Received the game in the mail today. Me and my buddy, both long-time fans of the original, have been playing for about 6 hrs now, and we're not even past the 2nd bombing mission yet because 80% of the game consists throwing pointless obstacles and filler in your way to pad out the play time.
Also, they introduce Septhiroth the moment you finish the opening bombing mission. They are ret-conning the shit out of the original story. It was clear from the trailers Square was ditching any semblance of subtly and restraint, but it's far worse than I could have imagined. They basically fan-service the the game to hell within the first 2 hours. I didn't buy into the hype like so many of the fanbase seems to do, and really tapered my expectations, but they fucked it up beyond anything I could have imagined.
