Zero/Azure are set in Crossbell.
Cold Steel are set in Erebonia.
They have a big ongoing storyline so you're expected to play all the games in the series starting from Trails in the Sky, characters from previous arcs even show up in the later ones combining their forces to combat the growing Illuminati threat.

Sky FC on PSP bombed and put its sequel on the back burner for years. Cold steel, on the other hand, came out right when it needed to and drastically increased the series popularity in the west thanks to strong Vita version sales.

They poached most of XSNEED's staff from Sky games for CS actually so CS3 translation is on the same level as XSNEED's Sky games.

He never said that. He did mention that these games were never released in the West in one of his interviews, but he did not say that they made Kai versions for the West. Just like any other games, they are made for Japs, the West never brings them more than 15% of profit.

Obviously Japan is still the main target audience, but logistically the main reason why that remaster happened is because they want it out in the west.

It wasn't that many of them, honestly. Most of XSeed's Trails staff moved on to other companies long before NISA got Trails to begin with.

They just got re-released on PS4 in Japan, and I don't remember where I read this, but I recall Falcom stating that one of the multiple reasons they ported them was that having them on current gen consoles it would increase the chance they could be brought over to the west. I will not give up hope.
