Nick Apostolides was specifically chosen because he sounded young. They went for the exact opposite of being RE4 cool and weary to show an inexperienced, naive and endearingly optimistic Leon. I think chances of him coming back are pretty much zero except for perhaps as an update for REsistance.

If you consider the bosses Leon survives in Remake, he would fare well as far as RE4 enemies are concerned, even without all of the CQC training. He's nowhere near as cool because he's so young, but the boss fights he survives are fucking absurd. They make some RE4 bosses look extremely tame.
Taking combat skills out of the equation, RE2 Leon could work, but I prefer the older cynical Leon in that context.

Honestly it just depends on how much range the VA has, if he can play a slightly older, more mission oriented/jaded Leon I don't see why he wouldn't work.
