The difference between DMC and FF is that DMC is a game that doesn't need to have a good story. It's famous for it's combat, not story. So DMC can have absolute shit for story, but it will be good as long as it is fun to play. In FF's case somewhat decent story and engaging characters are a must since combat isn't its strongest suit.

In the last hour, Sephiroth from an alternate timeline travels back in time and spoils the plot for all the characters, kills Barret only for him to be resurrected by Time Ghosts, the party then kills all the time ghosts then goes through a portal to fight One Winged Angel Sephiroth in a future timeline where he wins, he asks Cloud to join him, he refuses and they do the omnislash scene early, the party then leaves Midgar with knowledge of the plot and it's revealed killing the Time Ghosts somehow kept Zack from dying in an alternate timeline, but he's somehow aware of the characters in the Remake timeline.
