Serious question: Would low sales mean they'll rethink what makes a One Piece game good and do better in the future? Or will they put even less money and effort into future releases because they'll think there's less interest?

One Piece is finally starting to lose some of its grip in Japan, people are sick of it going on forever and the merch/games being trash.

Shame, wano arc is hype but even though PW is fun the series is def stale. Last arc was Dressrosa and this new game is just one and a half arcs ahead

Imagine PW4 but in like 3 years when we are an arc or two ahead and have way more content to drop in.

Let's be honest here. If they don't license out to a borderline decent developer like Dimps or Arcsys or work on something they greatly respect and have passion for like Smash Bros, Namco Bandai just make really shitty low effort games.
The general trend is getting worse over time. It does not surprise me this flopped when you look at how awful the Jump game was with like it's magical yeeting Frieza.

I'd love a game that only brushes by the main cast where you play as someone else entirely. Maybe even playing as a marine fighting the bad type of pirate. Fuck, now I kind of want to play One Piece based tabletop with fruits and everything.

The answer is Bandai. All of their first / second party titles look like they're from early PS3 in some areas, and mid PS2 in others.
