DOOM THREAD

Talk all things Doom. Are the extra Sentinel batteries and suit points in Eternal being saved for more unlocks in the DLC campaigns? What will be in those campaigns, and when will they be set in the timeline?

BUMP

I burned out my nigga but it was fun.

I wanted to finish a playthrough of 64 and 2016 before diving into Eternal, but damn if there's too much shit vying for my attention the past week.

The first two slayer gates were harder than the last four due to limited weaponry. Prove me wrong

I want to beat the game on ultra nightmare. The first couple of missions are rough because your resources and weapons are limited, but I don't really care if I die at the beginning.

It's the stuff in Taras Nabad and beyond that scares me off, specially the last 2 missions. Those are completely bonkers with the demons and the fact that I can just get 1-shot by the final boss is really discouraging.

I only did one slayer gate. Once I realized alls it does is unlock the gun from Doom64 I didn't care. I just wanted to speed up the game and finish it, yet I still haven't.

I don't recall ever dying in a slayer gate but from what I do recollect, yes, the earlier ones had a harder learning curve. Wonder why? I think its because you don't have as many weapons by that point
I'm too much of a pussy to try UN. I just know that a Marauder is going to fuck me and I'll just get pissed starting over. What level has the infinite lives cheat? Because enabling that won't stop progress
You didn't want the Unmakyr? Why?

I just didn't care about it. I figured the arsenal I had was plenty and thus far it has been. I think ive used the laser sword twice since I got it.
Chain gun, plasma rifle, and auto shotgun can pretty much handle it all

Slayer Gates are easier then the main campaign in general due to arena's that allow far easier traversal and tons of fodder actually being a benefit in allowing greater resource management. Prove me wrong.

The icon of sin fight was sensory overload for me on ultra violence. Fun fight but fucking exhausting

I think the infinite lives is at one of the first levels, but you can only activate them when replaying missions so it's not going to help in a UN run.

I know how to beat the marauder quite well, but I hate when the AI acts weird, you know, when he throws an axe blade at melee range.

What are your favorite levels in Eternal? Super Gore Nest was my early pick, but Urdak might be my favorite. The final sequence when you have to align the teleporter gates was fantastic. I actually got scared when I turned to run from one Tyrant and fucking saw a second one coming right at me from behind.

“My favorite level? It’s ARC Complex.”

Does Master Level Cultist Base count?

My favorite levels are Urdak and Nekravol in the visual aspect and overall my favorite gameplay wise was ARC Complex.

I can't, you are objectively right.
The first two made me hit a plateau real hard.
The others I always won either first try or after another few attempts.
You simply lack dps, cdr and resources to properly do the first two ones, they are real fucking hard.

The unmaykr sucks but the slayer gates are well worth doing purely for fun. The one where it drops you in with two cyberdemons was a blast

ARC complex is a perfect level

I didn't find the second slayer that bad, it was just the first one that was horrendous due to being stuck with just the shotgun, heavy cannon and plasma rifle. Once you get the rocket launcher they become a lot more manageable.

Urdak was gorgeous

Sentinel Batteries are an absolute garbage addition, all the prerelease marketing said they'd be for 'unlocking more features of your ship' but everything is available from the first one you put in and from there on they're basically just half a different collectible each

i kinda miss this game, thinking about giving 64 a run through, how is it, its the only doom i haven't played.

>Hear the ammo complaints
>Go in expecting to be ass-blasted
>It's actually fine
I genuinely don't understand the complaints. There's more than enough ammo, and it's so easy to get more. Are people just bad? I don't understand.

Unlockables in general are iffy. Weapon mods are good for the most part but you have shit like the Microwave Beam which is the most useless weapon in the whole game and half of the suit upgrades (specifically map and fucking barrel upgrades) are stuff that nobody with a brain is going to bother with.

Secret upgrades is especially confounding considering they effectively are pointless since the game also offers you fast travel.

>Are people just bad?
:)

I'm genuinely wondering this myself

>I genuinely don't understand the complaints.
It's just low iq people who don't know how to micromanage and are buttmad you can't just play the whole game using SS and Railgun anymore.

It was just the first half of the game where you only have 2-3 weapons, as well as most people not being used to the infinite chainsaw when they first played it.

they're not using the chainsaw and they don't swap weapons as often as they should. Second reason is also why they're so buttblasted over marauder

The barrel upgrades are clutch

Final Sin, no contest. The boss was trash but the rest of the level was perfect.

Absolutely adored it until the final boss that killed any motivation for a second playthrough on UN

Doom Hunter was the only fun boss. Icon sucked and the other two just felt like simpler versions of 2016's simon says boss fights.

Is there any way on PS4 to make the slow-mo rune and weapon mods use separate buttons? I hate the fact that I can't use most of the weapon mods correctly while in flight because it'll activate slomo, making any charged up weapon mod useless. At the same time, since I'm playing on nightmare and console, I really like the slomo because it gives me some time to breathe and to line up a few precise shots to hit weak spots.

I absolutely can't wait until every mission in the campaign gets its own master level. Having every mission with as much demons as final sin and arc complex would be a blast.

I don't think so. I only ever used slowmo for getting sticky grenades on the arachnatron cannons or sniping the faggy yellow-headed things.

Yeah, I mean, I technically don't WANT to use slomo that often. But since weapon mods and slomo are the same button, whenever I'm in the air, I need to wait to land before I can start charging up the 3-rocket-lock-on for example. It kinda sucks.

I'm actually really miffed about this. It's the only thing that annoys me about the game, this shit is really cramping my steez during so many situations.

Honestly I just embraced speed and took all the runes to speed up everything. Was completely worth it

Yeah, I was thinking the same. Two issues, though: First, slomo in any shooter is too much fun to easily pass up on. I love slowing down time and blasting fat precise SSG shots into snakefags faces. Second, my gf watches me play and I'm pretty sure she needs the extra couple seconds of slomo to find orientation and figure out where I'm going next.

ALRIGHT FUCKERS, WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE
>Weapon
>Weapon Mod
>Demon
>Track
For me it’s:
>SSG
>Mastered Heatblast
>Marauder
>Gladiator

>SS
>Infinite Micro Missles
>Carcass
>First Doom Hunter encounter

>SSG
>micro missiles
It's not very strong, but the sound and feeling... FFFFFRRRRRRRRRPRPPRPRPRPRPPRPRPRPRPPPPP P P *pop*
>probably Doom Hunter so far, but I only just got done with Super Gore Nest
>no idea what they're called but one time I died on Exultia and I guess the song from the fight keeps playing, but a little distortion is added while it displays the game over screen. That song plus the added distortion sounded so fucking brutal through my headphones that I actually had to go take a shit because it hit that nervous brown spot in my stomach. It was so god damn fat.

To each their own. For me though the game felt it’s coolest when I was a speeding death ball that could crash into a wall and explode at any moment.

I agree, that's fucking fun, but somehow I can't really appreciate all the fast-paced shit if I can't occasionally "finish it off" or basically put an exclamation mark behind it by going slow and hitting that final fat blast in full detail.

Bring Daisy back

You can't use cheats in ultra nightmare because there's no level select, 1-ups are disabled too

They did - there's a G-Man like easter egg with her in every level.

So what's next for this game? I know they're going to release single player dlc, but has there been any word on custom maps? It's just unbelievable that a studio can understand so well what made old doom games successful but continue to overlook proper mod/custom map support. Snapmap was pretty mediocre but it was still better than nothing.

Hugo is apparently fighting for mod support but Zenimax is being Zenimax.

>ssg
>meat hook if that counts, arbalest if not
>carcass, the shit eating bastard
>the ambient track that plays in doom hunter base

>SSG
>SSG with meat hook
>pain elemental, if were talking about battle mode
>Duh. Dont know. I liked the music in previous one more.

Could be Bethesda, too, they keep slapping their own logos onto everything Id makes and pretend they made it. And their own games hinge on mod-support, they're petty enough to try and pretend they should be the only ones in Zenimax that can put out a moddable engine.

What do you mean? She appears on the screen?

Pretty much same as you but with the Gatling Turret Mod intead..that is still hilariously fun for me.

And holy fuck that Gladiator theme...since i heard in one of the trailers i was wanting the full song.Mick gordon really steped up his game here

1. Is there any source on that kind of internal struggle?
2. Of true, why in the fuck would zenimax be against any of their IPs getting mod support when they know mods have been hugely influential in driving sales of original doom games and tes.

Dude you're getting green.

Every Doom game is great except for Doom Eternal. Literal garbage.

SSG
sticky bomb
Pain elemental - these guys are a huge pain in the ass but I love how they look and despite being tough to fight they're pretty satisfying to kill
The only thing they fear is you

Yeah Eternal is gay and stupid and dumb and not as good as 2016 or 3 also did I mention its dumb?

>ballista
>precision bolt
>marauder
>slayer gate

Barrel Upgrades should be baseline, frag grenade removed and the crystal upgrades along with the HP/Armor/Ammo stuff integrated into the token system.

Add turbo, style meter, crucible as a damage-recharging berserk pack instead of Archvile and Tyrant deleter, chainsaw instead of needing ammo goes on different length cooldowns when you kill an enemy so it can be better used in emergencies, make unmaker use rocket ammo

Why is Unmaker such a shit? It spends more ammo trying to kill a heavy demon than a BFG shot that not only kills that one demon but also the entire room.
What's the fucking point?

Plasma gun
Meat hook
The dead ones
They all suck

>Weapon
SSG would be too unfair because it's too fucking good. Other than that I'd say Balista because it's like Gauss Cannon/Railgun and I loved it.
>Mod
That are blast from balista. It's ass to use but cutting entire horde of demons in half looks fucking cool.
>Demon
Marauder. The design is fucking cool. Why does he uses axe for range and shotgun for melee tho?
>Track
The Gladiator Theme

I guess it can be handy if you don't have enough ammo for a BFG shot, and you need something to die fast. But yeah, it feels pretty obsolete.

they need to add arcade mode asap

No idea. I'm just glad the Slayer Gates were a lot of fun and easy so I'm not too mad about it.
