With the ghosts it's Nomura trying to use them as a metaphor for fans of the original, acting as if they wouldn't condone any changes at all, when given what people have pointed out before, some changes would've been nice if they actually stuck to the whole FATE IS CHANGED OH NO thing instead of using the ghosts to IMMEDIATELY fix anything different, instead of say, having the outcome of various things be different based on previous choices.

Best example is Hojo about to tell Cloud who he is earlier, and the ghosts just come in and drag him elsewhere so he can't. What was the fucking point? Oh no, Barret died because SEph showed up and stabbed him. Just kidding, the ghosts bring him back!

I really hope that the ghosts' death represents the death of "linear storyline" and that there will be multiple ways various arcs can be resolved, some of which would then also impact what kind of ending you get and who among your party dies or lives.
