Can we have a comfy theme park game thread? What are you playing? Let's see that coaster you've been working on user.
Comfy coaster thread
Am I crazy for not liking Parkitect? I know its the closest thing to a true RCT sequel but for whatever reason I just can't click with it, and always end up back on RCT2
No, because I feel the same way. It just seems like an off brand RCT2, so I might as well play the soulfull original.
I enjoy Parkitect, but will never "replace" RCT2. I actually think the logistics stuff is a nice wrinkle on the gameplay loop.
I feel you
It is definitely a nice game and all, but RCT 1 and 2 just have such a nice looking artstyle and memorable sound design that it will always have a special place in my heart
And considering that OpenRCT is still actively being developed, it will also keep receiving updates
what is OpenRCT?
presumably FOSS port of RCT
by the OpenTTD team maybe? idk
Mod for RCT2. Adds some things, like online multiplayer. Look into it, it's good.
been playing planet coaster lately, the coaster design tools are pretty good, but it can be kind of unwieldy to get your tracks to look natural. RCT did a great job of this somehow even with very few options to choose from. RCT3 included.
That said, the logistics and decoration aspects of planet coaster are pretty complicated. A bit too much for me to just unwind after a busy day. You can turn the staff management stuff off, but the fact you have to individually design each building (like a proper theme park, I suppose) makes it a lot more work to have a decent looking plaza. Even the stations look terrible without any buildings around them, and they're far from standardized.
For me, its TTD
Some of the creations autists have made are incredible, but yeah it's way too complicated to consistently get your coasters to look natural and the theming can be a finnicky nightmare. Pic related is my shitty creation.
The customization is complicated and takes some getting used to, but I like the options. I'm a theme park buff and being able to really go all-out with the theming I want is awesome. I'm working on making my own version of EPCOT right now.
Based Sawyer and his assembly.
Post pics user I want to see that. For me, it's Spaceship Earth
PlanetCoaster is a great sandbox to make whatever you want, but I've never found it to be a complicated (or all that compelling) game. I'd say the management parts are actually pretty disappointing.
I actually think the restrictions of having a grid-like setup a la RCT/Parkitect makes a better game and helps me get the creative juices flowing more.
The scenarios were definitely the biggest letdown. And why in the FUCK did they think it was a good idea to have to micromanage your fucking stall workers? It's retarded beyond believe and drives me insane. That's why I usually just fuck around in sandbox mode building shit rides.
I saw some autist make what was basically a bigger spaceship earth with a coaster on the inside. Don't remember the workshop ID.
I suppose you're right, the logistics and management aren't actually all that compelling. I guess the right word is that they're not complicated, just not rewarding from the supposed amount of detail required.
I completely agree. I guess I'm a hard filtered brainlet but what can I say, grug like coasters, not CAD.
anyone has the "mr.bones ride" thread screenshot?
You can just Google that; it's literally the most popular image associated with RCT out there.
how are the scenarios in this game?
>see some guy’s planet coaster youtube channel
>he makes these fucking amazing parks with themed buildings that look like they’re straight outta disneyland or universal studios
>meanwhile I’m stuck trying to make my boring ass block buildings look nice with a few wall decals and some trees
How the fuck does he do it
CAD autism
Marcel Vos keeps breaking the record for the longest coaster every few months still btw
The current one takes over 400 real life years to ride
This is who I’m talking about btw
youtube.com
practice
Are you talking about Silvarret?
The guy is an actual architecture and urban design student who is also obsessed with coasters and has the proper autism to sink literally weeks, months and sometimes even years into just one project
Reminder that OpenRCT2, with working online multiplayer, is free for all to play at this very reminder
post link
I saw Varg playing this and I really wanna get into it. Is the Steam version the best one? Or are there better versions?
IT'S MISSING SOUL
RCT1 has a disgusting amount of soul. holy shit
there are some great creators out there. one I saw even modelled all the behind-the-scenes infrastructure stuff like loading bays and storage for his parks.
Nothing like putting your best to make the most amazing park, then killing everyone after they americlap for you
I love Marcel Vos. His unrelenting autism is something to marvel at. He's figured stuff out about the mechanics of the game I never would have realized in a million years.
Better than Planet Coaster's, but still not as soulfull as RCT/RCT2.
Ok, you fags got me wanting to play the originals again. What's the best version on steam? I'm not a piratefag
Some people took RCT 1 and 2 and crammed it full of quality of life updates. You need to have verified game files on your pc to run it, but it is a fantastic way to revisit the game.
I get multiplayer for TTD, I don't really see multiplayer for RCT. RCT is a lot more tractable and a lot more personal.
Qol? I thought it was just the multiplayer, what else did they add? now I'm more interested
RCT2 is the standard by which all others are judged.
How are Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo?
Well yeah, but I'm talking out of pic related what's the best edition
Again, RCT2. There's only one pack there that's RCT2, and it's got everything you need. I would recommend installing the OpenRCT2 engine over it if you're comfortable with that.
what he's saying is don't buy the "classic" repackaging and just get the 2+expansion packs
Bigger selection options for terraforming, random tree seeding, ability to unlock levels RCT1 style in RCT1. It's good shit.
Anyone got screenshots of things they've built, even if they're not all that great? I really enjoy seeing what regular players make in games instead of YouTube vloggers; it's usually a lot more interesting to see your workflow over someone who is trying to perform.
I had a ton on my old computer back when I used to hang out in the /vr/ct threads on /vr/. Those were some fun times.
I’ve tried to play Planet Coaster a few times. I don’t know what it is but I can’t really get into it. It’s clear that if you actually take the time to learn the UI and mechanics of it then you can craft some pretty nifty looking things in the sandbox that would blow RCT out of the water. I think part of me will always be more used to how RCT interfaced and worked. I can go into that game and create stuff in a fraction of the time.
Good taste user.
Splash Mountain is easily my favourite ride.
Better off getting the GOG version of RCT2 and use OpenRCT through that. Though, Steam RCT2 is also compatible with OpenRCT.
I was working on this and then got frustrated and gave up.
Check out Parkitect bro.
Looks like a good start! I sympathize; Planet Coaster takes a ton of time to get something good together, even if you know what you're doing. I ended up making a bunch of medieval village prefabs to try and streamline the process, but even that took a day or two to set up.
This is another one I made going for a Big Thunder Mountain rip off. I just can't get the level of detail right like the pros do, everything I make is just kind of shit.
>those triple-digit views
how did you even find this channel? i wanna know how to find more cool unknown channels like this
Probably tripped over a Twitch streamer and found their channel.
The PC devs shill him quite a lot, I think he's like the top contributor or something and leads a bunch of the community stuff. Though admittedly I don't really follow enough to know for sure.
For me, it's the People Mover
Hi Silvarette.
>mistaken for Silva
I'm honestly more flattered than anything else.
That screenshot looks almost same as what he did in this scenario playthrough.
I've sunk over 200 hours into planet coaster to realize that I've never actually built a park from scratch, just fucked around in campaign mode
So I decided to start simple and make a pirate themed park, which is coming along pretty slowly
If anyone wants it, I have a bunch of Yas Forums made scenarios from back in 2012 when RCT2 was flavor of the month due to Mr. Bones
drive.google.com
Also the original Mr. Bones save file
drive.google.com
Really? Got a link / screenshot?
looks pretty comfy, got any rides?
