a ton of Blade and Soul and, in a way, it's like that. The problem is that you're bound to be shit if you don't farm like weeks or months of content. And even then, if you got laggy for some reason looking at you Comcast, you can't do shit. So you just might play an Action game instead of a MMO anyway.
>massive multiplayer online
can mean anything really
