Does that confirm the theory that the first pass character was going to be someone else but because of COVID-19 they had to change it to an ARMS character? It would explain why they went with such an odd first pick instead of something that would actually make people want to buy the pass.

Considering the choices where picked by Nintendo, and there's also been an update to ARMS, and this new NSO Trial, it seems likely Nintendo wanted an ARMS character as they may be planning a sequel or expansion and want more spotlight on the series.

Not in the slightest? This just confirms that some negotiations are harder because Covid. The first character being an ARMS rep, until stated otherwise, has likely been planned since they recorded the Byleth video at least, if not WAY before that.

It's probably more likely that they can't fully kick in the production of a third party character until their moveset, portrayal, and overall details have been finalised and approved by their publisher, at which point under three months seems like it'd be a real rush to get the character done.

I'm gonna wager there'll still be two or three third party picks but they might be relatively smaller in terms of fame. This second pass smells like a lighter budget to me and that even extends to licensing rights.
