I loved this and was always butthurt that .hack//G.U. wasn't available in Europe.

I'm butthurt that they decided to not release the original .hack games for PS4.

Seconded

I'm butthurt because of hemorrhoids.

I wish this series would come out as an actual MMO by Bandai Namco. There is a 2D indie version out there, but I want a real version that is 3D and exactly like this.

It's probably my favorite ironically offline MMO.

I wasn't interested in buying multiple games though, and they were hard to find anyway. I still have my copy of the first one, though.

Wait this this game really unknown? I know it doesnt get a lot of threads but it has a decent cult following

Most of Yas Forums knows about the .hack// series

It's one of those once popular now forgotten series. It's like how Galaxy Angel is in Japan. So it's fair to say a lot of people don't know now especially because Sao eclipsed it and dot hack became a relic of the 2000s. A fitting fate since the golden age of MMOs is over and past as well

.hack is not an unknown series

Literally everything made by the Love-de-Lic guys, and the companies they joined to down the line.

Moon RPG, Doshin the Giant, Chulip, Rule of Rose, Chibi Robo, Little King's Story, and more. They're not necessarily all amazing games, but they're certainly interesting, unique, and dare I say avant-garde.

There's literally tons of gems buried deep into the indie scene, but I think my favorite one has to be Monolith. A great, soulful as fuck game made by some fags from Yas Forums.

I love that game.

We /vr/ now?

I know it, and I'd rather not. IMOQ is fucking horrible. Everything relating to the gameplay at least.

I remember buying it all those years ago. Never finished it though. Got as far as my brainlet child self could.

This was the biggest issue, dragging across 4 titles that were fairly rare to get hold of in that era... mama mia.

Strangely, in one late night in 2017, I was in Shinsekai and my friend and I found a gacha machine with .//hack figures. He rolled Kite and gave it to some girl back here in the US.

There was one.

>pic unrelated

Don't be. The gameplay aged absolutely fucking horribly and is basically a menu-simulator. I love the games and remember them fondly for the story but holy fuck was it hard to go back and try to replay.
There was a JP onry MMO for a few years. I'm sure there's a fan server out there somewhere still open. If fucking trash ass SMT online has one, I'm sure .hack has one.

It's a shame the developers are now defunct.

I mean, really? This was an incredible grindfest. GU was a lot better, but only one of the two Heavy Blade variants was usable (the 'thrust and hit X' one was shit) and Vol. 3 was rushed as hell.

I don't really get why people remember .hack fondly. It was an obtuse, grindy kind of clusterfuck. I'm actually not surprised that SAO nuked it, more than ten years later.

Phantom Dust. The story mode was pretty decent and the multiplayer was great. It's a shame it never really took off even after the remaster.

I loved this game as a kid
It felt so big and infinite
I’ll never forget playing through
the first level and forgetting to save
Then having to replay the tutorial level
The music was great and I still get auras theme stuck in my head every so often
I did not know anything about the show so it felt really mysterious expecially hidden forbidden holy ground
I liked the main menu web articles and the message board feature it really felt like a mmo to my 10 year old self expecially since my brother played mmos that I was only allowed to watch
I really enjoyed these games and I wish they would make a hd remaster of the original 4

Very autistic post, but I agree playing this game for the first time had this very real aura of mystery that you rarely get in games. The anime had that feeling too.

It had a lot of concepts/gimmicks that seemed rad at the time. Bundling tie-in anime discs with the games or splitting the games into 4 "whole games" where you can carry everything across each one. And MMOs and talking on the internet with random fags in a game over the internet was still kind of magical back then so pretending to be an MMO in a not-MMO console game was kind of interesting.

Too bad the fourth game was always so fucking expensive I never finished IMOQ.

Same, i was so mad at the time for that.
At least we got the remaster on almost every paltform on the market now, better late than never.

that's not how you do haikus lol

It’s not that autistic, I did not have many games as a kid it was one of the Only rpgs I had as a kid. I certainly played this before I played any of the final fantasy games besides tactics
The game certainly has issues and I know I am looking through rose tinted glasses I enjoyed the game though

what are
you doing
retard

This. Everyone on this site knows about .hack.

I thought dothack and nethack were the same for like 10 years

Is this the thread for forgotten franchises that used to be household names?

Attached: Wing Commander.jpg (1600x900, 242.71K)

>read me now
no

EA keeps giving it out for free.

Remake when?

hopefully never

water capital theme was good, that acoustic guitar with chorus effect, nice

You're not alone friend, still one of the best series of all time for me. I used to be part of a ,hack discord server as well with some fans who used to play .Fragment together every Friday, not sure if it's still around or not.

Same, I would love a remaster.

I played it recently and while the controls were annoying at first it just reminded me of simpler times where things weren't so polished and things were rough around the edges but they tried their best. It's a warm and nostalgic feeling.

Nobody knew about it for a good chunk of time, I think I would post an occasional .hack thread every now and then in 2015/16 and get maybe like 7 replies but one thread got really popular a few years back and there was a new .hack thread a lot more frequently for a while.

It's something that fades in and out of consciousness and considering it's an oldish game I suspect there's a lot of newfags that don't know about it.

man I loved that game
I need to get a ps2 emulator so I can play them all again and xenosaga

>tfw all the games could've fit on one disc put they decided to go mass jew with the OVAs as a sweetener
I don't know why I liked .hack in my highschool days, wasted my money on these games when there was so much better PS2 games. Yes I know these games are rare now.

.hack isn't that big now, but it's pretty well known, just doesn't garner attention.
The games are also notoriously expensive for collectors.

Lots of people know about .hack, though.

I really never met someone who had played this gem

Attached: images (17).jpg (298x400, 25.78K)

I wish we got the shitty mmo they made

>posts game everyone knows about

try again tomorrow

We did. It was called Fragment.

it didn't come out here though.

not him but you can play it right now if you want to

It was a mediocre kart racer for its time, and it was a spin-off of a spin-off. I had never played a FF game as a kid, and I never would (because my mom didn't know what memory cards were). I could beat this game in an hour, so I replayed it over and over.
Systems-wise it wasn't unique in the slightest, and stole basically everything it had from DKR. That being said, it had a charming story mode, a broken-ass custom character maker, and there was actually a learning curve despite its simplistic design (if you don't believe me, tell a newbie to get a S in Story Mode and you'll see.) It didn't do anything new, but it did what it did well.
There was a rumored remake for the 3DS but it's dead and I curse God every day for that fact. Damn you Square Enix.

also listen to this ending theme god DAMN

can someone recommend an RPG playable on PS4 (could be older gen titles) that gives off trigun-esque vibes? like, desert cowboy/industrial setting.

forgot about this game. based af

>Oh yes yes! I love buying the same games all over again as many times my Snoy overlords demand it!
>Backwards compatibility with 4K resolution, 60 FPS and other en enhancements????? Oh no no no no! MOOOOODDDDDDSSSSS!!!
Kek

I have

It was good

Cute and great game.

Really cool atmosphere and setting but I don't know what they were thinking gameplay wise

Wild Arms series sounds like what you're looking for, they're a sci fi western series.

I loved that game. A shame the controlls are so shit.

Attached: SRTOGS.jpg (325x292, 58.04K)

I remember having nightmares after playing this back in ps2 era in a weird gray city

just checked it and yes, this is the vibe that i am looking for. i really appreciate it.

for reference, the setting to parasite eve 2 also was to my liking.

got anything else?

Attached: off.jpg (1181x1748, 277.51K)

I really have the urge to play this again but I can't remember why I got pissed off with it.

fragment.dothackers.org/
Here you go my dude

Xenogears is relatively well known now, but not enough people have actually played it desu

Attached: 1539289665987.jpg (2000x1236, 757.1K)

Slow to play, dungeon crawl can be a slog, it's story isn't for everyone and needs some background from a guide or manga or something never translated in English and other shit. Even with all that, I dig the fuck out of it. Great OST too
youtube.com/watch?v=5jEVxdm4EGM&t=

WELL, JUDGING BY THIS THREAD, NOT JUST YOU, EH OP?
HAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

A lot of anons have told me to play it saying the story is really good but it looks pretty run of the mill, is the story actually good?

Metal Max is basically a comical post apocalyptic rpg, though I'm not sure how available any games are on ps4. Metal Max Returns on snes and Metal Saga on ps2 are both excellent.

AVOID the ps4/vita game, Metal Max Xeno. It is abysmal and an insult to the series name.

Play Breath of Fire IV.

Attached: Fishing.gif (640x480, 612.19K)

lol

i'll check these titles out as well. once again, thanks. finally have some time to play games due to corona so, this is a nice addition to the list.

Metal Max has a great sense of humor and style. It's a reason Xeno is such a disappointment, all the humor and style is gone.

Happy to help, hope you enjoy them user.

I saw this screenshot a few years ago and someone told me it was Grandia. I played that and it's now one of my favorites. Seeing this again is a very weird feeling.

maybe

imagine a 32-bit remake of wizardry with canvas tier portraits fully animated with bits & boops

Attached: 8-18-17 Bane of the Cosmic Forge.png (956x1481, 328.38K)

I-ninja
It was gifted to me and I never heard of it even though I was obsessed with games at the time and unexpectedly loved it and 100%'d it

Also had a lot of multiplayer fun with Fuzion Frenzy and Kung Fu Chaos with friends even though we always only did the same 2 minigames lol
