I'm actually enjoying the multiplayer quite a bit. the core gameplay/combat is really fun but you are right there needs to be additonal siege maps.

No, start with Warband. Has tons of mods with different settings, good multiplayer, better performance and is overall more functioning.

As good as any if you can run it properly. You need some beefy hardware to run 500 vs 500 battles.

Not sure, but 6c/6t should help. At the very least you'll be able to run 250vs250 smoothly. Assuming you won't crash right after starting the game.

Single player is still kicking my ass, but I can't get enough of multiplayer

but arrows actually bouce off with enough armor

Hold archers infront of infantry, if enemies approach, tell infantry to charge.
You can reposition units by pressing f1 once to bring up the menu, then hold f1. You will see a flag, that flag is where the units will hold next.
This way you don't have to move away to tell units where to go.
Native Warband combat is extremely simple because of the lack of complex formations some other modules introduce. If you want to succeed, put points into your personal combat skills so you won't die in one hit, and do most of the battle yourself.

The combat and sieges are more fun (Provided little/no bugs) and in some ways more fun than Mount and Blade original. But everything else still needs a lot of improvement and a lot of detail is missing. Don't except anything but an unfinished product.
