Going off looks, I would much rather have Elma. She's got a solid sci-fi design, whereas Rex and Pyra look pretty awful.
That being said, Rex+Pyra have far better moveset potential. Maybe have Pyra in the background similar to Pokemon Trainer, and the final smash summons Siren? I dunno. By comparison, I can't really think of many good moves for Elma.

I would be willing to bet that they would both get in at the same time. Malos not as a Shulk echo, but more like Lucas compared to Ness. Maybe some A moves shared, different Monado Arts, like things that effect others instead of himself, as well as other B moves that are different, like Cyclone instead of Air Slash, Striker Edge instead of Back Slash and something besides Vision.

Those being in wouldn't really have changed anything. Most of Rex's moves already resembled Shulk's because you were suppose to draw parallels between them. Sakurai already showed that he doesn't really care about characters having similar recoveries, so Anchor Shot really means nothing.

More then likely. Pyra, Mythra and Nia. Pyra gives more damage, Mythra more knockback and Nia heals you everytime you land an attack, but has much lower power, which can be good for combos, since you want to have specific percentages sometimes. Final Smash is Pneuma.

Give me Pyra as an individual fighter, with certain attacks making her transform into Mythra, and certain attacks making her transform back. Pyra and Mythra could then have slightly different damage/knockback, and Rex could show up for the Final Smash.

Far from it, they obviously care about Monolith soft and recognize their talent. Also, Rex is still one of the most requested characters even at the time of the first pass being announced and Rex getting Mii Fighter'd. If anything, it would make more sense, as Nintendo are obviously chasing who they feel is going to get them the most money for a pass two.

Pay attention to other titles which were really popular around the time before Smash came out or slightly after, those are the games which Nintendo will want to make up Pass 2.

That is the logic, yes. Most of the time, when someone uses "coomer" negatively they're referring to straight men. The poster in question is usually gay, hence their distaste for women.

Try to actually picture how they would play. Some characters do make sense as a pair, when they're tiny and identical (e.g. Ice Climbers), when they're literally attached (e.g. Duck Hunt, Banjo & Kazooie), or when one of them is a minimalistic minion-like thing (e.g. Luma, Arsen, Pikmin).

Pyra is none of those things. The closest equivalent would be Pokémon Trainer, but if you're just going to have her stand in the background and do nothing, it doesn't make sense unless you're claiming that she's the real fighter just giving orders. She's not. So they might as well make it just Rex.

People only ever say "Rex & Pyra" because they expect that Rex has to be in because of some made-up rule. He doesn't. Pyra is a more popular character, has some unique options that Rex doesn't, and would add a little more diversity to the roster than Rex. Those are all things that they look for when choosing new fighters.

XC2 sold less than ARMS actually, so Rex being requested doesn't really mean much.

I haven't played XC2 but I've seen a little gameplay. Wouldn't it work out that the character is Rex but Pyra pops in for Blade Arts which would be Rex's special moves? And then you could implement the Pyra/Mythra split by use the Blade Swap mechanic, which would change nothing about the fighting style besides the specials since they're both based on the same weapon type? The rest of the time Pyra/Mythra would just stand in the background with an annoying beam of light connected to Rex the whole time. Unless they actually take the time to animate them following directly behind him at all times, which I don't think works on some stages.

How quickly do you think they could just pop into the foreground for an attack? That would look awful. And if they just stayed in the foreground, there would be an expectation that you can hit them, since they're not ghost-looking creatures like Arsen.

XC1DE already has new content in the base game, and some of it is designed to connect the game forward to XC2. Rex or no, XC2 is not as irrelevant to the current state of the Xenoblade series as you want it to be.

If you want to consider what an irrelevant part of the series looks like, look at Xenoblade Chronicles X. They're doing a lot more with 2 than they are with X.

That doesn't matter when it comes to shilling a new game, they want to get the most out of the game, it's niche fanbase knows that it's related, but the newfags they're shilling the game to won't.

People won't play XC1 if Rex got in, they'd just play XC2,. Smashfags want to see where the shiny new character came from, and to get the most out of sales, it would need to be someone from XC1DE.
