Outward DLC just got announced. Apparently it sold enough to get more content. Anyone hyped? I really liked the vanilla game, it was super comfy.

i enjoyed outward too op, so here's a bump
im pretty hyped. how does the dlc look?
how did that clunky piece of shit sell enough to get an expansion dlc?
There's a trailer. New region which should be really hard, so more stuff to do in the late game I guess. Gauntlet weapon, not sure how it'll feel with the clunky combat but looks pretty dope.
Just watched the video, seems to contain a lot of stuff the game needs.
Having to walk from area to area will probably still be tiresome.
The rest of the game seemed fine but the combat was so jank I dropped the game entirely after a few hours.
This is the first time I hear of this game, lol.
by being fun?
It's really underrated but it's a good game. Combat sure is clunky but mostly because people try to play it as Souls. Once it clicks it's pretty good, you have lots of options and a lot of neat stuff like rune magic.
The OST is surprisingly great too.

Redpill me on this game. I'm dying for a good co-op game that's focused on exploration. I watched streams when it came out but it looked unfinished, was I WRONG?
Fun to play with gf, there's not many games like this with complete (sort've) co-op functionality.
Yes, it's finished and has quite a lot of content. The exploration and survival is the core of the game so it's pretty much a perfect game for this. The initial combat feel is what put a lot of people off but you just have to give it a chance.
If you're the type to tolerate or *gasp* even enjoy games like Risen/Gothic, this will be your jam
outward is and will always be a massive pile of fucking shit
good music though i guess, but so repetitive its like playing divinity original sin 2 only without the fun of fucking with your friends
Don't fall for the hype guys, the game is so jank its not even playable, its on unity too so everything is unoptimized and looks like shit.
It has some cool ideas, but how anyone can force themselves to play this schlock of a game when Gothic exists is beyond me.
its fucking awful
go to steam and read negative reviews
find the earliest ones you can
they'll tell you everything
>but so repetitive its like playing divinity original sin 2 only without the fun of fucking with your friends
you condemn yourself with your own post
>survival is the core of the game
And can be completely ignored within 10 minutes of playthrough
I don't know, I got a lot of interesting death scenarios rather deep into the game. Like when bugs bring you into their hive and you have to fight your way to the exit (or maybe attempt to kill them all?). Of course once you know everything it'll be way easier but initially it's very intimidating.
i hate both games but at least in dos2 i could fill my friends inventories with oil barrels while they were in combat so they couldn't move
If it wasn't filled with shit like pic related it might have been interesting
Instead its a slog with awful co-op where additional players function like mercenaries for no benefit and skills that aren't magic suck
Where damage feedback is minimal and even wearing top armour you'll die in two hits
You can miss huge chunks of the story by simply dying mid-quest and the quest will just complete for you
Get KOd during the final battle and then you wake up to find its over you won
Thanks hero you're the best bye
What's wrong with food system though?
Outward is just fucking bad
>the survival aspect of the game is laughable, almost everything can be ignore pretty quickly
>no way to travel faster than walking, do when a quest ask you do to back and forth between regions, it's just annoying
>only 4 regions that you can cross in about 5 minutes
>lot of copypasted dungeons
>regions reset after a week, if you get knocked out between that period, say goodbye to your shit
>melee combat is just terrible, very little damage, stamina regen is extremely weak even with every single stamina booster available, armor is completely useless, heavy armor pretty much just save you from one more hit
>can't use magic in solo
>bows and traps are OP as fuck because the AI is retarded
>world is lifeless
>extremely limited inventory space just for the sake of being tedious
>what the fuck is that ending?!
But hey, let's give the good points
>some good musics
>the few unique locations are nice to explore, sucks that many of them are so small tho
>the gimmick to get mana is good, you need to sacrifice health and stamina to gain mana
>nice with a friend
>additional players function like mercenaries for no benefit
Can you elaborate on this?
This game was shilled to hell and back on Yas Forums for a time, then all threads mysteriously vanished a week or so after release. Wouldn't be surprised if this pattern repeats itself.
Everyone, even the people who enjoy this game, agree that the combat is total jank. Frankly I think most of the game mechanics in general are terrible. The only redeeming factor is the "comfy" exploration which is highly subjective. That together with the coop seems to be the main thing this game has going for it. Everything else is dogshit.
>regions reset after a week, if you get knocked out between that period, say goodbye to your shit
That's not true, it resets after a week of you being in another region.
got it months ago played 2 days before i got distracted by another game
but do shops change during gameplay or are they locked in that playthru?
i started the game fucked something up and restarted and the shop in my second try had different items :(
also had torches become useless in the first couple hours since the nearby cave had a magic user that had a staff that glows like a torch
Here, when I said the music was a good point:
youtube.com
I was actually pumped from exploring the region, the annoying part is the music cutting off because they put some faggot wildlife in the middle of the path.
refunded this after the people I played with spent more time in town than doing anything else
I love Outward but the character models are absolutely some of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Jesus fucking christ, you all meme about "abominacions" but these are real fucking abominations.
And this is *AFTER* they updated the models too, so it was bad before, and it's just as bad now.
You use lantern most of the time, torches aren't very usable. Also, what shops are you talking about? I think there's a traveling merchant that can have a different stock but shops in cities should have same items.
>when Gothic exists
because gothic is over 15 years old and not that replayable.
>lot of copypasted dungeons
wich ones? so far every bandit town and cave I have enter are different
>can't use magic in solo
thats just a blalant lie
>regions reset after a week, if you get knocked out between that period, say goodbye to your shit
your bag gets sent back with you if you get knocked out
>stamina regen is extremely weak even with every single stamina booster available
consumables are there for a reason
>extremely limited inventory space just for the sake of being tedious
get better backpacks
>no way to travel faster than walking, do when a quest ask you do to back and forth between regions, it's just annoying
you can run, and for pretty long time with food but agree, mounts would really help
>you can cross in about 5 minutes
I fucking wish it took only 5 minutes to get from the desert city back to the starting city
You gotta wonder why everyone in this game is in their 40s, whoever made the faces don't understand that there such a thing as too much details on a human face.
there was a vendor(idr if it was a traveling merchant)
who had a nice wizard hat in my first file and he didnt have it in my second try in the town you start in
I'm 2 hours in, finally leaving the first town. I want to join the faction the cyborg guy was shilling and the journey seems incredibly daunting but I'm excited.
overworld and dungeons reset after 7 days if you do go out of the city, if anything thats how you reset it if you run out of enemies and collectables
I've been waiting to get back into this game. Friend and I co-op'd some of the content but most of it was done solo. Was some sort of rune mage with specialties in wind magic. I was able to solo the two optional superbosses by myself, but this might have been before they buffed them. By the end of the game I was basically casting for no mana thanks to gear.
Neat. Might as well wait for it then before continuing.
>have enough time to make an new zone and new faction
>didn't bother fixing the absolute shit tier melee combat
everything else about the game was decent but christ hitting enemies like 10 times and them not even flinching while you get hit once and you're crippled was the dumbest shit ever
First journey to Levant was probably my most exciting expirience in this game, so much shit happened along the way but in the end I got some super powerful fire club which carried me for quite some time.
don't join a faction till you get good gear if you want to save the first town, it gets destroyed after a while if you do and don't come back to complete the quest
unless they fixed the combat I'm not interested in more mega-jank, thanks
>comfy
>wich ones? so far every bandit town and cave I have enter are different
A lot of dungeons just re-use corridors, I did all the dungeons from the desert region and many of them are just caves using the same preset corridors
>thats just a blalant lie
Last time I played, you couldn't cast anything because it took fucking forever
>your bag gets sent back with you if you get knocked out
At least that's something good
>consumables are there for a reason
re-read my sentence. Even with all the consumables it takes a really long time to gain back stamina.
>get better backpacks
Still not an excuse for this obnoxious system, specially since tho bypass it, you pretty much just carry healing and water, and just go back repeatedly in the city that is never that far away
>I fucking wish it took only 5 minutes to get from the desert city back to the starting city
It was an exageration, it's like the maps are too small to have much locations to explore and too big to cross, they someone managed to find the perfect size to be annoying and disappointing at the same time.
And somehow Gothic still has better gameplay than whatever autistic MMO clusterfuck they were going for with this game
>not that replayable
Neither are 99% of videogames after you finish them
I don't get whats wrong with the combat, you have iframes in your rolls, and it gets better once you get skills from that monk/warrior tree
only wish you could cancel attacks somehow, like rolling
The combat isn't bad. You just have to learn how it works.
Most people thought they could just walk up to enemies and mash the attack button, so they got wrecked.
You have to learn attack patterns and stun lock enemies with impact. Most enemies can be killed without taking hits if you know how.
The actual problem with Outward is that it's tedious and repetitive.
Not co-op either, to my knowledge.
All shops change over time, but some of them will always offer certain items.
Honestly it just suck that the town is the only settlement there, really make saving them mandatory if you don't want to have to cross an entire region everytime.
In my opinion, after threatening and racketeering me at the beginning of the game, they can go get pillaged, raped, and burned for all I care, I'm not here to do the guards job.
>Thanks hero you're the best bye
Did you not read the Steam page?
>You are not a god, nor a chosen one.
>You have to learn attack patterns and stun lock enemies with impact. Most enemies can be killed without taking hits if you know how.
And also have to run around your opponent for 15 minutes while your stamina regen so you can go back to actually fighting for 10 seconds.
Any recommendations as to where I should try going to first then? The only guidance I've been given is that I should join a faction
granted Im just in the first zone, but picking bandit groups from away worked to not fight multiple enemies at the same time, and for the shrimp/mantis/wendigo/robot chickens after learning their attack pattern they are easy
Drink water. Carry like 3 waterskins on you and keep the water buff up at all time.
Outward isn't necessarily co-op.
you underestimate the market for "skyrim-like", retards love buying that nobrain crap
>you can join as a new character or a character with hundreds of hours of playtime from their own world
>you get nothing from completed quests, the host does, no money, no free skills, no XP
>you can't save any progress except character stat changes
>if you bring your top gear into someone elses session, and die and lose it, you can't get it back
>game is backpack focused with your equipment and dying removes your backpack usually, which can get lost or the host can take it
>you can't accept quests or do anything meaningful in the world except kill shit
>you both need to be together to enter dungeons, transition between maps, there' no icon where you are on the map or compass so you better stick together or know where the exit is the other player is trying to use
>getting killed while another player is alive stops you from respawning, you just lie there forever waiting to be revived or for the other player to die too
>players have to sleep at the same time to rest, forced to allocate hours correctly and identically so if you're starving when someone else is trying to sleep for 12 hours to heal, you're fucked when you wake up
>more players means higher chance of being ambushed when resting since the chance is counted separately, though this can be mitigated
and so on
think of it like fable 2 only you use your main character i guess, only the hero can't leave unless you're within dick sucking range at all times and there's no icons to show where they are
>You are not a god, nor a chosen one.
And apparently you have a weak heart and asthma because even 50 hours into the game your character still can't run for shit.
Once you get some decent gear just go to one of the other regions and join the faction. This will advance the story and you'll also get a house in that town.
What does that even mean?
If anything, it's the opposite of Skyrim. Game is really punishing and doesn't hold your hand at all. You can get permafucked by some stuff like losing a town with all your stash if you won't be fast enough to deal with bandits.
>or the host can take it
what kind of friends do you have bro
Stamina isn't a problem as long as you keep your health/stamina regen buffs active by eating food and drinking water once in a while.
>lmao just learn attack patterns and dodge bro
The movement is way too jank and unresponsive for that.
You don't have to play co-op and it might not even be desirable.
you're supposed to just freeroam without joining anyone after that
just visit each city and check the trainers and stores, set up those seed tents inside the cities since they offer the same benefit as the bed at your house and whatever you drop inside a city don't disapear ever, but don't talk to the chief/paladin daughter/cyborg guy till you are ready to join
All those problems reminds me of when the devs said they didn't want to add more content to the PC version because they didn't want to gimp the console players. Literally all those problems are the ones you'd find in a local co-op game.
I don't have any problems with movement or dodging attacks. Maybe you just need to git gud.
>you get nothing from completed quests, the host does, no money, no free skills, no XP
So is there a way for the second player to level up at all if both players are new characters? Also, can you trade money or items with each other?
yeah the designs were alright
that one desert city was pretty fucking beautiful
had really great glass
armour was nice, that one early game set you can make that glows blue at night was cool
plus the one shilled spot in the first zone, the magic mountain with the shimmering blue / pink / purple grass was nice i guess
if they tightened it up gave it less clunky controls removed a lot of the fuck and established better mechanical world design so you don't feel like the only fucking person in the world doing anything at all, it could be pretty good
Interestingly, a lot of enemies attacks have a massive blind spot on their right, you can just run around them to stay in their right and they'll never manage to hit you, it's fucking retarded.
Co-op is always desirable. If the co-op is shit then the whole game is shit imo. Also, if a game doesn't have co-op at all, that's a problem. Sounds like neither game is for me honestly.
For me - it's Monsoon.
youtube.com
>and established better mechanical world design so you don't feel like the only fucking person in the world doing anything at all
Never happening, they said it would be unfair for people who bought the game on console.
Maybe you need to stop lying.
There's no XP in Outward, you don't levelup. Your power is your skills and gear. You can get both via coop just fine.
its not that it did happen, its that it could
my backpack with all my loot fell through the floor on more than one occasion or simply wasn't where the marker said it was except for the host
so the host could loot your shit and claim they didn't see the backpack
imagine joining some random fag and this happening and they take all your gold or something i dunno
I really like Outward but I have to admit the soundtrack is arguably it's strongest point. It's so fucking good.
you trade by dropping stuff on the floor unelss they added a trade system
they may have fixed the quest shit not awarding you stuff too
theres an early quest where you need to prove you can fight before leaving the training town then the guy trains you a basic skill for your weapon of choice, plus gives you a shit weapon
when i played, the host got both skills and both weapons plus the xp when i spoke to him as the co-op guy
this happened repeatedly during quests too even when training
it was probably a bug but it still felt shitty
try the outsouls mod. it adds a bunch of shit you can turn off, but the main thing I use it for is the ability to block/dodge out of attack animations so you're not completely fucked by the janky end-of-swing delay if you fall just short of staggering the enemy
Right, playing with friends will make any game fun because you can always joke with your friend but in the end if you're going out to play a roleplaying/exploration experience is a friend really what you want? Do you really want some fuck trying to catch you with clever gags and jokes about every little thing when you want to explore and maybe use your intellect?
And if you do have a friend who you share your intellect with, great, but you're so far in the minority you barely matter on this point, fuck you.
i'm not a mustard but fuck consoles for this shit
the same thing happned to dos2, they moved it to consoles with DE and downgraded all of the surface effects, especially cursed shit which used to write with worms and evil 3D looking textures but now even on PC are flat as fuck with only a few tendrils in it
Yeah, they got really lucky with composer. Most of the tracks are really nice and it's cool how there's different version for day and night.
So that guy was talking shit? That doesn't sound bad then.
Who tf plays co-op games with randoms?
>if you're going out to play a roleplaying/exploration experience is a friend really what you want?
Yes. You make it sound like that's somehow a bad thing. Never play D&D with a solid group before?
>avatarfagging on Yas Forums
>Co-op is always desirable.
outward sucks, but you're still a faggot
mods fix most of these problems
