Why is Sephiroth actually trying to kill Cloud?

Sephiroth was unhappy with how his plan failed after the end of the original FF7. He then time traveled back to try to stop himself and change his plan. This game takes place in the second timeline and old-Sephiroth's presence in it drastically changes the course of the story. It's called FF7: Remake because Sephiroth wants to "remake" the world.

Dude, the scene shows the anti-retcon ghosts being vaporized around Zack. Then he looks up and says "I got them all?" like even he himself is surprised at his survival. The game even zooms on a bag showing that dumb cartoon dog you see throughout the game, except it has a completely different design, it's literally screaming "THIS IS A DIFFERENT TIMELINE", (timelines are confirmed in the entries for the anti-retcon ghosts by the way). Then in the last scene you see Zack carrying Cloud into Midgar while the gang is exiting Midgar. The implications are really obvious.

Also... they wouldn't use this scene as the cliffhanger if it didn't mean anything in the first place.
