As a long time Zelda fan I think this series is painfully overrated now. BotW was good but I'm personally not as jazzed about it as everyone else is.
The series fell off for me shortly after Wind Waker, as much as I love that game I wish it could have happened differently because it changed things forever.

What I enjoy a lot from Zelda is playing around with interesting mechanics each game introduces in the form of items, dungeons etc.
While the games themselves almost never stray away from the central focus of Link needing to gather some macguffins in order to stop the evil from taking over the realm, each installment has a setting that's intricately detailed with cool lore and is usually visually intriguing at the least.

The story has enough on the surface level that it feels substantial and like you've learned something intricate even when you haven't. But there's also just enough under the surface that it makes a great entry level "deep" fandom.
