Oldthinggood isn't even a real genre.

I don't know how you could possibly think that about Symphony of the Night.

elaborate
i played all of those games just fine without using a guide. At which points do you need to consult guides for it? It's already a genre associated with brainlets, and now you make a proclamation like this?

I played hollow knight without a guide but got the worst ending

A good metroidvania can be beaten without a guide. A bad one can't.

I mean to be honest, none of the endings are all that good.

What makes metroidvanias worth the extra effort then? Why not make to job of "creating a good game" as easy as possible on yourself?

People who like metroidvanias enjoy learning the level layout and finding paces to use new abilities.

If you think it's tedious, the genre is just not for you.

you might just be retarded op. metroidvanias are best played blind. I think you're missing the whole point of them.

>I'm bad therefore everyone is bad

Name one that can't be beaten without a guide

Its a shit genre anyways

here's three:
Hollow Knight
Super Metroid
Symphony of the Knight

I got to 100% without a guide before I started looking up Grimm and godhome. Granted it took me 70 hours, but I had fun.

myla.....

Beat all three without a guide. Try again.

Terraria is my favorite metroidvania

>Super metroid
LOL

sorry, misread the question

NOOOOOOOOO YOU CAN'T JUST USE A GUIDE
YOU HAVE TO BACKTRACK TO THE 150 LOCATIONS YOU COULDN'T REACH BEFORE TO FIND IF YOU CAN NOW

Then how did the guide writers complete the game naturally in the first place?

Checkmate.

By being autistic and putting in enough hours to get laughed at by functional people

I always use guides

La Mulana is far too niche to be holy trinity tier

This this THIS! So MUCH THIS

I beat all three of those games without a guide.
Super Metroid I beat as a 6 year old boy without even having internet access.

What's your excuse, user?

The only metroidvanias I've used a guide on were Super Metroid and Axiom Verge, but both games have some bullshit paths sometimes, but I can guarantee Symphony of the Night is SO intuitive and pleasant to move. The only thing that might need a guide is the reverse castle, and that's supposed to be a secret. Another metroidvania that doesn't require any guides is Ori and the Blind Forest.

Just power bomb the tube bro it's good game design

i disagree

you are fucking retarded

It's funny how butthurt people get over directional compasses in videogames telling you which general direction to go next.

I'd rather have something like that than the trial and error backtracking you mention that is a fundamental part of the metroidvania genre.

I'm sick of this retarded meme. It literally shows Samus bombing the tube in the intro before the title screen.

Valdis Story isn't that great and Insanely Shitty Shadow Planet is a terrible game.

hollow knights the best because it has a ton of fuckable bugs with huge asses

Symphony of the Night is easy without a guide.

This man has his priorities in the right order.

If you're fucking brain dead maybe. Though I guess that does cover most of Yas Forums

La Mulana if you aren't super intelligent. Metroid Fusion has a few 'fuck players' spots that may make you go for the guide. Bunny Must Die also has a few stupid spots.

I beat SOTN as a retarded child without a guide and as a retarded adult I can't say it's that complicated to explore and figure things out
Maybe they require more patience than some games but even chaotic shit like fighting Galamoth without the Beryl Circlet isn't that hard if you just pay attention

If you assume Shade Lord is benevolent then no flower pantheon is a good ending.

Literally just the other day beat Mummy Demastered without looking up a goddamn thing. Just before that, did Lodoss War and last year did Bloodstained. Come at me, brainlets.

reddit

Super Metroid gets dumb about halfway through the game. I gave up after 10 years of being lost and got a guide.

La Mulana is on a totally different tier than those other two, it's not that it's bad but it's so much more obtuse

so there is platformers in the list but Pharaoh, shantae and OoE are not metroidvanias?

>game focus is exploration and progression via trial and error
>immediately Google a walkthrough

ISHIGGDIGGY

>symphony of the knight that high

You do realize that they're designed to be, you know, confusing, so that you get lost and feel the sense of exploration? The metroidvanias you show are all good at that and using a guide is just going against the metroidvania genre itself.

...

reminder that all La Mulana threads on Yas Forums had an faq in the OP.
people only claim to like it for the e-points

Yas Forums is retarded and filled with casual fuckers.
What else is new.

Archeology in games is tight and it's never been done better than in La Mulana, if you're not into that it's your shit taste and your problem really

t. faqhog

Simon's Quest

They're all based on disconnected level design, as in you select different areas from a menu. This is of course bullshit and Pharaoh Rebirth is a great and underrated game.

La-Mulana is not all about intelligence but pure autism.

Weird, I beat all three without a guide. You must be bad.

La Mulana

I beat all the 2d metroids without a guide, my only hang up was that fucking hidden platform in Metroid Fusion that I only found because I was angrily spazzing with the morph ball bombs

Literally all of them, try having a triple digit IQ for once

Not a genre, but nice try.
