Nah, cable television has done a good job at desensitizing people to torture and murder.
It's tasteless to show rape because sexual acts are still indecent, and having somebody cry out in pain and begging for it to stop just makes the audience uncomfortable, and most creators don't want to do that.
Most of the time, it isn't handled well either. Best portrayal of rape in vidya is probably Angela from Silent Hill 2, and even then, it's only implied she was raped.
