The main reason I stick to PC is because I want to play smooth running fun games. Not 30 FPS "experiences".

There's not a single game that runs worse on my now old HD7950 than on PS4.

Or how about when you have to wait for remakes of games to play them with your hardware while we can turn on compatibility for old versions of windows, or in even better cases download a resolution patch and improved textures in form of a mod.

PC generally provides more freedom to the user to do what they'd like.
PC will always have a larger library of games than any console.

A PC can be used for things besides gaming.
The requirement to purchase an entirely new PC to play new games is far more infrequent than the requirement to purchase a new console.

It's one thing to simply say you prefer console gaming to PC gaming, but to say you don't understand why someone would want a PC is like saying you don't understand why someone would want to buy a car.

How is this worse than paying basically the same price for a device that only is capable to playing snake? It's not even really more cost-effective thanks to things like paid online and the mid-gen refreshes.

Consoles don't offer the paper spec at a fair price, and even if they did it wouldn't be best in the market.

Console plebs always cope like this whenever a new console is released, they don't even know console manufacturers make exclusive deals with hardware companies so idiots like that would actually get a good deal. Usually within 6 months of the console release, PC is back on top WRT specs. WRT games, gameplay, modding, custom maps, and dedicated servers: PC gaming is always on-top.

If all you care about is how shiny some GWAFFIX are, go back to consoles and stop LARPing as a PC gamer because you only buy shitty console ports on PC then the publishers realize that's what they can get away with instead of making proper PC games. Also, Carmack is right, as he always is. But he was talking about that mostly coming from his experience of working with older hardware. Games aren't as optimized as they used to be and the difference between PC and consoles isn't quite there anymore. Most of the low-level magic is long gone. Consoles don't even have "a single spec" anymore.
That being said, if PS5 is really $399 and the performance is actually good, and there is something interesting on it I would like to play on the release that isn't going to be released on PC in a year or two - I might just grab it as the price is virtually nothing. I'm still going to prioritize my PC, though.

pc will always be the gaming powerhouse for people who have loads of money to splash on a high end setup but for anyone else a console is just better. this coming gen is looking like the best value in gaming in decades with SSD technology, ray tracing tech, powerful GPU and CPU from the off (on the xbox anyway), machine learning support, mesh shaders, variable rate shading, full 3d audio etc. its looking like insane value. then you also have console exclusive features like automatic downloads and updates in standby and quick resume multiple games where you left it (on the xbox, no word on ps5).
