I don't see how an anime character streamer can be any better of a surrogate friend than a human streamer you could actually meet and talk to and touch in person at a con. I don't know about the second one. i find Critikal/Vine sauce vinny/dark viper AU more visually appealing than generic anime characters who's eye movement don't really correspond with the game they're supposed to be looking at too well and in general have kind of shitty lip sync. the whole thing just looks stiff and unnatural.

Why is it so much of a problem that people enjoy watching stupid fucking videos on the internet? Unless you're literally a 50 year old boomer, chances are you've watched (and enjoyed) lets plays before and it's the same concept, just for weebs. I don't watch vtubers but I like seeing people react to playing weird shit or playing movie games that I'd never pay for myself.
