Fallout 3

Fallout 3 had a worse story but better writing, Fallout 4s world and NPCs dont feel like real people. Its not gritty enough. Half of humanity there seems to be super reasonable gentle people and the other half are sadistically cruel raiding sacks of shit with no limit, and theres nothing inbetween

They were both well written.

at least the enclave sort of made sense. What was the institute endgame?

pretty much, fallout 3 was far more memorable and at least it actually gave you options when dealing with quests

Except they werent, in virtually the only ways that matter, such as consistency. They bend the rules and history of their worlds, making choices redundant, consequences meaningless and the world feel fake and inreliable.

The institute just wanted to fart around with artificial people and synth gorillas, occasionally sending up some robots to kill some wastelanders
They have no clear end goal outside of fucking around

>better writing
The companions in 4 are better written than any character in 3, but that's not a high bar.

that was a rhetorical question, but that pretty much sums up what i thought.
The only good faction was the BoS, cause at least it felt they had a proper goal, philosophy and they actually bothered developing them from 3 instead of rehashing

They both weren't anything special story wise but Fallout 3's story despite being bad was fun
