It'll either be Helix because Sakurai thinks he's the most interesting, It'll be Springman with Springtron replacing the AT, it'll be MinMin since she won the Global Party Crash, OR It'll be a brand new character from the sequel.

In my heart I want Max, but I know this is how it'll go. Either way whatever happens will either shut down speculation or blow it wide open because of the AT and Spirits already in the game.

That's fair enough, It was obvious that the announcement wasn't the way they wanted to do it either way.

In that I don't know what the community actually think, but generally higher tier characters in fighters tend to be more popular as people flock to them.

They're saying it because Byleth exist. Since Nintendo decides in advance it means they select them for representation before Three houses even came out.

Both Byleth and Incineroar were chosen this way, just Incineroar was set aside as a slot for a gen 7 Pokemon that Sakurai later decided upon for Incineroar.

If would just be weird if it were anything but Springman or Twintelle, think about it. If anything this is just early advertising for an upcoming Arms 2. I didn't even payed attention to this game and I feel that it would be strange to add anyone but Springman. To add some other character but keep Springman out

>Spring Man. Mascot protagonist of the game and most recognizable. Already an AT, costume and spirit. Can replace AT with Springtron.

>Ribbon Girl. Secondary mascot. Already a Spirit and Mii Costume. Also could work as a Wii Fit style alt for Spring Man. She's also "hinted" by the Flipnote leaks. Gets the female rep boost

>Min Min. Won the character tournament and a favorite of the devs (game's top producer mained her in early demos/tourneys). Has unique gameplay gimmicks that could translate into smash. Already a spirit. Gets the female rep boost + diversity boost (sorta)

>Twintelle. Huge fan favorite and a huge favorite of the devs, who specifically commented on how much they (and the fans) like her. Gets around the Kirby Hat issue by not having him use extendable arms but hair instead. Cool gameplay gimmick that translates into Smash. Bayo "glitch" hints at a character who fights with large fists and or hair (she also slows down time, like Twintelle, and shares a physique). Already a spirit. Gets the female rep boost + diversity boost.

>Max Brass. "Villain" of main campaign and early DLC character. Has a gimmick that translates easily into Smash. Can be a tertiary mascot for the game easily.

>Helix. Most unique fighter from ARMS. Would absolutely sell the gimmick/mechanics of ARMS to an unfamiliar playerbase. Nothing remotely like Helix exists in Smash currently.

Anybody else doesn't have a serious shot.

Spring Man AT just needs to be replaced by Springtron either permanently or whenever he's in a match. Would be neat to see another Alfonzo situation.

Also, pretty sure you can work around Spirits. There's spirits that appear on both DLC boards and the regular board (once you get DLC) and spirits that appear in both the spirit board and WoL. Also regular spirits appear within events and event spirits later appear on the board. We also have the Cuphead Spirit changing characters from Mega Man to Mii Gunner (in Cuphead costume) if you have the DLC. They could easily make the 5 ARMS spirits already in the game part of the DLC spirit board (just because), add the rest, and whoever the fighter is would just get a "Fighter Spirit" on top of their normal one already in the game (if it exists). We have multiple spirits for characters like Bowser or Link, so why not.

If Spring Man wasn't an AT and it wasn't announced this way I'd have no question that he'd be the Arms rep, maybe with a Ribbon Girl alt. But the whole framework of this announcement is unprecedented and unlike "We're adding a character from Xenoblade 2!" where its obviously fucking Rex ARMS has an ensemble cast

This means literally fucking nothing for a new character being added as a playable character, and replacing an already existing spirit. The only argument you have is the multiple spirits of one character, but that's nullified by the fact that those spirits exist because of a franchise's multiple games.

Probably should've said, but you already know this, ARMS only has one game. So unless one of the spirits (that's not Spring Man) gets a new design because of a sequel, then this doesn't apply.
