I unironically wish we had a full game based on the Cabaret stuff, it was my favorite part of both 0 and K2.

just finished 3, started in on 4,
i can see why people dislike 3 now that i've played it, but the first 5/6 of the game is really good imo. but 4 seems like it jumped 5 years in quality.
Same here 3, overall just feels like the low point, started 4 the other day and I think Akiyama might be a pretty interesting character.
I've heard it the other way around, where people complained that the game started out too slow.
Akiyama is based as fuck. One of the best parts of Yakuza 4.
well that's what i liked about the 3, it was really chill. I can see why some people didn't like the forced slice of life stuff at sunshine but it wasn't really all that much and Okinawa was really comfy. The game took a massive hit for me because i was playing the ps3 version which didn't have Mahjong. The game is rough all around but it's chill up into the last 2 chapters.
I really liked the last two chapters and the slice-of-life stuff, but the lack of content sounds like shit. I played the PS4 remaster which didn't gut the fuck out of the game, so I guess there's that.
when the "thing" happened with Rikiya i started drooling on myself and beating my chest with a limp wrist and saying pee pee poo poo, c'mon now. seriously. the walk away, just leave the guy there with the gun c'mon now.
I was surprised by how cool Date was in Kiwami. He really skyrocketed as one of my favorite characters.

kiwami 2 and yakuza 6 on a standard ps4 is a mess until you adjust to it
same for remastered PC, i really hope PC will get 7 within a year. I'm not holding my breath.

To be fair, Kiryu thought he knocked him out. It's still dumb, but it's not as bad as the one in Yakuza 4. Walking away from the villain with the gun is probably my most hated trope in this series. I'm glad they did away with it after 5.

Kek. The cutaways always get me.

Where is the best place to start? I wanna get one on PSN.
in both Y3 and Y4 i'm getting buttfucked by oichi kabu and cee lo. none of the other games have raped me so badly. i sit down, the guy to my left gets aces out. ok, there's 300 tags gone. 4 turns later, he gets aces out, there's 500 tags gone. hmm... could he really? yes he does, but on the way i get robbed by everyone else. these two games have sucked the will to gamble from me.
Best place to start would be Yakuza 0. It's a prequel to all the other games, meaning you don't require any prior knowledge to enjoy the story. Very beginner friendly. Another way to start would be with the original Yakuza on PS2, but that doesn't exist on PSN, so start with 0. After that, go:
>Yakuza Kiwami
>Yakuza Kiwami 2
>Yakuza 3
>Yakuza 4
>Yakuza 5
>Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
I'd recommend taking breaks every two or three games so you don't experience burnout, because these games are pretty long (especially 0 and 5).
I really liked the first 4 chapters but as soon as you head back to kamurocho and the main story kicks off it kinda starts to suck. Also the combat feels incredibly repetitive compared to Kiwami 1/2, it becomes a chore halfway through the game.
I enjoyed 3's story a lot (minus the big exposition scene in the middle of the game), while I didn't enjoy 4's overall narrative that much. Unfortunately, 3 is the third mainline game, which means you have to really level up Kiryu in order to get some of the cooler moves to spice up the combat. 4 definitely has an edge when it comes to variety.
thx user
No problem. Enioy, and come back to these theads after playing them. We enjoy the discussion.
Finished 1, now playing 2. It's so good. How could I miss this series for all those years?
I guess the way it was presented was alright but none of the characters actions made any sense at all, least of all the whole background story behind the resort/military base and the main villains motivations
I don't know, man. They tried to market Yakuza 1 as a Japanese GTA and it fucking BOMBED here in the west, because it was nowhere close to that. Yakuza 2 didn't do so hot because of 1, and 3 had the same translation issues that 1 and 2 had, while also cutting out a lot of content. After 4 didn't do so hot, 5 didn't even come out until western fans begged SEGA to release it (digital only). Yakuza 0 really saved the series, because not only was it a good starting point on the new generation, it was also a super solid game.
By the way, are you playing the original 1 and 2, or the Kiwami remakes?

Playing through 3 now. Its rough man. I thought people were joking when they said like half of it is stupid orphan shit. I figured it was just the opening couple hours and after that it'd take a backseat, but it never ends.
>By the way, are you playing the original 1 and 2, or the Kiwami remakes?
I'm playing the original PS2 verisons on PCSX2. I was really confused that Yakuza 2 was all in Japanese all of a sudden. The English dub was cheesy, but fitted perfectly imho.
The original dub was poorly translated and not well-acted, not to mention Yakuza 1 bombed pretty hard. It makes sense why 2 didn't get one. Don't expect another dub until Judgment and Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

It's only about three portions of the game and that's it, and the last time you're with them things are going down so it's quite interesting. Even the second to last meetup has some drama going on that's somewhat interesting.
i don't understand why people care about voice overs, i can understand if you're borderline retarded and can't read, but then why even play narrative heavy games? seems like fortnite would be better. American voices, idk it must be that I've grown up listening to them, there's only a small handful of voice actors worth a damn and almost none of them find their way into games. I would much rather pretend japanese voice actors are good because i can't tell what they're saying. if i had to listen to half the shit that the average goon says in yakuza, in english, i'd lose my fucking mind.
>hey there buddy pal whatcha doin?
>you looking fer fisticuffs old timer?
>heya ohh watch where ya walkin' buster
I was completely pulled out of the moment and just stared blankly at the screen while Kiryu's poor voice actor is giving one hell of a performance because I genuinely could not comprehend that Kiryu could let this happen for like the 50th time so far because he can't be fucking bothered to pick up a bad guy's gun or maybe find something to tie his hands with before just forgetting he's still there and talking to his expendable buddy.
I didn't like him on kiwami, he didn't do much and fucked up a lot. I'm currently playing kiwami 2 and so far I'm liking him a lot more than on kiwami.
Didn't ya hear, user?
>FUCKED MY WHOLE LIFE UP
Takaya Kuroda says his favorite game to work on was Yakuza 3, funnily enough.
>Bump and scam
Loved it too, the following substories had me laughing a lot.
>these games are pretty long
Yeah, I finished 0 and went straight to kiwami and had a great experience, I spent a lot of the time doing substories and minigames, or well just pocket racing.
Now I'm on kiwami 2 and felt the burnout hard, I'm sad that there's no pocket racing and I don't really like the feel of the game, graphics and combat.
Makes sense. It must have been interesting as an actor to have such long sequences where your bad motherfucker supercriminal character is just living a peaceful life trying his best to give some poor kids a good home.
I honestly think 3 would be a much better game if it fully embraced its filler arc nature and took place entirely in Okinawa with Kiryu juggling his role as a guardian with him also being pulled into the petty affairs of the local yakuza families.
Once Kiryu put away the hawaiian shirt and changed into his standard outfit to head back to the standard city, the game had lost its whole identity.
I kinda wish I didn't rush through the main game of 0. Not because I was bored of the game or anything but I found the story to be pretty damn engaging and wanted to know what happens next so I didn't do that many side missions and cabaret/real estate stuff. Now that I beat the game I don't feel any desire to come back to it. The story demanded so much urgency in certain chapters that it felt wrong to just fuck around.
That happened to me, too. Riding off the tail of Kiwami, I had just enough energy to get through the story, but not enough to mess around with everything else like It's hard to stop and just enjoy the side content in these games because you always want to see where the storyline's going next. I barely did anything in Yakuza 6 besides the story, just like I did with K2. Right now, I'm trying to complete Yakuza 0, and man is it rough to do because all I have left are the fucking gambling minigames, coliseum, and Dragon and Tiger. I really should've done the gambling shit before anything else.
I've only completed yakuza 0 and kiwami, currently playing kiwami 2

They do that in every game but you really should just try to sneak in other things because they intend for you to be doing those in the middle of it all. The main story also becomes harder than they intend when you rush the story. Ishin for example has a room of three bosses in an enclosed space that kill you in like four hits if you rush through the story but they're much more approachable if you have some decent armor and better styles while 5 has some sketchy fights particularly with Shinada.
Don't feel forced to go along with the story because then you miss an entirely other good part of the game and then you'll have to force yourself to do that instead of experiencing it as it goes.
D&T's pretty easy if you're not going for the style-specific drops which aren't necessary for the completion list. Just use Shakedown on Kiryu for the money, funnel it to Majima via Moneybags, and pay so that the search is shortened to 10 seconds (Because it takes roughly that to get out of all the menus and dialogue). If you can't find certain ETC items unequip anything boosting your rarity rate for searches, and anything that gives you a recipe in an area can just be searched again to find that recipe's item barring a couple of the last areas and items.
Dame da ne
They kinda did away with it in 5. Daigo gets shot but it's cause of a completely unrelated dude, not the villain on the ground
Am I the only one who likes to pretend everything past Yakuza 2 is a What If?
I want Kiryu to settle down and have a family, man. He deserves so much better than having his adopted daughter and livelihood stolen by some fucking chink.
If the remaster happened, it would be just like the ps4 version right?
Kind of turn off after playing 0 and kiwamis different graphics and feels.
the sort of over the top drama is ok, even good if it's done well and in moderation. There's a reason millions of people watch WWE and puro wrestling is huge in japan. I get it, it's a male soap opera. They just took it way too fucking far in Y3 imo. in K1 (didn't play the original) it was clearly meant to be that sort of j-drama expendable plot devices around every corner but even then I felt like it was spread out enough.
This is the main reason I have to tell people to play Yakuza 0 first. I feel like they didn't really grasp the necessity of filling in characters until much later.
Yakuza 4 on RPCS3 w/ upscaling looks fucking amazing, it plays amazing. It's fantastic, looks as good as Kiwami 1. I'm sure the remaster is going to be even better on PC. With that said, Y3 is the odd duck, it's probably going to look a little rough and it will play even rougher. 4 and 5 shoudl be on the same level as the other ones on PC imo.
I preferred sleeping dogs
It would just be like the PS4 version, yes. You'd be going back to Kenzan's engine with 3 and working your way up to the polish of 5's engine which was used in Ishin, 0, K1, and FotNS. 4's alright, it's just 3 that's the outlier because it was building off of Kenzan and that game didn't exactly have the best hand-to-hand fighting along with some minor issues that carried over so it felt a bit clunky, but 4 fixed up a lot of the issues that plagued both Kenzan and 3 and Kiryu feels incredible when you get access to him in 4. Plus the rest of the characters in 4 all handle very smoothly, Akiyama's super fast in particular.
They don't intend for a Kiwami of those games and have only expressed interest in maybe doing a Kiwami of Kenzan because it desperately needs it.
Do you guys think they fucked up Haruka's model on kiwami 2, she was really cute before.
That aspect is fine.
I'm saying that it completely pulls me out of the story if the main character makes the exact same simple mistake every single time it could possibly happen. There's not one time where he thinks "Shit, this is the same scenario where 3 of my friends have died from my carelessness. I should go grab his gun, and maybe search his clothes for any other weapons."
Kiryu is not a man with the memory of a goldfish. He should remember his experiences and learn from them like any other functional human being.
looks the same, just a bit older
Haruka is an awful person who first abandons her dog then fucks over T-Set for literally no reason. She could have done the exact same thing privately, ten minutes later, and not ruined the lives of everyone who ever cared about her. Teen pregnant wore.
Baba-chan best girl.
>>Baba-chan best girl.

Kinda, her eyes feel soulless
Haruka is a soulless character, tee bee aych.
I was in your shoes about two weeks ago until I finished Kiwami 2 for the first time, and it's definitely up there for the series. You have to level your skills by eating and shit, makes it far less enjoyable if your punches do like 1/20th of a standard enemy's health. Also, the start is kind of boring, I will admit, considering how you're coming off the heels of the emotional climax that was Kiwami 1/Yakuza 1.
Shinada-san is for milky only. Baba is for everyone. He knew what he was getting into when he went to prison.
Yakuza 5 runs on the same engine as 0 and Kiwami, so it shouldn't be too jarring to look at.
I forget, which Yakuza game is the shortest?
