Plenty of anglos that adopted French names. Also this:

His name is SUNSET TEQUILA, thank you very much.

How does everyone feel about the end of the game? felt kinda abrupt and railroaded. But I am not as mad that The killer is introduced in the last 5 minutes as I normally am.

The killer was the world, the society, the city. Driven this one man insane with hate for all of its greed, destruction and lack of humanity. All funneled through this one man hidden in the shadows. Pretty great.

he is an extremely weak willed person that put entirety of his self worth into his work and his wife, without keeping any love for himself
eventually he became a hysterical mess that could not endure the stress he was solely responsible for and his wife left him, since entirety of his self respect was built upon others and not his own will he went into full denial mode and deluded himself that his relationship was somehow fixable and that this was only a phase
eventually when it became clear that this was not the case he started to drown the truth in alcohol and drugs and turned his wife into a saint christ like figure in his mind which he deified as something much more than she ever was, while his self loathing and hatred grew to a point that he became constantly borderline suicidal

I dunno, for me the game played out perfectly
It didn't really matter what the ending was because the playthrough felt completely unique to me and how I played it

ehh thats extrapolating a bit much.
It was basically motivated by jelousy, radical ideology and just going crazy and you are left to extrapolate how much of each. But the point is more that this is enough to light off the powder keg of what is essentially a post soviet eastern bloc country struggling with its identity. I dont think the world drove him crazy because of its greed or whatever. He was just a nutter tankie, who grew crazier in solitude and used his ideology as an excuse for his basic human desires. But the world was too caught up in its bullshit to notice him, so the murder because some union thing.

Sure but it *is* railroaded to once you find ruby. I think it is fine as long as you acknowledge it is not really about the murder mystery. It is really just an excuse to take you on the adventure, hence not being as mad as usual. But is a bit annoying if you want to solve a muder.

kys commie

We are seeing similar things but with a different perspective. Much like how the game highlights with its personality system. The beauty of games like this is that it's open to interpretation.

the ending is terrible, although i feel the story was never about the ending anyway, but moreso how you approached each situation and what kind of character you played. it's a story about experience, not a conclusion.

He had a rigorous self-critique.

I think this sums it up well.
I was really invested in the game and went. "well this ending is terrible" but was not really upset about it. Like I am with say, ME3 or LiS. I went in expecting a murder mystery "detective RPG." and got a wild ride instead. So I wasn't really mad when the ending didnt fit a murder mystery.

you weren't a filthy communist, were you Yas Forums?

Also while we are here.
What percentage of these games do you guys actually read? I think when I play something like this I read about 25% skim through 40% and skip about 35%. Is that normal?

Dear god. Why play the game at all

because I enjoyed it?
I can just get the gist of some of the fucking church shit for example by just skimming through it. Game is a bit heavy on exposition dump.

The idea of skipping dialogue makes me hurt inside. Mainly because of the nature of the game. It's well written enough the it never really feels like an unnecessary amount of time is spent on one subject matter. At least in my opinion

The dialogue in the game is like 4/10 at best. It's mostly skippable.

To each their own I guess. I loved it

I mean, it reads like it was written by hipstery commies. That's pretty skippable honestly.

I don't disagree that it is the nature of the game or incerdibly well written.
I just find dialogue where there is a short essay for you to respond to unnecessary and overly descriptive can become wank. I do the same thing with pretty much any CRPG and do it for books that drag on with description like Tom Clancy or the songs in LOTR. Was just curious what percentage of people actually read through every word verbatim. Or who clicked through some of the lesser dialogues or skimmed through.

Yes, in your opinion it is. What has really good dialogue to you?

Mass Effect Andromeda.

I can empathize with what you're talking about. We all have our levels of patience and resilience.
I personally read all of it fully

lol, just watch someone elses gameplay for 5 minutes on YT at that point.

I cant tell if this is sarcastic

Pathologic classic.

Havent played the first one but played the second. That one also has writing I enjoyed a lot. A little less than disco, but they're both great in their own way

how is that at all comparable or even relevant as to whether you read it all or not?

Planescape: Torment is basically what happens when good developers make a good game according in a similar setting.
Disco is what happens when talentless hipsters make a non-game imitation.

Disco isn't a CRPG.

ehhh it kinda is. The dialog system and narrative works like one, suppose it is more point and click adventure. Disco Elysium is not a Tom Clancy book or LOTR either so not sure your point here. Im not really autistic about genres.

Definitely wouldnt call them talentless. They went from never making a video game to this. Which requires a good deal of talent. Both those games a great in their own right.

There's no combat. It's a visual novel.

For me, its anodic dance music

Attached: Disco Elysium dance.webm (477x537, 705.05K)

lol. It is definitely not a visual novel. I think it is definately more of a point and click adventure. More like Monkey Island than Steins;gate. Though like I said, trying to put games in boxes is kinda meaningless and stupid anyway.

>There's no combat
that's not the end all be all of a crpg

HARDCORE

Being sad is okay.
But he gets sadder than anyone.

What said. They have talent and the game is pretty indicative of that. The thing is that the game is a point and click, first and foremost, with RPG elements added on. It's understandable why people, most of which have little to no frame of reference, or love for, for point and clicks, would pick up the game and largely dislike it.

YEKOKATA IS THE PLACE TO BE

Attached: Disco Elysium dance 2.webm (500x537, 731.54K)

I mean when was the last time there was point and click with this much of a spotlight on it. No one has the basis on understanding anymore, as you said. Honestly, this game is a testament of what is possible with enough dedication and a vision. From no game experience to amazing, innovative game under your belt

in fairness the dude has tabletop experience and wrote a book.

wasnt aware of the tabletop thing. But he was able to break that stigma that so many fear to break. The, I create within this medium so I cant possibly cross over to another.Which I admire.

With as much attention it got for being a point and click it actually gave me a bit of hope for some of my own more niche game ideas I've been mulling over.
Now it's just a matter of getting off my ass, learning to code, and getting some more people on board to help with coding and art. Sucks that just doing writing, design, and sound won't cut it as an independent.

playing this for the first time right now, about 4-5 hours in
it's good, certainly has some funny dialogue, but it feels like it's missing something that a game like Planescape has; maybe the setting just isn't as interesting?
and the writing feels so obsessed with economics, politics, race, all that shit, it's hard to not see the writers as high on their own farts, I'm constantly bombarded with the crap

Attached: I sure hope you guys don't update this.png (520x390, 95.44K)

>the writing feels so obsessed with economics, politics, race, all that shit, it's hard to not see the writers as high on their own farts, I'm constantly bombarded with the crap

that's the interesting thing about the setting. If you're not into politics you may not get as much from the game.
