I really enjoyed Doom Eternal, but the whole deification of the doomguy thing is cringe overload. It was kind of endearing at first to see the demons afraid of him - that's funny. But all this retarded overuse of rip and tear, the godlike powers he was given, giving him a fucking voice and showing his backstory. The writers obviously thought that angle was a lot cooler than it actually is, but then that's just my opinion. Maybe Doomguy's power level exploding to 100,000,000 while his armor shreds off from his rippling biceps and he grows angel wings but actually they're demon wings because his dad's a demon and his hair turns long and blonde and he shoots a beam of energy that LITERALLY destroys mars from his super cool energy master sword is cool to some people.

I don't think he's the chosen one at all, actually. He wasn't "Prophesied" to do anything. He's just a man who happened to be capable of fighting hard enough to become a legend

OG Doomguy took the canon Doom 64 route until he was picked up by another dimension screaming about demons, and got reforged into becoming a champion of a warrior society of humans that eventually settled on Earth. Boss lady angel got wind of Hell dimension, thought that taking their energy was some GOOD SHIT, and started making plans. One subordinate of boss lady thought this was fucked up and cringe, and decided to transfer his awesome angel powers into Doomguy for shits and giggles. Doomguy gets pumped up even more to god-like power and takes on the moniker of Doomslayer, until he got knocked out by a trap set up by demons, resulting in UAC of another timeline to pick him up, also head by former angel that transferred his power to him because he felt he probably needed him to punch demons in the face. Thus begins DOOM 2016.
