I can’t understand how people can just watch other people play a game online, it feels really embarrassing to think about. In person, I get it, you’re at least in the presence of the player, but I cringe at every time I hear people talking about watching an entire game play through.

When I think about it, this game actually kind of does suck. For an RPG, it has no replay value to speak of
>99% linear with no side quests
>No party organization to give certain characters priority over others
>No unique equipment builds that reward smarter thinking, not harder thinking
>No way to truly test your characters skills with the lack of a new game+ feature
Would have been nice to have, but this is give or take:
>Alternate party members
>Alternate endings
>Monster/boss arena
At the end of the day, it's still a VIDEO GAME and not an "interactive experience". You don't cut Gone Home any slack(the hipsters that love Earthbound LOVE Gone Home as well), neither should you with Earthbound.

I tried to get my gf into games starting with Pokemon Yellow, but she found it boring and never made it to the first gym.
A few years later she saw me playing BotW and started up. She's played about 20 hours, doing 2 of the Divine Beasts but mostly collecting horses. Since then she's gotten into Tetris 99, Geometry Wars, now she loves Animal Crossing

It's the artstyle, the scenery, and the androgynous player character.
As cheesy as it sounds, the "if you see it, you can climb it" gimmick resolves a lot of non-gamers' suspension of disbelief problems with games.
