If it is due to dodgy compatibility you can try dgvoodoo. While it is known for its glide emulation recent versions have been offering support for old versions of directx that don't place too nicely anymore.

It is pretty good but i'm not overly familiar with the originals as I only rented them back in the day. I like the remakes well enough as they do seem to keep the charm the originals have.

I recently unlocked the final dungeon of Recettear, should I even bother with that? Seems to me like I just send a charachter to fight big level enemies in order to get big level equipment so I can make them fight bigger level enemies to get even bigger level equipment until there's no equipment left. I got the game because of the shop simulation, not this.
