Are the sequels as good?

Attached: ff13.jpg (640x747, 73.51K)

You forgot the part about the 15 hour fucking long tutorial

The second I got to enemies that wind up their big attacks for like 10 seconds so you can switch to sentinel is when I realized FF13 isn't a tactical system, but an action system with an interface so terrible you have to press a minimum of 5 inputs to hit the block button.
It's a low tier combat system that people like solely because of pretty animations.

Fuck your bait also fuck the whinging babies crying and overreacting over 7Remakes ending

>minimum of 5 inputs to hit the block button.
Awww
wittle baby confused by too many buttons?
it's ok gaymurs like you are the majority and you can just press X to win now in most games

Attached: reallynigga.jpg (800x596, 51.62K)

It really isn't as bad as people say.
I personally picked it up for dirt cheap couple years ago, despite having heard all sorts of shit about it.

The BEGINNING really didn't even try to prove all the bad claims about it wrong, but luckily, to my own surprise as well, the more I played, the more entertaining and hooking it became. It's not GOTYAY or best JRPG ever in any sense, but it's FAR from the "worst crap ever" -category. A solid 7/10 experience IMO.

>Are the sequels as good?
The sequels fixed, expanded and improved many things, especially pacing and gameplay. Up to you whether you like the direction they went with the plot and cast, but they're not hideous either.
I found especially LR to be total blast, easily my 2014's GOTY.
The 13-2 was simply fun, easily 8/10 at least.

>Are the sequels as good?
They are better. As in "some of the best games in the whole IP" better.
Do also check out the Type 0. It's the only surviving member of the "Fabula Nova Chrystalis" saga, to which FF13 and Versus were originally meant to belong too. You can still see lots of familiar elements in it.

>wittle baby confused by too many buttons?

It's the opposite faggot. With such a terrible interface in an action-based system enemies have to adjust accordingly, retarding themselves in the process. Which is why you get degenerate shit like enemies winding up their big attacks for 10 fucking seconds. It's not as if the combat system has any merit tactically, you spam the same "strategy" for every fight.
Imagine Ninja Gaiden Black where enemies wind up their attacks for 10 seconds to compensate for you having to press 5 buttons to block. It doesn't work, nobody who isn't mentally ill would defend such a terrible system.
I'm not surprised a Final Fantasy fan who posts electionbaby memes is a retard.

Based. The cast is one of my favorites in any FF.

>enemies winding up their big attacks for 10 fucking seconds
Literally doesn't happen past the first hour.
The difficulty is very much in tune with FF12
The battle system is simply a more dynamic version of 12's and is very engaging
You never played a single ninja gaiden game, fuck off comparing apples to oranges.

XIII does not have a better plot than X user, I'm sending a drone to your location

>Literally doesn't happen past the first hour.

Someone hasn't played the game, you don't even get the fucking sentinel role in the first hour. It starts happening as late as chapter 10 where the sentinel role is properly introduced, with the hovercycle enemies who wind up for several seconds for a high-damage missile attack that will fuck the party unless you switch to sentinel. It would be an incredibly unpunishing windup with a block button. Enemies have to severely retard themselves to compensate for the terrible interface.

>The battle system is simply a more dynamic version of 12's and is very engaging

Paradigm shift is a significantly dumbed down version of 12's gambit system, which gives you far less control over your party. It's more action focused than tactics focused, which would be fine if it were a competent action system, but as demonstrated, it isn't.

>fuck off comparing apples to oranges.

If the game is going to forgo tactics in favor of action, there's zero reason not to compare it with games that have competent action systems.

X is just zoomers first FF
>with the hovercycle enemies who wind up for several seconds for a high-damage missile attack that will fuck the party unless you switch to sentinel. It would be an incredibly unpunishing windup with a block button. Enemies have to severely retard themselves to compensate for the terrible interface.
It's literally just the ATB, and works exactly like FF12 in most ways
What the fuck are you not understanding about this?
It's not an action game you fucking spastic.
And no, the wind up is not that long, fuck off with the hyperbole.

>better plot than any FF barring 4,12 and tactics
Not hard. Still terrible though.
>lightning gets more character development than any ff protag
Her character does not change until around the 10th hour of the game.
>most of the cast is geniunely likable
Okay, so you liked Hope and Vanille. Righto.
>gameplay is a nice mix of FF12 and X
Giving you control of basically one character and preset moves of several others with very limited ability choices overall.
>still looks great to this day
The only thing I'm going to agree with because the game was too much for the PS3 to handle so naturally a modern system allows it to look decent.

better plot? is this bait
i guess i just fell for it :(

the sequels aren't really even in the same ballpark
not even the same sport
if you liked the world go for it, xiii is standalone with extra content sequels for character fans

XIII actually has a great plot, lore, world design and cast.

falci falci falci flaci blah blah blah
only good chars were lightning and szah

Justify every statement you just made with evidence or this is a shitpost.

Literal brainlet

>Lightning is a cunt
>Hope is a dipshit
>Vanille is a retard sitting on a secret for no reason
>Snow is just a retard
Sazh is cool though

>It's literally just the ATB, and works exactly like FF12 in most ways
In what fucking dimension? You don't get any control over your party members aside from general paradigms.

If you're not setting up enemies to be juggled by canceling or expediting ATB actions then you're just making the late game more difficult for yourself. It's a pretty cool system at high level but there's no excuse for it to take like 40 hours to be viable

I'm one of the few people who enjoyed FFXIII. But good plot and cast? Both sucked until Chapter 8. The game is flawed beyond belief. And I only kept playing because I'm a sucker for Utopian settings and the music is godly.

Attached: 1546546641137.jpg (500x653, 69.64K)

Vanille is literally the antagonist of the entire game. If she had just told everyone what was going on in chapter 1, they'd have skipped 90% of the game. Just like how you could have skipped 90% of Final Fantasy X if Lulu, Auron, Wakka or literally ANYONE explained to Tidus what the pilgrimage end goal was or who the fuck Yuna's dad was.
>but if they told you that, you wouldn't have a game!
Yeah, and I wouldn't have wasted my time on those games. Withholding information because it breaks the plot is the worst writing device ever.

>Just like how you could have skipped 90% of Final Fantasy X if Lulu, Auron, Wakka or literally ANYONE explained to Tidus what the pilgrimage end goal was or who the fuck Yuna's dad was.
Are you stupid?

Are you? If they had told Tidus everything, he would have tried to talk Yuna out of the pilgrimage. Which is exactly what he did the minute they finally did tell him.

SHIT GAME.

>>lightnings armpit pussy
post them

Are people forgetting it was hated because of how fucking linear it was?

But he couldn't talk her out of it anyway, retard. Lulu and Wakka telling Tidus what they knew does nothing, and Auron telling Tidus about Yunalesca doesn't give the party any motivation.

>he would have tried to talk Yuna out of the pilgrimage

He did after he found out. It didn't work. The straw that broke the camels back was her finding out she would have to sacrifice one of her friends + the knowledge that that friend would become Sin. There's no reason to think it would be any different if Tidus found out early. Especially since Yuna endures far worse than Tidus disagreeing in her journey, like finding out the leadership of her religion is completely rotten and becoming a fugitive from said religion.

You know it brodie

Auron already knew about the sacrificing of a friend part. Which he was the one to tell her late in the game. So again, it's a shitty delayed explanation that could have been done at the start of the game. The only reason they delayed it is so the player would travel the world. But while that's good for world building, it's fucking horrible from a plot perspective.

You're seriously fucking retarded.

>"it gets good in 60 hours bro"
>the "good" part is actually fucking terrible and nothing but hunt quests

user... just admit you just play it for the armpit pussy
instead of trying to justify it, we could of had a thread about cute vidya girls armpits
which I declare it should be this thread now

That was my favorite Yas Forums meme. I legit preferred the corridors to the god awful Gran Pulse. Then you have to run between a bunch of statues and do some sidequests to not be gimped.
lolnope, once I realized that Yas Forums had been lying I just loaded up cheat engine and continued with the story.

Pitfags are almost as bad as footfags but Lightning is indeed a qt

Attached: 1370152215716.png (1500x1125, 2.17M)

Yup, keep saying that. It sure proves my points wrong.

Are we talking about Final Fantasy XII, XIII or XV?

>I legit preferred the corridors to the god awful Gran Pulse.
The areas were pretty but limiting most of the game to two characters at a time was really annoying, that's why Gran Pulse is usually cited as a better part because that's where you can start to salvage the combat.

>Not balanced or deep enough to be considered a Strategy
>Player involvement and growth gimmicks are shallow as Hell and all boil down to not accidentally missing a heal with your dedicated healslut
What the fuck genre is this series, anyway?
Don't you dare fucking say JRPG. Never mind the arbitrary differentiation between W/C/JRPGs, there is no fucking way in Hell this garbage series has anything to do with RPGs.
It's closer to a fucking Telltale production, and in those games you actually have an impact on the stories.
Wipe this meme from the face of the Earth.

13 is all right, but I like the gameplay of 13-2 and Lightning Returns a lot more. Sarah, despite being the most normal fucking human being in the 13 series is somehow more interesting to me than Lightning was as a protagonist. In LR, the Snow boss fight had me super hyped.. The party of the 13 series all go through some serious shit, so LR ends up being a great way to wrap things up.

If you liked 13, there's no reason you wouldn't also dig 13-2 and LR. LR is interesting because Lightning's the only party member. But it's fine because the combat gameplay is really polished and gives Lightning three different setups similar to the roles you had in 13 and 13-2 for the party members. It plays really well and the final boss is super cool.

Attached: 1577545669850.png (573x447, 355.92K)

Are you serious? The story is awful.

There's really no other way to hammer the point through to you. Lulu wasn't as much of a zealot as Wakka was but she still believed in Yevon and the pilgrimage so them telling Tidus anything wouldn't change anything, the journey still went on after Tidus found out anyway. Auron's last line to Tidus before he gets sucked up into Sin's butthole is literally "This is your story" and he's not gonna hijack their quest. He reveals what has to be known as needed but he's not gonna instill any ideology in anyone, he's going to let them all draw their own conclusions. Also it was Yunalesca that attacked the party when Yuna refused to sacrifice someone, they weren't just going to show up to Zanarkand and fuck up one of the closest things that Spira has to a living deity.

tl;dr, you're wrong and stupid

Attached: 1322185409586.jpg (355x600, 55.78K)

This is the thinking man’s game. The story is philosophical in a way that outclasses all the other ones in the series, the characters are nuances and multi-layered, and the battle system is simple while offering ways to master that goes beyond obtaining the best attack in the game or just over leveling your party. Its biggest downside is it is genuinely too much for some people.

>It's closer to a fucking Telltale production, and in those games you actually have an impact on the stories.
Pulling on a cord or tapping a character on the shoulder to initiate a cutscene is not "impact." It's literally less than most JRPGs. But I agree with you that JRPG isn't a genre. it's a classification within RPG. There's plenty of JRPGs that are nothing like Final Fantasy.

>once I realized that Yas Forums had been lying I just loaded up cheat engine and continued with the story.
I barely touched the sidequests during that bit and I wasn't gimped. Holy shit are all PC ucks this terrible at video games?

Except her character trait explicitly explains why she never told the party members her secret. Not so in FFX.

The characters literally come back from being worm zombies through power of friendship. Fuck you it was awful and bullshit.

Attached: _20191027_221645.jpg (375x470, 73.57K)

Etro, bruh.

The only reason that place exists is to prepare you for the end game. BUT what if instead you just skip all that bullshit and go directly to the end game? Sounded like a better idea to me.

I knew one day we'd reach the point where the new Final Fantasy games are so terrible this one starts to look good. And here we are just a little over a decade later and it's happened.

I'd rather play 13 than play 8 ever again.

Attached: 1585117324829.png (308x302, 199.82K)

Which is pretty much exactly what I did and I was not underleveled. Sounds to me like you're just shit at fucking FFXIII of all things.

>Square said they would never remake FF7 unless a game they made surpassed it
>FF13 is release
>FF7Re teased
Coincidence? I think not.

>Lulu wasn't as much of a zealot as Wakka was but she still believed in Yevon and the pilgrimage so them telling Tidus anything wouldn't change anything, the journey still went on after Tidus found out anyway.
Like less than an hour later, Auron tells his part of the story, Tidus and Yuna hug in a pool and then she decides not to complete the final rite. So no, they didn't "just go on with the journey." Yuna was already wanting to quit before Tidus talked to her. The combination of Tidus and Auron talking to her convinced her to quit. And both could have happened as early as the first Blitzball match. Especially if Auron just told Yuna about her father. Since he was the whole reason Yuna was doing this.
>Auron's last line to Tidus before he gets sucked up into Sin's butthole is literally "This is your story" and he's not gonna hijack their quest.
This is invalidated later in the game when Auron tells Tidus he never planned for him to meet Yuna at all. And he went along with it because "they happened to be heading to the same place." Auron's original plan was always just get Tidus to Zanarkand, let him talk to the wall of corpses and then find a way to get inside of Sin to fight Jecht and stop the cycle.
>He reveals what has to be known as needed
Yes, the shitty plot convenience I've been describing. Only enough that it will keep the player on the pointless pilgrimage, but not enough to actually alert Tidus or Yuna to what really needs to be done. Despite how Auron knows the whole thing is pointless. But should he tell everyone and start working on a plan that will actually work? Nah, let's just follow this girl on her pointless quest for 30 hours, even when Auron knows it's a fool's errand. Great writing game!
>but he's not gonna instill any ideology in anyone, he's going to let them all draw their own conclusions.
Except late in the game, he does the exact opposite.

Even Tabata's hackjob is better than XIII

Her character trait being "I'm embarrassed I failed so I won't tell anyone, even though all their lives and my own depend on it." That's a REALLY shitty personality trait.

Did you level up by mistake?

No, her character trait was to try and solve everything on her own.

>he does the exact opposite
He doesn't. Watch the Yunalesca scene again, Auron just stands by until Yunalesca goes into attack mode. You have a severe lack of basic fucking comprehension

Is leveling up in VIII bad because enemies scale faster than the player like in Oblivion / Borderlands 2?

i would literally do anything to have lightning sit on my face
