Redpill me on new vegas

Video games are a huge waste of your life, if you start playing this game now then potentially hundreds of hours of you life will be wasted in fantasy, make believe, pretend fairy tale worlds. Think about how you could better utilize that time to do some great self improvement and work to make your parents and country proud.

It's a great game that's been reddit cursed. But, you can't blame NV for that any more than you can blame Keanu Reeves or atheism.

Despite all that, it's one of the best games I've ever played. The writing alone makes up for most of it's short comings. the story isn't perfect and the legion's questline is unfinished, but the amount of freedom is insane. The game is at it's best if you start a new game with a playstyle in mind and going from there

The gameplay is real nice, but I would like FO4 graphics.

The engine isn't that bad.
I hardly ever have problems with it. At least, FO4 and skyrim dont crash much if ever, though NV does have some crashing from time to time.

Best 3d fallout game.
Greatest worldbuilding, factions, atmosphere, armor penetration modeling, and gunfaggery.

Personally the FO4 does not look as gritty, but it looks like how a real apocalyptic world might look, at least to my mind.

Meme game with below average gameplay and a story and characters that don't take themselves seriously. Worth playing once if you're bored, you won't miss out on anything by skipping. Solid 5/10.

Great game, not as good as some people on here claim it is, but it's pretty damn great.
Personally it's my favorite game of all time, I do a playthrough each year.

Also new vegas cares a lot more about player choice and worldbuilding.
In 3 and 4 you are pretty much forced to follow what your character wants and can't make that many choices. In 3 especially you cn only follow the brotherhood with some token "evil for the lulz" options.
New Vegas lets you craft your story and asks you "what would you do?". You get to choose between factions and what they do and learn about how they changed.
3 an 4 are more like themeparks built around easily recognizable stuff (dude supermutants! muh caps! another chapter of bos! love us already!)

Overrated as all living fuck if you ask me.

Once you experience the first few times you can influence the story with your dialog choices and skill/special checks, you've seen everything the game's got to offer. It looks like shit, it plays like shit and it flows like shit.

There's no build variation, no playstyle, no way to express yourself via the way you play, the only way your characters will differ is based on your dialog choices. Level design is fucking awful, especially interiors will give you brain cancer moving from one browngrey corridor to the next, with some scuffed lighting limited by the engine to give a little flavor to the walls. The shooting mechanics are pure fucking ass.

Every part of the game outside the DLC just reeks of cut content due to engine constraints. LE WACKY XD reddit quip humor is meh at best, only excusable because they did it before it was cool; it doesn't fit the setting but it does fit the type of game they were going with if black humor is your thing. For me it worked 'cause I like that type of thing.

Factions are done well and the karma/affiliation system is also pretty nice. The game doesn't gate content behind choices to simulate negative dialog consequence like Bioware's RPGs, and it actually has effect&cause unlike bethesda's fallouts.

After all these years it's now pretty cheap so a purchase is of good value but if I'd paid full price back then I'd be pretty pissed. Honestly the most fun part of F:NV for me was never the game itself, it was the hilarious banter I'd have with buddies when comparing our playthroughs.

i'm still unsure which one i liked the least between 3 and 4. Cause they are bad and good in different ways.
4 has the best gameplay and exploration and the brotherhood is the only thing that actually feels like a proper faction with characters, stories and motives (and they also evolved from past games).
4 tho was the most immersive for me and quests are more interesting, be it thanks to quirky characters or not being all "go here and shoot stuff". Also 3 had very good vaults to explore compared to 4.
