Video Games Can Never Be Art --Slavoj Žižek

>"Having once made the statement above, I have declined all opportunities to enlarge upon it or defend it. That seemed to be a fool's errand, especially given the volume of messages I receive urging me to play this game or that and recant the error of my ways. Nevertheless, I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say "never," because never, as Hegel informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form and so on."
Looking back on this, was he right?

Yes, video games are not art. And that's a good thing since modern art is shit and even if it wasn't the factor that sets apart the two is the most important factor to making a good game.

>A game is a structured form of play, usually undertaken for entertainment or fun, and sometimes used as an educational tool.[1] Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more often an expression of aesthetic or ideological elements.

Who fucking cares, art isn't real, it's just a pretentious word for pretentious people to jerk themselves off with, and whether a game is art has no effect on how enjoyable it is

Zizek is full of shit stop giving him attention.

>there will never be games that schizo commies will like enough to brand as art
he is wrong, there's been a few already and there will be more.
they just hold so little appeal to anyone other than blue checkmarks and golden stars, the general public didn't even notice them.

he hasn´t play rain world and that shit is art

oh look, some "intellectual" that people go to when they can't think for them fucking selves. Just because he's probably praised for some area of his work doesn't mean his word on video games means anything. Anyone, no matter how respected they are, can have their arguments scrutinized like anyone else.

>implying Zizek could make a statement that long without even a single shniff
Yeah right, he never said that.
