WHY IS IT SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE
I JUST WANT TO PLAY HALF-LIFE: ALYX BEFORE EVERYTHING IS SPOILED AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
WHY IS IT SO FUCKING EXPENSIVE

Don't come here then, someone is bound to spoil it for you.
Just get rift s bro
>buying facebook botnet
imagine being so worthless and pathetic that you couldnt save up a mere 1000 over THIRTEEN years
funny how in the half of a decade the headsets have been out, zero proof of that has surfaced.
Get any other headset. No one can get an Index, they are out for months. The resolution is virtually the same. Just don't fall for the OLED meme.
There is a program inside the folder that is used to access developer tools. Paranoid schizos like you and me can disable their service through it manually. And change the resolution.
>Just don't fall for the OLED meme.
>flashlight sections in half-life alyx
>OLED: its like having your eyes closed until you shine the light
>LCD: bright screen still shining in your eyes
yeah na
Just buy something cheaper, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest, many different HMDs...
Eli isn’t dead, Gman takes away Alyx
Only Quest has the same resolution as Index, with the exception of much more expensive headsets which have a better resolution than Index.
that doesn't matter, you are giving your money to facebook
if you're american you don't have the right to complain
t. yuropoor
get a WMD headset, they work fine. if you're complaining about it being "not how you're supposed to play", remember that at launch a fuckton of people played HL2 on low graphics settings.
You’ll regret spending the money almost immediately
???
The dark sections in alyx were pitch fucking black on my index. I could not see my hands infront of me.
they get around the lcd problem by turning down the brightness of the panels as you enter dark sections and it works flawlessly
I already finished but why do you do this? Are you 12?
>DONT CARE IF GRUG WRONG, PEBBLES STILL GO TO BIG MAN IN LARGE CAVE GRR
Never played with a modern LCD, have you? I have, and the flashlight sections were very dark, I never saw any light bleeding through to take me out of it or noticed the backlight. They went away from OLED for a good reason.
The headset itself isn't that big of a gain compared to others honestly. What really makes the Index great are the knuckles and you can get them to work with other headsets like the Vive too. There's even a workaround for the Rift I think, not sure if it's possible with the S too though.
Microsoft. Intel. AMD. All virtually the same. I'd agree with you if there was an Apple product and you bought theirs, but guess what - Apple would likely want your Face ID for "security".
I just got an Odyssey+ off ebay. The handtracking isn't great, but it was still an amazing experience.
you can lie all you want that is objectively not how LCD works.
sucks to be (you)
The Index brightness can be changed on the fly via Source 2. Higher brightness means that the human eye pupil contracts. Thus the bright scene looks good but the dark scenes look dark. Not as perfect as OLED black levels but perfectly adequate when given the advantages.
user... lcd displays can easily get around the darkness problem by just turning down the brightness in dark areas just like they have done with HL:A but oled displays cannot reach big boi 120/144hz.
lcd's are objectively better, they just require developers to not half ass their game
just waiting on those fedbux and Im buying me some VR round 2.
imagine being this much of a nigger
OLEDfags BTFO.
It’s to gatekeep the scrubs and zoomies from the hobby
ignore tripfags do not reply to tripfaggots
you do know you can play it on Oculus rift s which is half the price, right?
>check amazon prices
>RIFT S(Used)
>797€
J U S T
The Knuckles controllers are the best input method it looks like. Almost more tempting to get them than the headset.
What other headset besides the Index do they work with?
i asked in another thread, they said that you need the base stations for it to work with oculus quest/rift S
based and filter-comfied.
and while we're in the subject of THAT tripfag
>I'll crush you like a paper cup! Eughhh hurgh
>have a vive
>want to upgrade for alyx
>can't justify price of index for often I'll use it
>don't want rift s or quest, death before sub 90hz vr
Fuck it
This guy literally plays it on a potato integrated graphics pc. If you spend even a little money (obviously need higher specs than this guys toaster pc) on a gaming rig, buy a windows mixed reality headset you can definitely play. Consolefags are so easy to spot because instead of doing research or tinkering with tech, they just bitch and moan until their parents buy them the next system ( which becomes their new best and only worthwhile thing for the next few years)
>tripfag doesnt even have a cool tripcode
gone are the glory days
you have a handful of options if not willing to shill $1k
Low Range: Samsung Odyssey+ WMR (~$300) Great budget option, decent tracking with no need for external sensors.
Mid-Range: Oculus Rift S (~$400 but it's Facebook) Solid all-around HMD with no need for external trackers.
Original HTC Vive (Discontinued, but $350 - $450 Pre-Owned) Has great tracking with external base-stations, but a medicore display and controllers. Has the advantage that you can replace the controllers with the Index ones to get that sweet succulent finger tracking without having to drop a grand for the whole Index set.
High End: Valve Index ($1000)
Costs an arm and a leg, but it will be the best you can afford undoubtedly.
All-in-all, don't buy VR just for 1 game, but if you're interested in VR as a medium with a lineup of games you're interested in, then you can't beat the Index.
you pay for all RMA replacements you'll need. And Gabe's snack bar.
just replace the shitty wands with the index controllers, the display is servicable.

BRAVO VALVE
It's the hottest new Reddit meme to pretend LCD issues don't apply to Index.
They pretended there were no SDE on Vive/CV1.
When the next big things come around you'll start hearing about how much LCDs sucked on Index. Just consoomer things.
>Rejects China
>Admits admins are commie shills and vows to purge them
>Took control of site from 1%er dudebros who just wanted it to get laid
>So much autism he had to take coaching to fake a normie persona
>Publicly denounces Jewish ancestry
Why do we hate him again?
obviously OLED is superior, but the fact that SteamVR games can now manually adjust the brightness of the display to compensate for darkness helps a lot.
LCDfags haven't disproven anything. Objectively, LCDs have a glow when the display is on even when its black.
In no reality are dark environments better on LCD than OLED.
Proof? Televisions.
That's true, though I do wish there was a way to turn on the flashlight when you desire because a couple of sections were a bit too dark and I had the typical grey fog in front of my face like for the majority of Boreworks.
It's just gonna get worse as the trumpbuxs start flowing in
Source?
No, Source 2.
I'm trying to find the exact source currently, but to correct myself: it was a Source 2 datamined change that detailed how developers could raise or lower the brightness of the Index's display to better deal with darker areas.
i guess you'll just have to take my word on it for now user
na
honest question, is the new half life good?
well.....
FACT: The VR industry spends $300k/day on internet shills
>"gravity gloves" so people don't actually have to move over to every object they want to handle.... the entire appeal of hand controllers
trash
literally just use the E key
Why MUST you have an Index? That's shit for rich people. There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting a used Oculus.
