the gameplay was better than most people claim, it's not as good as Automata but people give it too much shit for what it is

D1 is a 10/10 for experience, 3/10 for gameplay. if you have to, def remake>remaster
D2 is the same 3/10 gameplay improved to maybe 4/10 but story is fanfic tier, only Caim & Angelus parts are slightly interesting
D3 is lampshaded edgy comedy for the most part, better gameplay but disconnected enough that you could skip out and miss nothing. gameplay 5/10.
Nier is another 10/10 experience, only with 6/10 gameplay. good starting point if you're allergic to jank.
Automata is pretty good. 8/10 experience/gameplay. better balancing than the others, more accessible.

It was repetitive as hell. I wouldn't consider it bad, but it was definitely repetitive and there were spells that just completely outclassed all the others which could be a problem for some.

You don’t need to play Nier to understand 90% of Automata but Automata has massive perception-changing spoilers for Nier so I highly recommend playing the original first. It’s a masterpiece and doesn’t deserve to get ruined.

It had some okay stuff. Every time Caim was on screen I was suddenly having fun. Pact prices are interesting. Nowe’s birth is some fucked up Taroesque shit. Dragon missions play better than both 1 and 3’s.

But the gameplay was just as tedious as 1’s and holy FUCK I HATE NOWE. Fucking dumb plucky asshole could have saved weeks of misunderstanding by saying the words “The General poisoned me” instead of just being like “uh I dunno I just have to figure some stuff out right now”, I’m so glad the uppity little cunt got his harem end destroyed by Taro’s epilogue.

Drakengard is largely overrated on Yas Forums as of 2013. Mediocre games with crazy stories is all they really are. I imagine it would me a lot more interesting if I was still like 12 or 13

The problem with original NieR was that it was outdated since day 1. It's a 2010 game which looks like a 2004 one.

But if you forget that and treats it like a PS2 game, is one of the best experiences ever put in a game.

platnium did nothing for Nier:A, the combat is barley any different than the original. I think it's backwards in some cases too, removing of blocks and parry for no reason to just spam an invincible roll is shit.

You don't need to play Drakengard or NieR because the Taro games are autoconclusive stories which are related in a very poor way which could be treated as an Easter egg. Literally he gives to his games 5 endings and the next game just select one of them (and not always the best) to tell a new story. NieR is the sequel of the joke ending in Drakengard, an Drakengard just follows the story of one light-novel derivated from one Drakengard 3 ending. Taro develops a good kino story about feelings, relationships and the meaning of life and set these elements in a place in his personal universe. In addition, the Taro's confusing lore is splitted in games, light novels, stage-plays and the 70% of all that has been released only in Japan.

but N:A spoils a lot of the original. If someone's going to play them all they shouldn't start with N:A.

To me, it looks like something that would have launched with the 360 or came out in early 2006 for it. The graphics just somehow have that early 7th gen feeling (even though it was a mid-nearly late gen game)
