Sonic is much better. It really captured that "Sonic" feel. Specially Robotinik. I'm pretty sure Jim Carrey some of the comics and played the games. He really got Robotinik.

Hopefully Carrey can keep up the Pollock voice in the long-term if they do a sequel. He nails it so fucking hard at the end it's ridiculous.

The story is boring and predictable, the world itself is interesting and fun. I enjoyed it just for the visuals alone. They should have just done a pokemon trainer red movie though.

I quite liked Detective Pikachu, they did a downright fantastic job at making a Pokemon-filled world and while the narrative was predictable it did its job well. The biggest issue was that they were fairly limited on the amount of Pokemon they could model for the film, which becomes VERY apparent in the film's climax where they try to use every single one they made.

Sonic's loneliness issues make way, way more sense with how it is in the movie proper. He had to grow up for years completely alone only watching others from a distance. If Longclaw had been with him it would not be nearly as believable for him to have a loneliness outburst or for him to act like he does towards people in the movie in general.
