Was just about to make a Mega Man thread.
I started Mega Man 11 (again) after playing 1-6 (again) and it really is a great continuation of the series. The instrumentation is a little flat, but I used an 8-bit music mod and I really like the composition of the tracks.

it kinda saddens me that recent megaman soundtracks have a really pop/techno feel to them.

luv megan

First edgy opinion itt. Megaman x4 wasn't that great and ps1 fags overrate it.

I've never been a big fan of the megaman games, but I love the soundtracks.

What's weird is that, at their core, they are still just like classic chiptune arrangements. The composition remains largely the same, but, like you said, the instruments they chose to represent the compositions are pop/techno.
megan man loves you
I liked all X games as a kid/teen (barring X7). I love all Classic games, including R&F. It's a hard pill to swallow, but taken as a whole, Classic > X.

Nah. It used to be my favorite franchise of all time, but it's just too old to care about anymore. The music is still 10/10 though, much rather listen to the OST than play the games.

of course

Yes

X4 is comfort food vidya and really fucking good at being that. It's not like X1 is much harder.

fuck yeah I like mega man

>it's just too old to care about anymore
wat

Every sub series, yeah

Its one of Capcoms cringiest franchises so no.

Hell yeah I do

Seconding this. The fuck kind of smooth brain logic even is that?

You're one of Yas Forums's cringiest posters.

I couldn't get into Mega Man 11 for some reason. The gear system was kind of annoying and I didn't like the aesthetic that much. I should give it another shot, though.

Look everybody it's the robot master Cringe Man

11 takes getting used to because the stages are also long as fuck for a MM game.

>I should give it another shot, though.
You should. 11 is a top 3 Classic game.

Don't give him (you)s. The more you ignore him the better

Attached: 1563408260068.png (512x512, 74.58K)

silly Rock, robots can't be infected by fleshling diseases

Even edgier opinion: X is the worst of the platformer series.

11 is top tier just its weapon selection system, Rush shortcuts, and best set of boss weapons in the franchise.

Attached: 1568475490641.png (336x336, 6.07K)

Not that edgy (unless you're one of those "X1 GOOD REST BAD" Anons)

Attached: 1581700759400.png (599x670, 394.31K)

I liked Megaman 11 but I lost my will to play during Wily Stages. Nothing wrong with the game but I guess I don't enjoy the classic series formula as much as I used to. I'd die for a new entry to any other series except Legends

People in general prefer the easiest Megaman games in the series because they're easier to get into. That's why X1, X4, and Z3 are the most liked in their sub series. Increasing the difficulity like in X3, X5, X8, Z1 causes more people to dislike it.

Eeeeeeeeeeeh, Zero gets on my nerves with the ranking bullshit. But yeah, X is the least consistent for sure and was dragged on at least 3 games too long.

Sorry I'm just having a laugh about Cringe Man

I like shota, so yeah

X5 is the only Megaman game i've beat on hard mode because of how easy it is, what do you mean

Attached: 83975487_2488329261384479_6674110660923621376_o.jpg (502x514, 85.71K)

I have a love/hate relationshup with these games. I fucking hate the platforming, the spikes, the respawning enemies, and the spikes. Yet I can'tstop playing when I start them because I feel like it's beating me if I give up. It's like a test of my fortitude and I refuse to give in to it.

All of those have pretty claring flaws. X3 has copypaste level design, shitty capsule parts and borked damage output, X5 is mostly bland as hell outside of the things that break it like the Falcon Armor and dash cancelling (it also isn't a harder X by any means), half of X8's stages are too gimmicky (but the other half are quite good) and Z1 is both rough as hell and frequently disappointingly flat in its level design, it's pretty clear that it was Inti's first try and Z2 is a vastly superior game.

Replaying 9 recently made me realize what a rehash of 2 is. Also the insta-death spike spam in almost every level borders on absurdity. I really don't know what Inti Creates were thinking.

Once you get past the Classic series and the first half of Zero, you'll git enough levels of gud that the other games will seem like a joke to you

I'm more into bara

barafags wouldn't like this
they prefer men with tits and wide torsos
usually obese too

It only rehashes 2 in going back to the base moveset. The level design has way more inspired gimmicks like Galaxy Man's teleporters, Tornado Man's rotating platforms, and Jewel Man's swinging platforms. As for the instant death traps everywhere, acquire proficiency.

It was deliberately designed as a successor to 2, just without any of the jank that came with being a NES game.

It's probably the most difficult game in the franchise that isn't broken, but it's all the better for it.

I'm going through all the collections and Ill give some random thoughts

7 is very underrated, it's one of the most fun classic games to me. And going from 8 to 9/10 is rough, they feel like a step back. From now on I'm just going to play 9 and 10 after 2 or 3 and go from 8 to 11.

X6 is also underrated, it's got problems for sure but it's worth playing. The worst part is the entire magma stage, fuck the donut miniboss spam.

X8 really felt like a step in the right direction and had a lot going for it, too bad half the levels were autoscrolling shit and the other half were fairly gimmicky. I have no idea why they thought 4 autoscrolling stages was a good idea, it would have been perfect otherwise.

Ranking in the zero series is bullshit, especially 2. It sucks missing out on stuff because forms and ex skills are tied to rank, and it's infuriating getting 93 and still getting a B.

9 and 10 are my least favorite classic games t b h

>Teppen added a Sigma card in the newest set
>Sigma has Infinite Revenge, meaning he returns to your deck every time he dies
>If Revenge has activated 8 times in the same game, he gets a huge stat boost and bonus abilities
I love this shit.

BN/SF COLLECTION WHEN
AND LEGENDS

Even less than shoddy entries like 1 and 5?

Most of the praise I see for MM is usually just for X, specifically 1 and 4. Maybe a token nod to MM2, but it's generally considered outdated.

I wouldn't even call X1 the best X game.

for sure

They should make a new Battle Network.

>a collection for two games

MM2 was good for its time but it has some major issues that it gets the freest passes on like Boobeam Trap and Metal Blades being so fucked up. MM9 is MM2 if it was actually as good as everyone said it was.

I did acquire proficiency since I 100% it back in 2008 but replaying it now really drove home how hard it relies on spikes as a crutch for difficulty. I played older Mega Man games after that and they never had this amount of spikes. I can only think of Magma Man and Concrete Man as the only stages not reliant on spikes. Just feels cheap and ROM hack-y.

Legends has three games, Tron got her own spinoff. Of course none of these collections have had a spinoff in them yet sadly.

3. And they remaster them, mainly just the controls, pop in, and resolution.

Heh... I didn't understand this image until I said his name out loud

got ya covered

store.steampowered.com/app/960690/One_Step_From_Eden/

To each their own I suppose. I don't think they're even in the same realm, 9/10 absolutely blow those games the fuck out IMO.

Legends games aren't finished in an hour like the platformers are, they're basically Zelda games.

>MM9 is MM2 if it was actually as good as everyone said it was
No lies detected. Just describing my experience discussing the franchise.

>Replaying 9 recently made me realize what a rehash of 2 is
It sort of is in the sense that it pares back the moveset, but that's also why it's good. I've never liked the charge shot. Some of the minibosses and level design in 9 can get irritating in a way that Mega Man 2 never does, but it's a great game and easily my favorite of the series alongside MM2 itself and maybe MM4.

>Favorite Game

Go

There's two tiers to it

Normalfag, non fan tier:
>"MM2 BABY WILY CASTLE THEME YEAH ALSO X1"
>"YOOO SUPER FIGHTING ROBOT" MEGAMAN"
>THAT FUCKING FINAL SMASH DOG"
>"ZERO AHHHHHHH"

Normalfag fan tier:
>"7 is shit"
>"love X1, X2 and X4. Fuck the rest"
>"Departure BAYBEE"
>"Yeah uh ZX, horrible map"
>"Legends has SOUL. Wait what's a gameplay?"
>"BN COLLECTION NOW"
>"FUCK Starforce"

Otherwise there's tons of Megaman fans with tons of tastes

How do you even fix the controls? Might as well remake them.

Lol no

move with left stick, control camera/aim with right.

>but it's generally considered outdated.
By plebs.

Are spikes really less elegant than any other form of instant kill? Especially when most of the stages have more going on than just being covered in them.

And part of the reason the game is so good is because it's finally difficult enough to rival real run and guns like Contra and Metal Slug.

it is. people act like it's a 2 or 3 out of ten when it's more a 6/10 if you ignore the fire level.

how do you lads feel about smash's interpretation of Mega Man? as in, riding the the classic NES games real hard to the point of him pretty much being a 3D recreation of his classic sprite

Attached: 250px-Mega_Man_SSBU.png (250x250, 55.88K)

I dunno, I mostly remember 9's stages for the parts that aren't the spike traps. They're definitely there and some of them are obnoxious (the wall right before Jewel Man's miniboss was probably a bit much) but I don't mind spike traps so much and these stages do some really cool shit besides that which just make the other games seem primitive in comparison. I do think the first playthrough of 9 is rough but revisits are where it shines.

I disagree with one thing. I never see anyone talk about StarForce. Not even negativity, just silence.

indifferent

He needed to get people's powers after taking a stock off of them.

What's the issue with that? Mega Man is almost entirely defined by the NES, so it makes sense that his inclusion would ride on that history.

Kinda is. Game's a bit fucked but I'd rather replay it than X5 or X7. Other user's right, it's more like a 6/10.

I like his look here more than the model in 11. But 11's model is fine.

And if you ignore the nightmare effect and gate stage and gate boss fight and the story and the horrible balance

I love Megaman and has avidly played them all.

But I feel their gameplay style and loop is insanely flawed.

Mainly, almost all the danger the game pose in the game is the excessive hit stun Megaman/Zero gets and stumbling into a bottomless pit. There's hardly any variety as far as normal enemies go in the game since they all do the same schtick at you. And it makes no sense how they hurt you if they make physical contact. It's just something that stuck around since the 80s gaming and it just feels silly now.

What are some good fangames not named Megaman Unlimited or Megaman Rock n Roll?

>nightmare effect
only annoying one is the darkness which can easily be turned off by entering and exiting the laser whatever level.
>gate stage/boss
Not that hard, what do you mean

>And it makes no sense how they hurt you if they make physical contact
wow zoomer arguments are getting dumber by the day.

I don't see how any of that is more flawed than any other run and gun.

>it just feels silly now
Weird. I think it's much better design than the majority of games made nowadays.

Well, all the nightmare effects are annoying. I meant unbearable for darkness. They're stupid but only the darkness one is complete shit.

I still have a lot of fun with the franchise so it's not a big deal I guess. I just think there's still a lot of room for changes and experimenting with the formula.
