You only need the basegame, but addons add furniture and stuff that might be used with some animations. Like if you don't have the pets addon, you obviously can't fuck dogs.

You're better off getting everything yourself, because mod compilations can be a nightmare. I got one at the start, but it was clothing, hair and shit that didn't fit in with the rest of the game at all. It was awful. Also there are performance issues apparently if you use more than 20.000 sex animations.
