It still manages to be a good game, because while the changes are bad, they really aren't that massive or numerous.
Mind you, I'm not one of the purists that thinks the VII remake should have stayed as turn-based, the new battle system is fine with me. But why the fuck would you add all these extra elements in from side-content that weren't experienced by nearly as many people as original game? It is cool; unfortunately concept and execution are very different, and time travel is one of those things where unless you have it in mind from the first or implement it absolutely perfectly it shits down the throat of everything, so it's much more likely to fuck things up as opposed to improving them. Combine that with Nomura being a fucking hack and people complaining they were sold a remake and not a sequel and I can understand why people are upset.
