Lockdown Day 3(?) Edition. Things seem to be back to normal now, so I don't see why we shouldn't have another one of these.
Usually, the FFXII user makes these threads, but since he seems to have vanished, it's fair enough to honor him with some XII artwork. I guess.
What are YOU playan / grindan these days, Yas Forums?

Say what you will about FFXII but its art is legendary. Makes me wish for another FF set in Ivalice. It doesn't even have to be FF, it can be a new series like Vagrant Story should have been one.
Played FF9 as a kid 20 years ago and loved it, but never got past disc 1 because disc 2 was fucked for some reason. Bought it today and did that AI background art update. My god it looks amazing.
There is some artifact because of the AI upscale but it does still look great
My FFVII is arriving tomorrow so I'll play that
Am I crazy but if i remember, wasn't 9 pretty damn hard at the start? I just lost to some of the plant monsters that chase you in the forest because their thunder 1 shotted every one in my party
I only ever tried FF9's intro back when I was a kid and loved the aesthetic, but didn't really go through it again after that. Is it still worth a try, gameplay-wise?
so far i think its peak ff combat and you get a full party pretty much off the start vs FF7 which takes a while. The AI mod makes the art style look 10 times more amazing than what it did on the ps1
I don't remember it ever being the case. I remember the boss could prove a challenge if you didn't know what you are doing but that's it.
You have a link?
Halfway through Cold Steel 4. Want to finish it this week, but I kinda doubt I'll make it.
What are the remaster/PC versions of FF7 like? Got my original PS1 version lying about but wondering if the newer versions are worth looking at
what's a game like ffxii? I specifically said ffxii not any ff and no not a mmorpg you are not funny
The most optimal way would be the PS1 version with a retranslation patch
>Install this
>Play
>Went from 8/10
>To 9/10
>By the time I finish it will be a 10/10
>Amazing OST
>Enjoyable characters
>Fun as fuck combat
>Progression feels natural
How the fuck is a JRPG with a low budge like Ys so much better than FF? Where the FUCK is all that money going? It's a fucking SHAME that FF is garbage now.
FFXIII and FFXV are the most SHAMEFUL JRPGs of the 2010s.
Yeah Ys8 is pretty good.
XC1 isn’t a super close match, but the combat system scratched the same urge for me and the original artstyle seemed to carry similar elements, though not as refined. Main similarities would be the sprawling world and auto-attack heavy gameplay, but they’re both very different and interesting in their own rights. There’s a remaster coming up soon too.
thanks, looks interesting
how's the second one? The artstyle looks absolute garbage
>beginning - mid-chapter 2
8/10
>end of chapter 2
4/10
>chapter 3 - early chapter 4
6/10
>chapter 5 onwards
2/10
The thing with 9 compared to some other FFs is that you really can die in the tutorial bosses if you play like a nigger and don't know what you're doing.
But honestly it's not really that hard even for 10 year old me who didn't know how to read most English.
I hope the user playing Unlimited Saga for the first time shows up again. That game doesn't get enough love. I might even start up a new playthrough on my days off.
Is it actually good? Cold Steel honestly killed my interest in Trails. And I was there since the PSP days.
Should have played IX.
Second one has more involved combat but is generally regarded as worse (worse pacing, more waifushit, worse story, but better ending pacing and more combat systems).
XC1 remake has the new art style too, which is something to keep in mind. But you can always emulate and use a texture pack on the original to avoid it. Definitely play XC1 before XC2, if you like FFXII then XC1 would be the closest and more mature of the two.
4 is pretty decent, yes. I personally like all CS games even though they are weaker than Sky and Zero/Ao in some regards. They still have everything I liked the series for.
As for me, I was playing SC some time ago and I never got around to finishing it. I never played the Sora no Kiseki series before and I wanted to finish it before Ao no Kiseki Kai comes out next month, but I don't think I'll be able to do that. I still need to finish Alyx, and FF7R comes out next week...
I may start it once I'm done with CS4. I'm choosing between it and Vesperia.
Wondering which SMT to play after I finish up with Nocturne and my NG+ of P3P. Is Digital Devil Saga as fantastic as I think / hear it is?
Watch out if you have it on steam. Square pushed an update that deletes all the game files. They fucked up
YEP. JUST HAPPENED TO ME user. I WAS ABOUT TO START PLAYING AGAIN (got to the evil forest flower boss) AND BOOM, cant launch. THought it was the mod but no, square themselves fucked me over. I hope my save is intact i dont want to do the intro again
Sucks to be you.
Bump
Persona 3 Portable using an emulator and tried larping as a girl because never tried it before. Currently in month of June now and just farming equipment mats
What do we think of resonance of fate and natural doctrine?
>playing DDS2
>Serph got stomach ache
motherfuckerf
I love how yesterdays thread became a SaGa general kek
It's great. If you find the characters anime hair color weird don't worry because there's an explanation to that
Resonance of Fate is a great game, especially on PC with 4K textures and 60fps. About the only issue is that it is a drab game, not that it looks dab but everything is grey looking. Nothing you can't fix with reshade. If you want I can show you screenshots of how I made the game look
I don't mind the grey look. And I have it for years on playstation though I never started it.
If you have the remaster version, then it is the one to play. The extra fluidity and boost in resolution makes it good and responsive. It might be a turn-based game but the gameplay is quite frantic
Seems user got a bit too much to handle all at once yesterday and might be taking a break today.
Unsurprising given how he was a total newcomer and also chose to start with Kurt of all people, I applaud him for his determination though, most people who'd play that way would instantly drop the game when they get to the Vale of Swords, if not earlier, yet he managed to push through it relatively well.
>Portabro
Hell yeah. Kotone's storyline is pretty great. I myself am gettin' close to December - the differences in SLs and aesthetic are really neat.
>equipment mats
You mean the stones? If so, try fetchin' as much Onyx as you can. King incense cards are the shit for when you wanna powerlevel your Personas' stats.
I actually didn't pay much mind to the whole 'anime hair color' thing since I just figured it was a standard JRPG trope, but you got me interested. Thanks!
I liked this and you?
Oh I mean on the original version on playstation 3. Sometimes I feel like buying it again on steam but don't want to waste money.
I finished Langrisser 1&2 on Switch and god it felt like the most generic shit ever, and the whole style makes it look like a mobile game. In fact it looks WORSE than the actual Langrisser gacha. Good thing the game is short.
I heard that Langrisser got a spirtual successor in Growlander and some of those games got localized in English. Are those any better?
God I feel like going through Usaga myself. I still believe it has one of the best soundtrack in the genre. Comfiest game
The best FF
It’s super underrated. What playthrough are you on?
youtube.com
Those games are 30 years old and were made by a tiny company, no shit they feel generic nowadays.
>I heard that Langrisser got a spirtual successor in Growlander
Growlanser is completely different from Langrisser, the only thing they have in common is having Urushihara as lead character designer.
why not? finished it yesterday
I especially remember this comfy tune while going through the game. Such a great period of my life.
Hamauzu is such a great composer.
I’m looking for more short, top-tier JRPGs in the same vein as Chrono Trigger, TWEWY, and Phantasy Star IV to recommend to people. Can anyone help me out on this?
What's your excuse for not playing the best JRPG in the last 20 years?
I'm just glad they eventually put FF7 for modern PCs.
The original PC port of FF7 was done by Eidos. It used shitty midi and without a fanmade patch the game would crash when it tries to load a chocobo race, which is mandatory on your first visit to the Golden Saucer.
Chrono Cross??
I'm done with this SRPG, its interesting that you go through your enemies to damage them, unlike most SRPG where its move > attack. Quite hard though since just 1 enemy can destroy your team.
Also
loli pope > imouto
because imouto is a manipulative bitch.
I don’t play mobile games and your constant shilling of it comes off as creepy.
SaGa Frontier is comprised of 7 routes, each one can be cleared comfortably in 5-10 hours
Crimson Shroud on 3DS is a few hours.Parasite Eve is 15. Live a Live is 18. SaGa 1, 2, and 3 are all under 15 hours.
The average playtime for Chrono Cross is 40 hours, my man.
Thanks anons.
I played it on the PSP, wasn't bad but by god I hated how inactive party members got fuckall in terms of EXP.
Have not touched the HD version
DQ5, FF5, Golden Sun
Getting real sick of seeing you in almost every thread, man.
Grandia, Albert Odyssey.
Why is Fran's accent so sexy
Why does everyone love Balthier if he's generic as fuck
