Not too many people talk about System Shock 1, and that's too bad. I played it for the first time, and after setting up the controls to what I like, it was quite intuitive

Level design of 1 is by far the best and most beloved part of the entire franchise

A majority of Bioshock is Jack getting sidetracked. Cant just go to Neptunes Bounty, gotta get sidetracked and do dumb shit. Cant just have all of the Big Daddy suit in one place, the boots gotta be misplaced. All of Fort Frolic only happens because Cohen side tracks you. It feels like padding, but the combat isn't strong enough to carry it.

I was about to argue but I realized what you meant by level design, and I agree. Every new area showed a new side of Rapture and expanded on how the city was able to function. I'm not sure why but 2 just didn't have the same worldbuilding in its level design. Wasn't as immersive.

Bioshock 1 is mediocre at best and all of the good parts are just direct ripoffs of SS2. Bioshock 2 is just a rehash of a rehash with minor remixing. Prey is the actual SS2 successor.

For the most part I like 1 better. I think 2 made some neat QoL changes but why have me play as a Big Daddy if a Splicer with a pipe is a legitimate threat to my life? I wasn't super invested in the story either. Also I don't think they did enough to build on the plasmids introduced in 1.

That I agree. I think puzzle solving with plasmids would have been a really interesting addition(For example, using cyclone trap to move across terrain). I feel as if, even though they refined what was already there, they didn't actualy intoduce enough new content. Although, one thing 2 does better than 1 is the camera. Having to perform "Combos" on splicers is way more interesting than just doing some random shenaenigan and taking a picture.

I did replay Bio 1 and 2 and yeah. 1 was good until after the Ryan scene, then like always it just kinda flumps down. And 2 is just eh, I didn't want to do more slogging.

I love Bioshock 1, it's still a game that means alot to me in terms of my history as a gamer and how it's shaped my tastes long ago. But it's aging more poorly as times goes on.
