PC gamers' Breath of the Wild. Literally just a tech demo.
>story
First 90% = 5/10
Final 10% = 10/10
>graphics
10/10
>gameplay
7/10 bland boring shooting, no melee, AI is garbage, 3 fucking guns
I love Half Life and I love Valve but this game is overrated as fuck. The best thing it does is give us a very pretty and exciting retcon to hopefully pave the way to a better, more complete game.
I don't have VR, so my GOTY is Doom Eternal for now.
Half-Life franchise is just a tech demo
>boring
>exciting
well which one is it user?
Bro you just gave the game an 8/10
>being this poor
buy a cheap one with your trump bucks and stop whining
i don't think he is a fox mate, alyx is just a shit tech demo.
to be fair I played it on a quest so not the best.
hows the experience on the quest? did you use a wired link?
yeah I used a wired link, I was under the impression I had to. The experience I think is degraded compared to some others i.e image quality and resolution.
but the mechanics are all the same.
I played on quest with wired link.
The only issue I had was the uncomfortable head strap
>hows the experience on the quest?
youtube.com
oh, no finger tracking is bad as well. It's a must have I think.
None of you know what a tech demo is.
this game is the end of VR, now everyone knows no one except a few spergs are interested in VR shit
Valve and Half Life were never good.
>this game is the end of VR
How many of these threads are we going to keep getting?
Yes yes, VR got a new HL game with the potential for more titles. We get it, you guys were constantly bullied by the others. Yeah yeah it's the future of gaming or something. Yadda yadda
This is just asking for Alyx to land on some top 10 list of overrated games sometime down the line.
Where's that chart from exactly?
I just got done with the Jeff part, I was in a sweat the entire time during the lights out portion, the level was well designed to make you have to hide in corners with him two feet away from you
no idea
vrlfg.net
"Long term VR usage"
Nice Fake chart u got there faggot, also yes the fact that the entire player base doesn't continue to play a SinglePlayer game for weeks after finishing it means it's a total failure.
and? devs will stop making game since even valve can't make a successful game, why would devs waste money on some VR shit that will undersell
The Witcher 3 is a single player game that was released 5 years ago and it has 5 times more players at the moment
If you don't think alyx was a success your delusional. Sold out VR hardware, by far the largest VR launch and sales, it's a complete win for valve.
To the second point, even if no AAA developers decide to take a stab at it, the SDK and engine that valve is releasing is going to enable tons of indie devs to start making VR games. Any way you slice it, alyx is a huge win for VR.
>it's a complete win for valve
yeah if you compare it to artifact
Yeah Ori is great, the grapple hook is so much fun when you get the upgrade that allows you to hook onto enemies
>devs will stop making game

I wonder how much Gaben paid for that score?
Probably not much considering how STARVED VR reviewers are.
>Literally double hardware sales
>Hurr it's barely better then artificat!!
Beat Saber has got HLA beat in sales alone though.
As for headsets, Index is ultimately targeting higher end consumers (i.e. disillusioned Vive users) and though has sold out, is likely not going to have the same impact as something like the Oculus Rift with its cheaper and standalone HMDs.
HL:A isn't a game.
If a VR game was going to win GOTY, it should go to something with actual gameplay.
>Boneworks
To each their own, but I can't imagine it being a good choice outside of dicking around in FPS QWOP.
10 games that are most likely all trash
dang, you'll sure have fun this year
Hell yeah, it's been fun seeing my boy Rean and the rest of Class VII, some of the old gang from Liberl, and the escalation of everything from Cold Steel 1 and 2.
Yas Forums can continue to seethe about Trails being the GOAT ;)
Some of those are Oculus exclusives, which are always fun and totes not an attempt at dividing the pc community even further.
yeah! like tetris
What is it about this game that makes Yas Forums seethe so fucking hard?
>Beat Saber has got HLA beat in sales alone though
Beat Saber had a year to reach 1 million Sales across all platforms (it did 100k in its first month), Superhot also sold like a million by now.
Half Life: Alyx is close to that number after a week, not to mention that it sold $1000 VR Headsets for Valve to the point that they sold out twice and weren't available for months (same with the Oculus ones really). Even if you want to, you can't get a good VR Headset right now if you don't want to buy from scalpers for double the price.
In a year if availability of VR HMDs gets better and with the release of the next PSVR it'll likely sell 3-4 million copies.
based.
This is why alyx will be the only AAA vr game for another 10 years.
If we want to see AAA vr you have to get Console manufacturers to focus on it as well
Wait you could fucking crush him?
HL:A is fun and nucombine are cute
Looking forward to a burgeoning mod scene
youtu.be
Yup
Bruh, what hardware you playing on? My Screens never get that high res because of Dynamic Resolution.
3600x and a 5700xt
Everything set to Ultra and with super sampling set to 150 and it still runs pretty damn smooth
i7-6700 and 1080GTX and I'm absolutely getting resolution-mogged at times. I had shit come out 800x800 at 120Hz.
Pretty hype to be back in half life, and a great retcon as mentioned.
However, if they release HL alyx 2, I wouldn't care for it.
Playing this game is just awkward.
Beat saber, superhot, pistol whip are the much more compelling VR experiences IMO
*AHEM*
That's okay, because i believe HLA were intended for VR beginner which i'm kinda disappointed about. It felt like i'm wanting more of it to be honest, because it seems like they haven't blow off all their loads yet.
>VR
>goty
haha, no. i am poor.
Everyone was saying Valve was dead and they'd never make an actual game ever again, yet they made the only actual VR game. How?
Now it's 95 actually.
because everyone was wrong
still hoping Stars of Blood sees the light of day
Yes, the game is very slow at the start.
The most memorable parts for me was probably the double electric dog fight and Jeff.
More? I dunno, it felt like there was a lot of padding, got so tired of the cycle: search for items, do some very light combat, do some braindead puzzles, repeat.
Is it lagging at all or just dropping the res down for no reason?
That is really weird, your system is definitely capable
Already played it. Loved my time with it, but I don't feel there's much replay value. Hopefully some good mods/maps will be made for it.
The sewers were the absolute worst in that regard. Nothing but headcrabs and the occasional zombie.
Boring GAMEPLAY
Exciting story retcon in the finale. It sets us up for an actual Half Life game that hopefully they can heavily build on the lessons learned in this shallow and unfun game.
Valve WAS dead, for a time at least. Did you not read the interview? They basically scrapped HL3 several times (ironically enough) before settling on VR.
And even without that, they were basically radio silent for much the previous decade.
