I love how NuDoom Eternal has successfully managed to piss off everyone, Yas Forums hated it from the get-go because it's NuDoom and most of Yas Forums is incapable of properly critiquing a game and view both NuDoom games only through the lens of the original two Doom games and 64, and thus were unable to see the merits and qualities of both games and normalfags who played NuDoom 2016 hate it because it plays differently from and is significantly more challenging and well-designed than 2016.

Some people will say I have lower standards, I say that no one ITT is able to judge a game objectively on its own and in fact are blinded by their own cynicism, which is understandable given the current state of the industry. Also there is no such thing as "oh it's a good game, it's just not a good Doom game" or anything else like that. If it's a good game, and it has the name of the series on the box, it is a good game that is part of that series.

Alright game but way too easy and short for $60. Just like in 2016 when you get a feel for the game and become a 1 man army the game just ends 1 mission later

I have no problems with the game except for purple goo bullshit and nitpick story and tone decisions.

Tone and presentation-wise 2016 was the best.

Eternal encapsulates the high octane gameplay deserving of a proper modern Doom game, but it comes with some really strange design choices that makes it feel like the developers were being lazy. (or more directionless then when they developed 2016)

i liked it from day 1, beat it with no problems (that i was aware of). not only is it an excellent upgrade from 2016, it was also probably the first time i've played a day 1 game with no bugs.

im right at the end of the game, and i'm just realizing that i've not changed my runes at all. i've got the "move fast after glory kill", "air control", and "matrix mode on right click".
air control is mandatory, matrix mode is occasionally useful for weak points, and move fast is too fun to sacrifice.

what runes did you end up running?

i did the same as you except in place of matrix mode i used the longer glory kill distance, which tbf is entirely unnecessary given how far away you can be without the rune. I just didn't see any other necessary ones.

Loved old doom and nudoom, this one is great. Biggest complaint is it takes 4 levels to get all the essential kit and after that it's just oure bliss. Beat it on nightmare, was fucking fun. I guess the marauder is kinda annoying, as soon as he turns up you habe to stop everything else and focus him. Going back through all the levels now for completion.

I tried the first level on nightmare but every fight was a fucking pain, and ended up finishing it on UV, but the game got too easy towards the end only to become a bitch in part 1 of the last boss fight. Strangely enough part 2 was much easier, the arena was better for hiding around.

The purple goo sections that do nothing to complement the fast paced movement the game tries to instill on you. I guess they thought they should spice the gameplay loop up a bit but it really came off as half done.

The water sections. Not gonna elaborate much on this, they just didn't feel like any fun, and coupled with those horrible zoom outs every time you did something didn't really help.

Some platforming sections. 2016 really didn't have this problem because the map design was very solid, even if somewhat bland. The terrain of mars felt like mars and hell felt like hell. Not saying that's not the case for Eternal, but some maps feel so disjointed in some places because of the platforming.

There are some other issues I have with the game, but these are no some major flaws that will completely ruin the game for anyone imo (apart from maybe the story). On higher difficulties the gameplay feels very restricting with the weak point system they chose to have, but I don't really think it's a flaw, it's game design and it may not appeal to everyone.

The game is good and I completed 2 runs already, one on Ultra and one on Nightmare, but these things really start to pile up when you look at them and compare the game to it's simpler predecessor. I personally would have been fine with "more of 2016", but I do understand the devs; desire to innovate.

those sections are so short in comparison to the rest of the game though. They are just there for pacing purposes so you aren't going from combat encounter to combat encounter the entire game.

You can jump over the vast majority of it. Its a level hazard. You aren't supposed to like being in it. There are 3 sections in the entire game that force you to actually walk in it for an extended period of time, and those sections all last like 30 seconds each.

nigga, only the casual fucks on Yas Forums who couldn't get past Marauder hate Eternal. I went into this game skeptical, but came out fucking loving it. It's more Quake than Doom in some ways but that's not a bad thing.

this. 2016 was labor intensive and it showed, Eternal (although fun) suffered how most sequels do in a more rushed timeframe. Both games are fun as fuck though

But that would be great. Half the people are calling for a horde mode to get just that.

I understand there's a need to pace and have some breaks and stuff, but they didn't need to be as long or as abundant. They could have cut the downtime and had a more focused, intense experience.

Yeah for pretty much 2 or 3 arenas. You're trying to pass it like some big fucking gameplay element that you will have to encounter in many missions to come, but fact is, it's mostly non existent.
