I hate Sonic artists that think their entire lives revolve around their OCs and think they'll make big bucks off of it. No one cares about your OCs. They're stupid. Put your art to something useful like non-sonic original content.

I would put my writing skills into original fiction but I have trouble thinking up compelling characters on my own.

Speaking as a writer as well (comic writer), don't expect to come up with one overnight. It takes years to come up with even 1 character you would consider to be good.

Watch some movies and read some comics/books, find patterns ad characteristics you like, pull from multiple sources, and the more you do that, the more you'll find your character.

No, but the mindset of those artists is bad because they use Sonic as a crutch in their life and refuse to do anything else. I know one well known artist personally, who is like that. It annoys me so much.

When you put it in that way, then I can agree. So do I disapprove theses who practically depend their important matters such as profit on existent copyrighted property, in a way they lack intuition to come up new things instead in their own.

I can understand wanting to keep doing that stuff as well as their own thing because at the end of the day, they're fans too, but to make that your only thing that you do, baffles me. And to turn down literal paying opportunities (which yes, I did offer the artist guy I know and have 5 or 6 times since) doesn't make sense. I really helped the guy when he was going through stuff, but to then turn his back on me and my team because his Sonic art got popular... well I hope it doesn't bite him in the ass one day as bad as it probably will.

That's horseshit. Classic Sonic was firmly known as a "platformer with pinball physics" right up until SA1. It wasn't until then that Sonic began desperately trying to appeal to the current year's audience.

SA1 is a platformer with pinball physics, it's just that its level design doesn't focus on it. I don't know why you think having only Classic Sonic would mean good games, considering how he plays in the modern games. As for how many 3D Sonic games are good is debatable, though there's nothing inherently wrong with the Adventure play style. There have been fangames that have attempted emulating it such as Sonic GT and Project Hero which look alright, but these projects rarely ever get off the ground. Would be nice if there was the Mania treatment for 3D Sonic.
