I started watching youtube videos and did some reading on the internet and it looks like there are diminishing returns regarding the speed of solid state drives. Even an old 500MB/s stone age sata ssd is fast enough for any game and then the drive is no longer the bottleneck during loading.
But when the drive is no longer the bottleneck it turns out the the cpu speed becomes that bottleneck during loading and that when comparing systems with ssds but different cpus, the system with the faster cpu always has better loading times.
Since the PS5 is vastly outperformed by Xbox series X in regards to cpu speed, may it turn out that PS5 is going to have slower loading times than series x, even though it has the faster ssd? It seems to me, that the PS5s design is seriously flawed there.

Thats my thinking as well. They havent even shown any games actually running on ps5. I think that they are trying not have a real world comparison with the competition.
both next gen consoles supposedly use techniques which bypass most of the cpu processing with dedicated hardware for decompression (or that might just be for the xbox)

ftfy. How fast you can load a level really isn't the selling point, it's the kind of games you can design. Halo and Morrowind were literally only possible on xbox because it was the only console with a harddrive.
I don't give a shit about specs. I just want to know if digital games will be backwards compatible or if it's just discs.
The Xbox hard drive was 20x faster than the PS2 DVD drive. Even the DVD drive was a quarter faster. You're not looking at a gap like that this time.
Also the Xbox had 2x as much RAM, that counts for a lot.
holy fuck watch the fucking ps5 dev video, mark cenry clearly and I mean very clearly explains why an SSD on ps4 only means at most 2x loading screens and then goes on to explain how they address this on PS5 to allow the ps5 ssd to actually be used
also a hint, PS5 had dedicated silicon to handle mvoing the SSD data to RAM, the CPU doesn't have to do shit, they can literally use the data instantly due to the surrounding hardware they created for the SSD
they also added hardware decompression to decompress the ssd data in real time to allow 8-9GB/s of data in
So does the XSX.
