Silent Hill 4

This worth playing? I heard 4 was so bad Konami killed Team Silent for it.

It's definitely not "so bad". But it's probably the weakest out of the first Silent Hill games. Still good in my opinion, interesting ideas but the gameplay can unfortunately get tedious.

Yes, totally.

>I heard 4 was so bad Konami killed Team Silent for it.
You heard wrong.
Jewnami just pulled the same stunt on TS as they did to Kojima Productions a few years ago.

This. Give it a go. Not great and not terrible.

>Konami killed Team Silent for it.
SH4 was never supposed to be a silent hill game until really late in development. Konami forced the name change, published it, then got angry at team silent for not making a good SH sequel. Absolute fucking Jews at Konami.
Should you play it? Yeah, it's actually kinda interesting but gameplay is far different compared to previous SH games

I liked it a lot, it had some interesting ideas. It's the later half with going through the same areas again but as an escort quest while running from invincibe enemies that's the bad part, but it doesn't kill it for me.

I also liked Homecoming, it gets a lot of hate but I don't consider it a bad game at all. Never tried Downpour

The game is great with just a handful of issues that really stick out.
Its got that DMC4 syndrome problem where the second half of the game is just the first half recycled. Really sucks. As well as some very strange sound design choices in a series renowned for its amazing sound direction.

But the game is legit the only SH game to actually scare me somewhat, and should be praised for having a character thats needs to be escorted for a long period of time, that is actually NOT useless, and NOT an annoyance (in a horror game no less!).

>NOT an annoyance

this is a lie. although she cant technically die, how much damage he takes has influence in the ending you get

When i played she more than took care of herself. I would often come back to find her finishing off enemies on the floor she had killed on her own.
She doesnt not need to be babysat, just kept in mind. Compared to most escort quests this is above and beyond.

Does have its moments

bad for its time since PS2 got a bunch of amazing horror games but a great game compared to modern shit standards.

Stick your shitty meme up your ass dumbass.

>the gameplay can unfortunately get tedious.
How so?
I think gameplay is not the problem. The character actually moves faster and the combat is more fluent compared to 2 and 3. I'd say it has the least clunky combat in the series.
The real problem is the lazy level design, the excesive backtracking, the escort segments and how the devs killed the god tier atmosphere. But gameplay is better here

>Watch intro expecting another catchy musical
>It's fucking horrifying
Err, this game looks a lot scarier than the first 3. Those noises are very unpleasant.

Yes, it's worth playing. I played all of these when they came out and this is my 2nd favorite of the first 4. I liked the Walter Sullivan mystery, the tension of being chased by ghosts, and the haunting mechanic. There was some bad design and laughable moments (the enemies that belch when you hit them, and belch repeatedly as they slide down stairs), yeah. But it didn't detract much from my enjoyment. Also, this was always intended to be a SH game. Disregard anyone who says otherwise.

First part is kinda good. Then there is part 2 where you have to visit again the same areas but with more annoying enemies.
It's not a terrible game but... meh. Try it..
Walter is one of my favorite Silent Hill characters though.
And Eileen is top cute

>There was some bad design and laughable moments (the enemies that belch when you hit them, and belch repeatedly as they slide down stairs)
Oh crap, I forgot about that. I had some good laughs with this.

It wasn't originally meant to be a SH game hence why it's very different. It's just average. youtube.com/watch?v=DP_FPgb1eiU

Yes best game ever made

Why did the nurses burp? Especially when they slid down the staircases.

Just use a candle or two, mate.

I want to play Silent Hill but it truly seems too spooky for me and I tend to get too anxious with horror games, what do?

Because Akira Yamaoka is a fucking hack that sucks at music and sound design.

konami killed team silent because SH4 only did ok, while RE4 did amazing. so they scrapped the team and got some american devs to try to remake SH into a more action-oriented series.

>This worth playing?
100%.
Just make sure that you change the executable to "The Room" and, if you can, change the title screen as well so it leaves the "Silent Hill" part out as well. Then it becomes a much better game.
It's basically a game that combines many tropes of jap horror films with pretty creepy mechanics.

You could try not being a pussy. As far as horror games go SH isn't exactly at the top in regards to scariness.

Akira Yamoaka is not a hack
youtube.com/watch?v=rah74j6IX3k

>konami killed team silent because SH4 only did ok
No, Konami scrapped Team Silent because SH3 sold significantly less than SH2 and SH4 sold even less than SH3. Team Silent was killing the franchise with shit games nobody cared about.

I'm ok wtih the fact SH is done with. Things need to end otherwise they get ran into the ground until it's nothing but disappointment. SH1 to SH3 were all good games in their own right.

Just a dream, right?

>eeriest and creepiest game in the series
>is it worth playing?

SH3 was lazy fanservice crap. I hated that game. It was boring. SH4 was a clusterfuck of bad game design decision but at least they sort of tried to do something somewhat new.

is the weakest of the silent hill games.
keep in mind that THE silent hill games are only 1,2,3 and 4... every other game are fanfics at best.
is worth checking out, the parts in the apartment are pretty creepy

>every other game are fanfics at best
Fuck off with this bullshit. The western SH games aren't THAT bad and half the Jap SH games aren't even that good. The only "fanfic" shit in the franchise is SH3.

It's the best in the series.

Downpour wasn't the worst thing ever, but it certainly wasnt the best

no, you fuck off, if you think any of those fucking abomination of games have any idea what silent hill is about. for god sake the turn the piramid head into a fucking mascot in homecoming.
and keep in mind, im not talking about the quality of the graphics, gameplay or history. ) homecoming has an interesting premise )... im talking about how those games use the lore of the original silent hills. they just pick up the cool things without context and use them. just like that fucking horrible movie.

2 > 1 > 4 > 3

2 > 1 > 3 > 4

>for god sake the turn the piramid head into a fucking mascot in homecoming
Dude, that happened long before Homecoming. Why do you think they crammed him into the film adaption of the first game? He's not even a big thing in Homecoming. There's a couple of short appearances of him. He has no major relevance to the story. People just look for shit to whine about in the latter games just because MUH TEAM SILENT bullshit. They really aren't that bad.

1 > 2 > 4 > Shattered memories > 3 > origins > downpour > homecoming

Depends on what you consider to be scary, Silent Hill is very good at being unnerving and getting under your skin.

2 > 3 > 1 > 4

It's mostly fine on it's own merits. Originally it wasn't even supposed to be a silent hill

>He has no major relevance to the story
One of the endings consists in the MC literally turning into a PH, who do you think you're fooling. These games may not be "that bad" but they're not good either. I consider Shattered Memories to be the best of the western SHs and that's only because it was only relatively experimental one

4 was actually my first SH game, so I have a huge soft spot for it.
Compared to the other nip SH games; Music's about the same - all of them have a few standout tracks, Combat's much smoother, Puzzles are way easier, Level design is.. Okay at best.
The main difference for me was how hard 4 goes on the horror right from the first cutscene, shit gave me nightmares as a kid. It's not a slow atmospheric creepy like the others.
The safe zone ceasing to be safe also fucked me up

I heard Downpour is alright

You heard wrong

That's bullshit. Stop spreading that rumor. It was ALWAYS a Silent Hill game.

The game started development as Room 302, not being titled SH4, but was always meant to be related to Silent Hill. You know, a spinoff. For fucks sake, Walter is mentioned in SH2 and James' dad is the super.

>Originally it wasn't even supposed to be a silent hill
The people who made game have both stated it was supposed to be a SH game from the very start of development and that it wasn't supposed to be a SH game until after development had already begun. Who the fuck knows which is true

that's not entirely true, it's not like they switched it to being a silent hill game halfway through development, it was decided very early on that it would be SH4 instead of Room 302, but they kept the initial concepts they'd started with, deciding to make something entirely different after SH3. you're right about it starting as a separate game but i don't think that really influenced how it turned out.

The game was being worked on at the same time as SH3 by a good number of SH4 staff.

By a good number of SH2 staff even.

unceremoniously killing the protagonist of the first game off screen doesn't exactly strike me as fanservicey

oh yea those would have been tough to add in late in development.

But making another story around that stupid cult and their end of the world plot was. Some of the fans, i.e. retards, were very upset with SH2 not just not being a direct sequel to SH1 but also having almost nothing to do with SH1. Konami pandered to them. I don't know why people love that plot so much anyway. It's the plotline to half the fucking western fantasy RPGs out there. There's nothing special about it.

shattered, origins, downpour and homecoming are not silent hill games user.

>For fucks sake, Walter is mentioned in SH2 and James' dad is the super.
I'd say name changes are the things you can change very late into development of the game

Yes they are. Deal with it.

nop they are not.

Dunno why I like this song so much

Oh, you're one of those
