The game is actually a sequel to Advent Children and an alternate timeline.
The Sephiroth in the game/trailers etc. is actually a future, time-traveller Sephiroth that wants to redo events from the original game, hence "Remake".
The "dementors" are Whispers of Fate that want to keep events as they went in the original and stop Sephiroth. This is why he fools the protags into thinking that they are evil they need to destroy. They do and final battle between Cloud and Sephiroth commences where retarded time fuckery happens like Zack surviving etc.
Basically it's not a remaster/remake of the original game but a sequel because retard Nomura couldn't endure not showing his retarded fanfic writing everywhere.
